Did anyone watch this last night? About William and Harry and their different approaches to the press. Last night was part 1 of 2.

Yes I thought Scobie was very measured.
Harry really is an angry man though.

TheElvishQueen · 29/11/2021 22:41

He needs a new therapist methinks. The one he has isn’t helping him.

AnnunciataZ · 29/11/2021 22:44

@Noeuf She wore a variation of a salwar khameez for pretty much every event she attended! She does tend to do that though - if it's Ireland she wears green, if it's Scotland it has to be tartan etc. Maybe it's an unofficial royal rule!

I love Kate. She's a trouper

julieca · 29/11/2021 22:56

The Tatler journalist is right, she is ultra bland.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 29/11/2021 22:57

God the 'oh it wouldn't have been an issue if I'd said it allllll that time ago' about the article dripping in racism is unreal. So disingenuous and annoying it wasn't challenged more.

derxa · 29/11/2021 23:03

I've followed these threads for years. I don't like Meghan.

Viviennemary · 29/11/2021 23:03

It was a bit more interesting than last weeks offering. I can see if they were being briefed against by either members of the roysl family of courtiers why they wanted to distance themselves. But they are in a worse quagmire now having to appear on talk shows and dish it all up again. What's the point.

Exactly. You would think they would be desperate to leave it all behind them and start afresh. Not write awful books about it and whine on national TV. For Gods sake go off and be happy and live your lives! They aRe so fortunate. They have a lovely home and two beautiful children. They are very rich. Incredibly lucky and they need to acknowledge that instead of looking for grievances and hurting Harry’s family. Forgive and forget and move on. The rest of the family have to keep on ‘working’ until they drop. H and M can sit in the Californian sun playing with their chickens.
PicsInRed · 29/11/2021 23:23

Not unless they have security and that costs a fortune.

debbrianna · 29/11/2021 23:25

I love reading these threads most of the time in silence. However, there is some sort of control and narrative that gets driven every now and then and I can't put my finger on.

julieca · 29/11/2021 23:26

Harry and Meghan need money. How else can they earn that kind of money?

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/11/2021 23:42

@julieca

And I really think they will soon be in diminishing returns. Meghan could probably return to acting but I'm not really sure what Harry's skills are outside fronting charities or the army? Being a figurehead is helpful when you have something to sell but the longer they are outside the fold the less appeal they will have.
julieca · 29/11/2021 23:54

If they had an outside income, they would be fine being free figureheads for charities and I am sure would be welcomed. But it doesn't pay their substantial bills.
They have high-security costs which are needed, and lets be honest, Harry is not going to slum it in a tiny house and with no money.

Aspiringmatriarch · 30/11/2021 00:18

And I really think they will soon be in diminishing returns.

This is often said on these threads. Why not just wait and see? I don't think they're a one-trick pony. With the exception of the Oprah interview, nothing they've done has really been talking about the Royal Family.

I agree with a PP though, Harry is an angry man. Understandably though in many ways - not just because of Diana but looking at last week's episode you can see how the press (the less salubrious elements anyway) have been awful in the way they've treated people close to him. I hope he's happier now being away from all that. I know they still have a media profile but now they can do their own thing and hopefully enjoy life peacefully. It seems like that's what he needs.

I thought William came across reasonably well in this episode but there's still a pretty big question mark about all the leaks and negative briefing.

I really dislike Camilla Tominey. So entitled about the birth of Archie - she seemed like she had an axe to grind there.

julieca · 30/11/2021 00:24

It doesn't matter whether it is diminishing returns or not. They make their own money, so how ever much or however little they make is their business.

Viviennemary · 30/11/2021 01:37

I think it does matter. If they don't make enough money in the future no prize for guessing who they would turn to for a bail out. Their living expenses must be astronomical.

TheElvishQueen · 30/11/2021 02:27

I don’t really understand the need for all this security. Zara , Beatrice and Eugenie don’t need it so why do they? If they let their profile fizzle away quietly, I’m sure no one would care or be interested. They could both retrain and start new careers .
Noeuf · 30/11/2021 03:13

@AnnunciataZ oh how funny. I hadn’t really registered that. I just thought it was so silly. I shall take a closer interest in it for my own amusement.

StartupRepair · 30/11/2021 03:25

I think the need for security has come from some race based and unhinged specific threats.

I've heard she speaks highly of you too 🙄

So have I.
And I do.
Sometimes.

Not write awful books about it and whine on national TV

'Whine' is a favourite word used on here by those who can't stand them having a voice. When have they written an 'awful book' late or 'whined' on TV?

This programme is showing historic events, it's nothing to do with them.

Roussette · 30/11/2021 07:01

*lately

Roussette · 30/11/2021 07:10

I loved how Jenny Afia said they never intended to “become Trappist monks and take a vow of silence” when they stepped back from their public roles. She said they never said they wanted privacy and it was a tabloid construct.

Absolutely.

Rather, she argued, they had simply taken steps to challenge “blatant violations” because it was in line with their values.

It's so much what we've said on here when posters harp on about them wanting to be private, they should shut up, why do they keep speaking. It's exactly what we have said again and again and it never gets noted.

“That's not how privacy works. Privacy is about the right to own and control what personal information you choose to share with somebody.”

AnnunciataZ · 30/11/2021 07:14

Harry and Meghan shot themselves in the foot at times but I don't think she did anything to deserve the level of vitriol directed at her by the press. And I'm referring to when she was a 'working royal' - that graph the Guardian had done to show that the coverage she received was mainly negative compared to Kate, and the Buzzfeed article showing how a negative spin was put on whatever she did were very telling.

Hearing first-hand about the tactics the press use was the most interesting part of the programme for me. I mean, I was aware of them before but this time the information was coming straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak!
