can fuck right off. Why is it when overpopulation is talked about the implication is always that there's too many black or brown people? Not to mention the hypocrisy of him having 3 kids himself. It makes me sick.

Nope - says me and several other people on this thread, because you made a stupid and ignorant remark, that no one with an even basic understanding of how resources are used would have made

You seem very invested in people agreeing with you regarding my original post.

Personally I prefer to have the courage of my own convictions and not have any need whatsoever for people to agree with me. You should try it sometime.

Going forward I’ve no intention of replying to any more of your posts. I just can’t be bothered with you.

@BringBackThinEyebrows

Prince Harry has also spoken about the impact of human population on wildlife in Africa:

"Human populations in Southern Africa have increased annually by an average of 1.16% from 1960 to today, from 73milion to 320million.

There is no question at all that Africa’s wildlife will be increasingly susceptible to growing human populations and their requirements for land.

Elephants simply can't roam freely like they used to, without coming into conflict with communities, or being threatened by poaching and persecution. To allow the coexistence of people and animals, fences are increasingly having to be used to separate the two, and try to keep the peace."

Harry was being stupid & simplistic with his views.I refuse to believe that Africa with her problems would ever threaten the earth ( are there nuclear weapons in Africa for example?, I wonder) I like him but nah. Where I am from is a country with the largest elephant population on earth. Local people have been living alongside wildlife forever and they have always taken care of their environment. Just this year there have been fatalities, elephants killing children & adults when they roamed in villages. Still the people respect & love.. love the wildlife. I have never been to a zoo in my life, but I have done wild camping and seen hyenas, been to safaris & seen elephants ( the elephant highway) & seen wildlife without even paying a dime). A few years ago Kenyan Masai were complaining about British land grabbers who fenced off native land & kept natives out in the guise of conservation. I’m glad some Africans are waking up & realizing that they are not the problem , the problem is Western & Asian consumption. Prince Williams’s mentioned African population. Explosin before, he feels very strongly that this issue is a danger to wildlife & he is entitled to his opinions. However I’m not surprised that some African people don’t really care about what he says , they live in the continent, they know their land, love their land and don’t need a British Prince’s opinions. Tusk seems like a good charity on the surface and congratulations to the winners of these awards. I would like to hear Prince William’s opinions on how Western countries’s consumption, trophy hunting of lions, zebras plus their emissions etc etc affect Africa . Fair is fair.
ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 26/11/2021 20:19

You're right, drivel was a bad choice of word by me, ShinyHappyPoster.

PW's a hypocrite and should keep his mouth shut, on basically everything except helicopter search&rescue.

I want to hear the message from ecologists and people living in - not flying to - the affected area.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 26/11/2021 20:24

I personally don't understand this Prince William vs. Prince Harry nonsense, which admittedly hasn't come up on this thread but is all over this board. They're cut from the same cloth.

Some of the comments on this thread:
-A dick
-Embarrassing
-Pompous, sanctimonious bloke
-Tone deaf
-Cheeky cunt
-Ignorant nobber
-Hypocritical, dull, pompous prick
-Ignorant, stupid and hypocritical
-Thick, blinkered, racist, ignorant, greedy and hypocritical, like his fans

If you don't have the same energy for Prince Harry in response to his quote, your issue is not with what Prince William said.

@Zuluqueen
Thank you for talking sense. I'm an animal lover and your experiences of seeing wildlife sound amazing!

Prince William has been criticised for justifying trophy hunting previously. Prince Harry was famously photographed with one of his 'trophy kills', a water buffalo, in Argentina.

I do have the same energy but would just get censored again, so here's just a quick STFU to the RF en masse, bye.

Tone deaf. My god

debbrianna · 26/11/2021 21:16

Why didn't he act now by having less children? His "act now" is not a new idea for him. It's you who has to act now,not him.

Queenoftheashes · 26/11/2021 23:52

I don’t know what my cheeky cunt comment has to do with Prince Harry. Telling people to have fewer children while having three yourself and consuming resources at an aristocratic rate merits the comment. Harry is a bit of an embarrassment at this point but neither are as bad as Uncle Andrew.

Queenoftheashes · 26/11/2021 23:53

Make that “neither is”

WaterAndRichTea · 26/11/2021 23:58

Oh get a grip of yourselves

Why take a comment and take it as racist when it was racist at all !!!!!!

Nothing can be said any more without a snowflake complaining !!!

WaterAndRichTea · 27/11/2021 00:01
  • WASNT RACIST AT ALL
madisonbridges · 27/11/2021 00:48

@debbrianna

I think the difference between Harry and William regardibg this subject, one didn't come across like they are attacking on Africans.
Quote me the piece that shows he was attacking Africans.

ClaudiaJ1 · 27/11/2021 05:21

@Zuluqueen So elephants (one of the most beautiful creatures on earth and are losing their habitat because of humans and deforestation) are trampling children and eating crops? Are people there unable to utilise fences, that every other nation has to keep animals away from humans?

mellongoose · 27/11/2021 06:32

He is right though. There are predictions that population growth will fall in Europe, steady in Asia and the most populous area will be Africa. Human conflict with wildlife areas will get worse.

I'm not sure why people find this offensive. It's true. As a conservationist I would hope the whole world would take notice and that yet another catastrophe can be averted.

They dismantled in 1990 - I assume Nelson Mandela had some influence on that. See screen shot.

Zuluqueen · 27/11/2021 09:23

@ClaudiaJ1 I’m sure people there know what fences are and do use them where possible. The elephants roam free and and everyone respect their existence that is why their population has increased so much over the years.

That was during the APATHEID regime. Developed by white people, most likely to kill Africans.

You are the one who seems to be shoehorning Harry. If you look at this Royals thread, you will also know that Harry is called all sorts of names over around 95% of these threads , some are numbered for your convenience. William at the same time, can do now wrong on Mumsnet.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/11/2021 10:24

Unless you have one or less children yourself then please shut up commenting on overpopulation IMO.

rubicscubicle · 27/11/2021 10:46

What William was saying is utter bollocks.

It is an eco-facist argument based on Eugenics, which is always inevitably discriminating against people of colour. It is a concept based on racism.
www.euronews.com/green/2021/03/21/the-dangers-of-eco-fascism-and-why-it-s-a-veneer-for-racist-beliefs

Overconsumption is the problem, and Africans take the least resources. As things stand currently :
-Africa has a far lower population density than Asia or Europe.
-The current population density of Africa is just 45 people per km2.
-In comparison the UK’s population density is 281 people per km2.

Also, Kenya is 3 times bigger than the UK and has 50M population compared to our 70M.

Here is an ecologist explaining :

Can't quite believe people asking questions like whether Africans care about wildlife and if they know what fences are. Shock

Prince William has three children and an enormous carbon footprint. I don't think this means he can't do good things for the environment (see Earthshot) but clearly anyone in his position needs to be very careful what they say and how they say it. Especially given the history of the RF and as this isn't the first time he's been seen to lecture Africa about their population. It's just very bad optics as the future monarch of a former coloniser.

adrianmolesmole · 27/11/2021 12:40

@Whingasaurus

There's an anti William campaign running at the moment but this comment isn't wrong or unpleasant in fact it's an opinion held by many. 10/10 for spite 0/10 for integrity OP try again.
Where do you get 'spite' from this? This is not a spiteful thread. It's a very well meaning thread actually, legitimately criticising the hypocrisy of a member of the RF who thinks he can pontificate and criticise others without looking at the mess of his own backyard. The royals are not beyond criticism, or are they 'god-like' to you?

This is not comparable to the millions and millions... and millions... of meghan threads, most of which ARE spiteful and just plain bitchy for the sake of it.

CheeseMuffin · 27/11/2021 12:46

Didn’t Harry get lambasted for jokingly saying he was having 2 kids maximum? He was only speaking for himself but the way MN and the media reacted, you’d think he was issuing a diktat for a one child policy! But now the same posters are defending William, who actually has said people shouldn’t be having so many kids?
