Royal party on 19th October

There's to be a party on 19th October to thank celebs who donated to the Diana statue. Elton John will be there. It was reported a few days ago H&M would probably/might come. Now apparently they're not coming. Which is better because all the focus would be on them and who snubbed who. But as its only going be an hour long and probably not televised what woul be the point of coming all that way. I also read the other day that they may lead their own jubilee celebrations next year in the USA. Shock

I read that they were hoping to fit in a christening if they come over for the party.

Gilmorehill · 11/10/2021 20:38

I know this is just speculation, but H not coming suggests relations are still frosty. I wonder if they will ever improve.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 11/10/2021 21:15

I don't think enough time has gone by to see things thaw out yet. In a couple of years, maybe.

There's no reason to have a UK-based christening. Just won't happen IMO. And I don't see them coming to the party unless Harry flew in solo again. They don't seem to want to bring the kids to the UK.

StCharlotte · 11/10/2021 21:17

I wouldn't be thanking anyone for that hideous statue.

Yeah I don't think even H and M are stupid enough to celebrate HM's jubilee in a country that annually celebrates its independence from The Crown.

Maybe the sculptor is in The Tower not invited?

Unless you want the family christening gown, to be christened into the Church of England in Windsor Chapel etc.

Gilmorehill · 11/10/2021 21:51

It wouldn’t be ridiculous to think M doesn’t want to return to the U.K. That’s fine but she really should stop using her title if she feels like that but she won’t —as that’s what makes people pay attention to her —

Viviennemary · 11/10/2021 22:08

Be interesting to see if they make an appearance at Christmas. The christening at Windsor seems to be kicked into the long grass. Unless they've had it already in private in their backyard like they did for their wedding.

The family christening gown probably won’t fit any of the babies born this year so far, though, since they are all getting on for several months old! Except Sienna, I guess Grin
HadEnoughOfBears · 11/10/2021 22:47

I thought Elton John had just cancelled his tour because he needs urgent surgery?

PurpleOkapi · 11/10/2021 23:49

I'm finding it harder and harder to believe all the christening gossip. The most recent version was that William had vetoed the plans to christen Lilibet at Westminster. Now, I can understand why William would be opposed to that, and I might even agree with him. But why would it have been up to him? No one but the Queen has veto power over the use of Westminster. While she might have functionally stepped back and let Charles make these kinds of decisions, I can't imagine why he'd have punted it over to William.

It is strange that they haven't visited, especially since they're happy to fly around the US for no real reason. I hope I'm right that the christening thing was entirely made up, and they never had any interest in flying to the UK for it. If they were willing to visit for a christening photo op with the Queen, but have no interest in seeing her or anyone else absent the photo op, that would be pretty terrible.

Viviennemary · 12/10/2021 00:55

I read that William is being allowed to make more decisions. Since he is the future. Charles is over 70. So it does make sense I think that he is allowed an input now. He does seem quite wise and responsible. But he does get very good press.

@Viviennemary
Did you make a similar comment on another thread recently accusing them of wanting to come over for their christening but Wil wouldn't allow it? I doubt if Meghan will be bringing her children to the UK anytime soon. So I'm not sure why the telegraph or DM pop this one out every so often. Harry only seems to come when he has an engagement to attend.

RedFlyingBeeBee · 12/10/2021 07:37

Waltzing in for a high profile christening at Westminster Cathedral or Windsor after lying about their 'actual wedding', using their global media platform to air their dirty laundry and alluding to a Royal racist in a sly manner should be more than enough nonsense for William to put his foot down and who could blame him? Megan undermined the ABofC by claiming he married them without witnesses. Maybe the CodE isn't so keen on the Californian pair after that?

Megan and Harry have shot themselves in the foot. I personally think Megan wishes it had all gone differently. What use is a prince on paper?

EdithWeston · 12/10/2021 08:05

The party was de-coupled from the unveiling because of covid restrictions on travel and gatherings, there were originally meant to be on the same day.

I saw newspaper reports yesterday some saying they are coming, some saying they're not. I suppose we'll find out idc if they turn up.

Travel is fairly straightforward at the moment, and is the Duchess still on maternity leave? If so, it could be one of the easier times to come over for a family visit

EdithWeston · 12/10/2021 08:09

Waltzing in for a high profile christening at Westminster Cathedral

That's unlikely isn't it? Or have they said they want this child raised as a Roman Catholic?

Windsor or St James would be the most likely, surely? Christenings are usually in the smaller Royal chapels, or the churches near residences. Royal Chapel of All Saints at Windsor (where Princess Beatrice married) perhaps?

Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2021 08:13

@PurpleOkapi they don't christen at Westminster though. I think they tend to do it at Windsor or in the Music room
At BH.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2021 08:14

@RedFlyingBeeBee it definitely wouldn't be at Westminster Cathedral!! That's RC!

lollipoprainbow · 12/10/2021 08:17

I see them more as cha cha types to be honest.

upinaballoon · 12/10/2021 10:54

Well, the 19th is next Tuesday, so Bella magazine will soon be able to tell us the whole truth about everything on this thread.

'Ah, the magic God mark on the forehead'. Yes, I'm being a bit flippant, but they were the words of someone else, and the context is not really relevant here.

Close your eyes and imagine that you are looking straight into the face of Justin Welby, when you have told the whole world that he did something unlawful, and you could easily put out your own personal statement of apology, but you never have.

Washeduponthebeach · 12/10/2021 12:38

I think it would be the height of hypocrisy to have a christening with the RF now. I doubt very much they want one anyway. I imagine William is making these decisions since it is his brother and Charles
has already been labelled as unsupportive .

Roussette · 12/10/2021 13:32

They aren't having a christening over here are they? Wasn't that just a DM story made up for clickbait?

PreparationPreparationPrep · 12/10/2021 14:07

Yes DM know how to get the clicks in and going by the posts it worked again @Roussette

I hope they will have it in US. If they share photos that would be nice if not that's their choice. Maybe they will send a foot dangling from the edge of christening gown. Smile

Serenster · 12/10/2021 17:58

It would be nice for all four babies born this year to the four cousins to be christened together, but that’s probably unlikely.

(Way way back in the 1980s Prince Edward, Lady Helen Windsor, Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones and James Ogilvy had a joint 21st birthday party as they had all been born in the same year!)
