Did anyone watch this last night? About William and Harry and their different approaches to the press. Last night was part 1 of 2.

Lack of shame is definitely a Johnson family trait!

Roussette · 01/12/2021 11:24

Of course the palace would say that hmm , or would you rather they say , no thanks we are good as we are

No? Where have I intimated that?

I just find it odd where posters are ...yes, but.... POC don't want low wages and long hours and are insinuating that it's not a problem that their ethnic minority staff numbers are low, when the Palace itself says it is a problem and they aim to do better.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/12/2021 12:19

they live in California Confused

No need for the "Confused" Queen - California's a big place and varies massively according to where you go

Live in Oxnard or Florence and you'll have a very different experience to that in the Santa Barbara area, which stinks of money and where many of the Vietnamese and Hispanics are deemed fit only for cleaning, gardening and so on

queenofarles · 01/12/2021 12:46

Puzzledandpissedoff
I’m well aware of the rich and not so rich areas in California , thanks.
Unless PP was living under a rock for the past couple of years , everyone knows H&M live in one of the most affluent areas in California.

And Rousette
Some would defend certain people no matter what ,
and criticise others no matter what.

It’s only one narrative for you.

TheElvishQueen · 01/12/2021 12:47

What does it tell us about their values that they choose to live in such a place?

rubicscubicle · 01/12/2021 12:54

@TheElvishQueen

What does it tell us about their values that they choose to live in such a place?
What kind of a place? You want them to live in a in a shelter made of shrubs in the middle of the jungle?
PreparationPreparationPrep · 01/12/2021 13:05

@TheElvishQueen

What does it tell us about their values that they choose to live in such a place?
I don't know - can you tell us what it says about their values?
Roussette · 01/12/2021 13:08

It’s only one narrative for you

I have not idea where that's come from queen. Confused
I was just trying to describe a point. Just like you do. So I suppose it's only one narrative for you too.

Roussette · 01/12/2021 13:09

What's wrong with 'such a place' ?

Where would you be satisfied with them living?

These threads are beyond ridiculous at times

PreparationPreparationPrep · 01/12/2021 13:12

@queenofarles

I'm not sure why posters are saying it's not a problem, or so what... when the Palace itself is saying it's a problem and 'we must do better Of course the palace would say that Hmm , or would you rather they say , no thanks we are good as we are, Plus , I’m certain south Asian won’t be thrilled to work within an establishment where a previous member insulted them by calling them Derogatory words. Just like Black people now are feeling quite resentful towards them for questioning the skin colour of their grandchild.
Don't you think it's more like the positions that pay decent salary are likely to be advertised in certain places or certain people are alerted through word of Mouth and if you don't move in particular circles you wouldn't hear. If you are very lucky to get through to an application maybe your foreign sounding name means your cv is put to one side - failing that if you do get through the interview you may have to code switch which isn't enough if you have a certain look / accent / dress style / that doesn't blend in with that is the norm. Finally yes it will be interesting to see W&K information next year along with when the staff started working for them.
AnnunciataZ · 01/12/2021 13:38

@TheElvishQueen

What does this even mean? Anyone who lives in an affluent area has poor moral values? That discounts half of Mumsnet then!
julieca · 01/12/2021 13:44

Do the aristocracy look down on Califoria then?

queenofarles · 01/12/2021 13:45

Definitely.

I’m aware that many think it’s not enough but really,

queenofarles · 01/12/2021 13:49

Posted too soon!
and I’ve now forgot what I’m about to say 😂.

Maireas · 01/12/2021 16:18
@Maireas no not most places at all. Some places did yes.
Well, it was different in the 1960s, and I'm sure that you wouldn't claim that most black people had equality of opportunity in the workplace. That the RF didn't doesn't make them a worse employer at the time, although any lack of progress subsequently is absolutely problematic.

TheElvishQueen · 01/12/2021 16:33

@julieca

Do the aristocracy look down on Califoria then?
My point was that they’ve chosen a place which is populated by high profile wealthy celebrities. A place where POC are mainly employed as servants. Somewhere they need expensive security. So this is the profile they wish to adopt. They could have lived in a place with a more mixed demographic. After all, even PC and Princess Anne live in less showy houses in areas with a more mixed demographic.
Roussette · 01/12/2021 16:39

Ummm... no, I don't think so. PC and PA live in very rich areas, believe me.

Gatcombe Park is on a 730acre estate, very salubrious, Highgrove in Tetbury maybe not enormous house but it is on a 350 acre estate in one of the poshest areas in gloucestershire! Where they both are does not have a mixed demographic in the slightest.

julieca · 01/12/2021 16:40

Honestly I dont care. They want to mix with other celebrities. Their choice as they are paying for their own lifestyle. As long as they can earn the money, they can do what they want.
It reminds me when Sarah Ferguson was heavily criticised for working with weightwatchers, and the RF were reported to be really unhappy. But she had to earn her own money, so up to her as far as I was concerned.

TheElvishQueen · 01/12/2021 17:26

@Roussette

I know both areas pretty well. They aren’t on the same level as where Ha and M live. It’s entirely up to them of course , but it speaks volumes about how they want to be seen.
rubicscubicle · 01/12/2021 17:48

This is beyond ridiculous.

Cali may be expensive, with big houses, but Mayfair and Kensington probably beat them by a mile for square footage. Here for the same price as where H&M live, is a 4 bedroom APARTMENT.

So, tell us where do you want them to live? Just interested to know.

TheElvishQueen · 01/12/2021 17:59

I don't care where they live! i'm just saying that they chose an area with Adele and Oprah as neighbours. They want to be seen as being on a par with celebrities like that.

Roussette · 01/12/2021 18:17

Elvish

With all due respect, I doubt you know them as well as me. To say they have a 'mixed demographic' is really misleading.

The average house price for instance for houses where PC lives is j half a million. That is average.

Of course it's not wall to wall millionaires but really it's a very upmarket area for both Royals where they live.

I am bemused you can criticise where they live! Surely... as they pay for it... it's up to them? I know you are talking about the optics... but still....

TheElvishQueen · 01/12/2021 18:27

Yes, I said it was up to them!! I mean it's a more normal area , Gloucestershire. Not full of rich celebrities with servants and lots of security. Obviously Tetbury is quite an upmarket place, but not on the same scale.

debbrianna · 01/12/2021 18:32

This is ridiculous. Califonia might have a lot touch celebrities in areas hogged together, at list they don't own all the land next to thier main house. A lot of land in the UK still belongs to the aristocrats including villages.

rubicscubicle · 01/12/2021 18:36

If you ask where Prince Charles or other royals live. You will be met with where? London? Scotland? Gloucester etc.

H&M have one place, which is much cheaper and smaller than any of the places the other royals live, yet you have to begrudge them of this.

Yet, you can't even name this ideal place you think they should live.

Absolutely nothing wrong with where they live. What are they supposed to do, run around ducking places because there are celebrities?

How many celebrities and high flyers live in Mayfair, Kensington and Westminster where the other royals, with multiple palaces. Plenty is what I'll tell you, infact those areas are their playground.
