could not believe it when I saw the advert for it last night. so PW is presenting this thing. the same Prince who flies all over the world.
obviously won't be watching as him and DA lecturing people about climate change is so hypocritical.

Does 'working' mean playing tennis with the wonderful Emma Raducanu and attending film premieres??

Nice work if you can get it!

Yes it is working.

The job of being royal comes with being lampooned in the media, spitting image, the Prince etc which are and can be cruel. I’m not surprised he keeps his life and personal interests as private as possible. Once you let the media in, it’s hard to get the genie back in the lamp, so to speak. Add in the demands of being politically neutral, it’s probably wisest to be cautious what causes you are vocal about. William and Catherine are team players in the Firm, so they have had a supporting role though that looks to be changing as the Queen steps back a bit.

Roussette · 03/10/2021 20:14

I'll do it derxa

I don't call that working. I really don't. Star studded events for a press op are not working.

I just want to see MORE from our RF

And I know I will draw comparisons with H&M here
Difference is, we aren't paying them. They're making their own way

Roussette · 03/10/2021 20:15

"William and Catherine are team players in the Firm*

I agree with that
They are absolutely perfect for that role

All of the people at the film premiere were working. Being in the right place, saying the right thing. It's like a giant production and the Cambridges had their own parts to play. They were there to promote the British film industry. Similarly with the tennis event. They were all there to promote tennis as a sport for young people. Both events were on every news bulletin.
Roussette · 03/10/2021 20:31

Yep. Don't disagree with that.

However I don't call it work. What an opportunity both those events were for someone who loves tennis and loves Daniel like me lol

Gwrach · 03/10/2021 21:02

You know the bond premier was raising money for the Special Forces community and their families. Basically a benevolent fund. So as royals they supported the premier which in turn supports the benevolent funds many of their own security teams will have been part of.

Anyways. I can't say I'm fussed that William is "the shy one" or hasn't come up with an amazing politically aligned project. He seems to like to talk about mental health and they did launch that heads together, he also has volunteered on a text line for people in crisis to message. He now has this earth shot prize.

He's the future monarch, he has no need and I think no want to step in to the limelight. Him and Catherine seem to enjoy raising their young family and turning up for the odd event. I can't say I'm fussed they haven't got some big "look at me project".

William has always been the shyer sibling, and that's ok l, that's who he is. He knows what his future job is, he knows what will be asked if him, so he's enjoying quiet time with the family and not riffling too many feathers. Seems wise to me.

rubicscubicle · 03/10/2021 21:04

Unsurprisingly, the British media had nothing but praise for K&W. No look at them being un-royal and being celebrities as they usually do with some.

Samcro · 03/10/2021 21:04

Shy or work shy?
Its not like they work much

rubicscubicle · 03/10/2021 21:05

Its not look at me or limelight to actually work, we are bloody paying for it.

A glittery dress at at the red carpet is look at me.

julieca · 03/10/2021 21:07

Sure they William and Catherine can keep who they are and what they like doing totally private. They don't have to tell us anything. But the truth is once the Queen dies the remaining RF members need to get public support to continue being a RF. And I do wonder if being incredibly private and not doing that many engagements will be enough to maintain public support.

Gwrach · 03/10/2021 21:08

Just shy I'd say.

He's done his military career, he's piloted search and rescue helicopters. I mean he can hardly apply to be a road sweep or a 9-5 office job can he. There are limitations to what any of them can do if they retain their titles.

They have to remain a-political, they have to be careful about who and what they associate with.

Can the man not just enjoy his young family and cut some ribbons for a bit till he takes on a job in his later years that he will have to do till the day he dies. I sometimes thing it's like retirment in reverse for a heir to the throne like William.

William is 39 years old, how long does he expect to do so little?

Roussette · 03/10/2021 21:13

Disagree. Who has the total luxury of having a family with two parents at home not doing that much?
Surely Kate can do the childcare thing and work a bit and he can throw himself into something.

I sometimes thing it's like retirment in reverse for a heir to the throne like William

Bit like Benjamin Button lol

Gwrach · 03/10/2021 21:14

He didn't choose this life remember

Yes he's 39 but he's already had one career that came with limitations because of who's vagina he came out of. Unlike Harry he has to think a lot more carefully about what he puts his name to, because he is the future monarch.

Harry and especially now has always had a longer lead, he can spread his wings much further. And now he needs to work for his billionaire lifestyle he needs to do more work so you will see him a lot more in coming years.

Wealthy people who have inherited their wealth have this luxury. Weather you are the daughter of a Russian oligarch or a grandson of QE2.

Some people just get death different cards, it's how the world works.

Some people even further down the social ladder have the luxury of having a SAHP, and no fears of financial security through this choice, others need both parents working full time to stay afloat. It's just how it is.

SallyLockheart · 03/10/2021 21:20

They seem to plenty busy at the moment - tennis, bond, Lakeland cadets, Northern Ireland etc. The thing is, generally - with the exception of Catherine at the bond premiere - it’s about the organisations and not them.

It makes a really refreshing change from the waves of “compassion” and whinging and vacuous pronouncements and vague undetermined promises and donations from across the Pond.

rubicscubicle · 03/10/2021 21:23

Even that incredibly private, is strange.

These are people who give the DM a year calendar of pics of their children to give away (aside from the birthdays, first days at school, and other occasions.)

rubicscubicle · 03/10/2021 21:24

Red carpet, ace tennis champs, one quick day of private jet rides to Ireland...............yes quite a lot.

You can add an army of nannies on that. Half the work is done compared to the every day person.
Roussette · 03/10/2021 21:28

I know which I'd prefer.

What do they actually do?

And they aren't russian oligarchs, they are supposed to be working members of the RF. Not two stay at home parents doing the odd thing here and there.

They seem to plenty busy at the moment - tennis, bond, Lakeland cadets, Northern Ireland etc. The thing is, generally - with the exception of Catherine at the bond premiere - it’s about the organisations and not them

But but but... what do they actually bring to these organisations?

I'd love to know. I can link again to the massive study into the effect royal patronages have on charities.
Little.

Gwrach · 03/10/2021 21:28

@rubicscubicle

So what do you want him to do?

Again remember, security limitations, a-political, not controversial in any way Needs to have a good cause/message, make change/benefit people. Needs to give the message/felling of "duty". Be informing with the position of "future king".

What job could he do full time realistically?

Gwrach · 03/10/2021 21:29

I mean I can completely see why H and M said no more, I imagine far more of their proposals were knocked back than accepted, if any at all.

MrsFin · 03/10/2021 21:31

@AgnesNaismith

Isn’t it a bit grim to turn trying to save the planet into an X Factor style competition?
Not if it saves the planet.
