Did anyone watch this last night? About William and Harry and their different approaches to the press. Last night was part 1 of 2.

I mean it's a more normal area , Gloucestershire. Not full of rich celebrities with servants and lots of security. Obviously Tetbury is quite an upmarket place, but not on the same scale

Where on earth is there in the UK that is similar to Montecito? Nowhere. Tetbury.. quite upmarket? Errmmmmm yes very. And very much so where Anne lives. And on these estates they have over 1,000 acres of land between them.
By the way there are quite a few celebs who are in the proximity of both Royals in Gloucestershire. . They just don't broadcast it.

Roussette · 01/12/2021 18:51

We are a tiny island, California is 1.7 times bigger than the whole of the UK!
We don't have a Montecito or anything like it... maybe Sandbanks in Dorset but that's a bit of a stretch!

derxa · 01/12/2021 19:04

I love the sound of Princess Anne's set up. She loves to keep the family close. Even her ex husband lived there for a while with his second wife. She has 700 acres which she farms as well as the stables. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than live in California. Harry and Meghan are welcome to it.

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 01/12/2021 19:20

And I expect they'd rather stick pins in their eyes than live on a farm! But as you say, different strokes for different folks.

derxa · 01/12/2021 19:35

@BeckyWithTheAverageHair

Exactly. Although Harry grew up knowing that way of life. He's literally a Hooray Henry or the male equivalent of a Sloane. As long as they're happy where they live who cares though.
debbrianna · 01/12/2021 19:48

Imagine people comparing country estates with acres and acres of loads to where H/M are living as OTT. This thread is something else.

Aspiringmatriarch · 01/12/2021 21:02

I think it's old money vs new money snobbery.

Aspiringmatriarch · 01/12/2021 21:03

Although Harry himself is old money, of course.

derxa · 01/12/2021 22:25

@Aspiringmatriarch

Although Harry himself is old money, of course.
Of course he is. Let's not pretend otherwise. Also both Harry and Meghan went to private school. Birds of a feather flock together.
OverByYer · 01/12/2021 22:53

🤣

DoreenWinkings · 01/12/2021 23:07

@TheElvishQueen

Yes, I said it was up to them!! I mean it's a more normal area , Gloucestershire. Not full of rich celebrities with servants and lots of security. Obviously Tetbury is quite an upmarket place, but not on the same scale.
I don't know. There's enough celebrities - I don't know how many servants they have granted, but I've been stood behind two different film stars in the shops in Nailsworth in the last two weeks alone 🤣 Security is a different kettle of fish though, you see PA out alone - unless a horse counts - fairly regularly... though I suspect she just doesn't give a fuck.
Roussette · 02/12/2021 07:08

This thread has taken a bizarre turn!

YourenutsmiLord · 02/12/2021 07:28

Although Harry himself is old money, of course.

No, he's not. Incomers from Germany.

For example Princess Diana's family the Spencer's were old money - Earl Spencer is a title in the Peerage of Great Britain that was created on 1 November 1765, along with the title Viscount Althorp, of Althorp in the County of Northampton, for John Spencer, 1st Viscount Spencer.[1][2] He was a member of the prominent Spencer family and a great-grandson of the 1st Duke of Marlborough. Previously, he had been created Viscount Spencer, of Althorp in the County of Northampton, and Baron Spencer of Althorp, of Althorp in the County of Northampton, on 3 April 1761

Aspiringmatriarch · 02/12/2021 07:35

Yes, I thought someone would say that 🤣. Harry is descended from the Spencers though, isn't he.

My point anyway was the California vs landed estate thing is new money vs old money.

Roussette · 02/12/2021 07:39

Yes, I agree. Celebs vs landed gentry. Definitely snobbery, ideas above their station etc !

Maireas · 02/12/2021 07:44

Incomers from Germany Grin
How long ago does your family need to have settled in the UK until you're no longer labelled an "incomer"?

AnnunciataZ · 02/12/2021 09:05

307 years and counting @Maireas...

Anyway most of the royal families of Europe are "incomers from Germany" - I don't think the Dutch or Scandi monarchs have any native blood!

Roussette · 02/12/2021 10:48

And in a further twist to the story of the Princes and the Press, ANL has lost its appeal in the lawsuit. Meghan has won both the copyright and the privacy claims.
Here is her statement. Perhaps the DF and MoS need to back off now or will they renew their attacks. I hope not.

In country talk, you are a 'blow in' untill everyone that remembers you moving there is dead! Then you are not a newcomer any more. Harsh!

HeadNorth · 02/12/2021 11:05

Clever final line in Meghan's statement - 'a daily fail that divides us' - well played Grin

StormzyinaTCup · 02/12/2021 11:06

I like the way she got ‘daily fail’ in there Smile (deliberately or not).

Couldn’t see any mention of it yet in the paper itself!!

Toomanyscentedcandles · 02/12/2021 11:06

Sounds like she got the phrase from Mumsnet!

rubicscubicle · 02/12/2021 11:06

Ooohhh, the burn of that last paragraph.

Naming the owner of the DM, that statement almost reads like 'he broke the law'.

Then the 'daily fail'.

Hahaha]. Ouch !

All coincidence ofcourse

rubicscubicle · 02/12/2021 11:07

cross post

Toomanyscentedcandles · 02/12/2021 11:10

I think the inference is that he’s a member if the aristocracy so automatically he’s a ‘Bad Un’. Member of the Establishment and all that.
