obviously won't be watching as him and DA lecturing people about climate change is so hypocritical.

These are people who give the DM a year calendar of pics of their children to give away (aside from the birthdays, first days at school, and other occasions.)

This has been discussed before. The pictures were all already available to the press. The DM merely put them together and offered them as a calendar. It had pictures of Archie too. You can find details of it on Amazon.

julieca · 03/10/2021 21:45

The Queen has managed to work hard and stay politically neutral - most of the time.
Hasn't George went to boarding school now? So only 2 kids at ho,e and nannies. And yet both parents apparently hardly need to work.

Roussette · 03/10/2021 21:47

Think George is at St. Thomas's still but what do I know.

and do I have a story to tell about St. Thomas's but better shut up lol

Yes she has, because she's been The Queen since she was 25. So has done all the head of state stuff as the number one top dog since the age of 25.

Charles , William they've been in a weird sorta holding pen, one for decades...and he still hasn't got his "job" and he's 70 odd ...

With regards to the children, who knows maybe with less of them at home you will see them doing more of "the work" but then the youngest is only like 3/4 isn't he so may be a while till they have a empty nest due to boarding schools.

Like I've said I can't get worked up about it all. Same as I can't get worked up about H and M. The latter two tend to annoy me a little whilst they "find their feet" but I'm sure in time it will all get ironed out.

julieca · 03/10/2021 22:51

@Roussette oh the press said he was going to boarding school after the summer.

Serenster · 03/10/2021 23:33

But but but... what do they actually bring to these organisations?

Well, looking at some of Kate’s activities over the last week, she has:

  • thanked people involved in the humanitarian rescue efforts from Afghanistan (“shining a light on them” I think that is how others phrase it),
  • joined a group of young cadets on outdoor activities to emphasise the importance of such things,
-shone a light on UK Holocaust refugees and their stories and the importance of remembering that,
  • thanked people involved in the very successful “Hold Still” photographic record of lockdowns,
  • attended a function celebrating tennis success as patron of the LTA, including meeting and being photographed with the wheelchair tennis grand slam champions who had got a tiny fraction of the coverage that young and glamorous Emma Raducanu has,
  • put the British film industry and British fashion on front pages and social media all over the world

If you want to assess the impact of this, look up the google search statistics for Jenny Packham after the Bond premiere. Look at Robert Rinder’s comments about how much he appreciated her highlighting the story of his Winderemete refugee grandparents. See the interviews with the cadets she biked and abseiled with. I mean, we all know you won’t of course. But that’s all soft impact, and is a huge part of their job (it’s not remotely all about raising money for charities) and something they are pretty effective at.

Serenster, exactly.

It is frequently stated on here that royals add no value to charities and organisations so why exactly were Harry and Meghan visiting a school in New York and hugging children?

Why be met by the NY mayor etc for a tour of 9/11 site and meet the deputy UN official?

What value did that bring to the school, the local restaurant and it’s COVID support initiative? The 9/11 site and it’s anniversary didn’t need further promoting. The vax concert was high profile but all the heavy work, the real money, to distribute world wide vaccines is being done by the UN Covax initiative to which the Uk donated $735m, Germany $950m and the USA $2500m. The Gates foundation has reportedly contributed $150m. Global vaccine raised $1.9 m apparently by comparison. And calling for vaccine equality is worthy but I have far greater respect for Gordon Brown, WHO ambassador for global health finance, when he advocates for a concerted global effort - rooted in science and sound economics - to save lives and end the pandemic..

All the things certain posters on here criticise the Rf for doing is now being done by the Montecito two so is that equally worthless?

Or is the fact that they are recording it all for their $$$ deals so much more admirable? Yes, it will be said, they are at least funding their own lifestyle.

Hollywood celebrities who guard their privacy must wonder if any meeting with H&M will be recorded for a Netflix fly on the wall drama or highlighted in further Oprah style grievencies of micro aggressions and half remembered disagreements with H&M.

Washeduponthebeach · 04/10/2021 05:50

@Roussette

I can’t find anything about George going to boarding school. He is definitely at St Thomas’s at the moment. I know someone who works there.
Washeduponthebeach · 04/10/2021 05:54

@Roussette

I'll do it derxa

I don't call that working. I really don't. Star studded events for a press op are not working.

I just want to see MORE from our RF

And I know I will draw comparisons with H&M here
Difference is, we aren't paying them. They're making their own way

You do admire them extremely though Rousette. I can’t see what’s worthy or admirable about anything they do.
Washeduponthebeach · 04/10/2021 05:58

Disagree. Who has the total luxury of having a family with two parents at home not doing that much?

Well, Harry and Meghan of course.

Spiindoctor · 04/10/2021 06:09

Or is the fact that they are recording it all for their $$$ deals so much more admirable? Yes, it will be said, they are at least funding their own lifestyle.

I do wonder how rich people make more money but apparently H&M manage it by not plundering the earth or investing in anything that requires low paid work etc - I don't really think there is a way of making money that entirely does good.
Their videos /tv have advertisements before and during - all those are actually info on how to improve your life are they? and not buy X or Y crap because the a big company makes money on it.

Washeduponthebeach · 04/10/2021 06:15

No they make money by flying around on private jets and using a fleet of environmentally unfriendly cars full of minders and ‘securidee’. Also living in a house with umpteen bedrooms which must be extremely environmentally unfriendly in itself.

hellsbells99 · 04/10/2021 07:31

Prince William has done a lot of work with mental health and his projects Heads Together and Heads Up

smilesy · 04/10/2021 07:45

Anyway, did anyone else watch the Earthshot programme? I thought it was quite good. It highlighted all the issues we face but it also managed to be hopeful that we could actually do something, and that some people and organisations are already doing something. I realise it’s a drop in the ocean (no pun intended), but we have to start somewhere. I liked that the three finalists were offering solutions. I particularly liked that many of the projects started from the point of view that they could understand why there was financial pressure on populations to exploit their land, and we’re looking to offer solutions to that, instead of just saying that exploitation shouldn’t happen. The only thing I wasn’t clear about was how they actually decide which finalist wins, unless I missed something 🤔

Roussette · 04/10/2021 07:49

How funny Washed that you are slagging off H&M for doing photo ops and star studded events when we don't pay for them. Yet it's OK for K&W?
I don't think the 'we don't pay for them' bit has not sunk in with you. I've said it to you many a time, and have no idea why you get so worked up about them given that fact

They support themselves. They can do what they want. So, sorry, your joke post fell flat with me.

This thread is about William and what he does, not Harry and what he does.

rubicscubicle · 04/10/2021 07:56

Wow, that is a lot of thank you's from KM. Quite a way to big up a portfolio. I'll be sure to put any thank yous I did on my CV next time.

Harry and Meghan are not working royals, nor are we paying for them.

They went to the school to highlight the poverty and by giving a small donation as a typical 'example donation'. To show people that you can donate, however small. A well used strategy not to put people off by having rich or celebrities giving so much that people feel there is no need or their own donation is too small. After H&M food deliveries, Badboys said they had lots of donations and people to volunteer.

It's September, therefore natural to pay respects especially to such a big tragedy. Hence the moaning clothes they wore. We did not hear all the discussions, maybe they wanted to know about what is done for families left behind etc.

They pledged a donation of 25K to the restaurant to help out staff, especially after Covid.

They spoke to the UN, because they have been talking to the UN especially lately about the vaccines. Something they followed up with the concert. After the last concert, Global Citizen CEO said thanks for their help and a lot more countries donated as a result.

As for them recording. That helps with accuracy anyway. Netflix is not going to show celebrities without their knowledge. And since they did no wrong, they are hardly going to be sitting there worried about exposure.

rubicscubicle · 04/10/2021 08:00

put the British film industry and British fashion on front pages and social media all over the world

I think you will find the film industry put itself on the front pages, especially the actors.

Roussette · 04/10/2021 08:05

Harry and Meghan are not working royals, nor are we paying for them

I honestly think some posters have a total blind spot with this.

This is laughable 'they make money by flying around on private jets and using a fleet of environmentally unfriendly cars full of minders and ‘securidee’. Also living in a house with umpteen bedrooms which must be extremely environmentally unfriendly in itself'

If they want to spend their money on security, they are quite entitled to. No idea why you can't spell security lol.
Umpteen bedrooms? Nine actually.

I think it's envy and jealousy on your part that they're actually doing OK.

If you're worried about how many bedrooms someone has, why not criticise the paid for Edward with his 120 roomed massive pile? 120 rooms is obscene.

smilesy · 04/10/2021 08:11

Ahem, did anybody watch Earthshot then?🤣

rubicscubicle · 04/10/2021 08:12

@Samcro

Shy or work shy? Its not like they work much
Work shy.

Don't know why people are saying William is shy. He isn't. He is a self important and self preserving spoilt prince who is used to having all pander to him.

William is used to having his way. The media will do as he says. Even then I think it's all about him and no one else. When the media were having a go at his wife, not much was being said about William himself. The only reason he stopped those nude pics of KM was because he did not want his wife splashed all over for his own pride, rather than KM. With the tatler magazine story, the only line that was removed was about rose. If he could threaten a lawsuit about those rumours, he can threaten about his wife too, he left her as a sacrificial lamb.

Before KM it was Harry who took the slack. When he was shining William's polo boots, I could very much see William bullying him. I believe Robert Lacey book about William not looking out for Harry.

His self preservation means he will not put out too much of himself and energy. Hence his lack of work with the ambulances and no project (projects don't have to be political), he is doing the absolute minimum that is required.

Roussette · 04/10/2021 08:22

Ahem, did anybody watch Earthshot then?

@smilesy

Washed brought them up, not me.

With two posts diected at me, I am allowed to respond.

I would also prefer the thread stayed to the subject in hand, unfortunately some posters can't resist bringing it round to H&M.

StormzyinaTCup · 04/10/2021 08:27

Don't know why people are saying William is shy. He isn't. He is a self important and self preserving spoilt prince who is used to having all pander to him.

Like Harry and Andrew then. The difference is PW does have an element of self-awareness so doesn't go so much on the public 'woe is me' tantrums like the other two.

dementedma · 04/10/2021 08:28

I thought the Earthshot programme was very interesting and the projects are brilliant. It gave me hope. Cant get to worked up about PW using planes. I dont imagine Sir David Attenborough walks to all the countries he films in. If PW can use his role and profile for good, then why not?

rubicscubicle · 04/10/2021 08:34

More like Andrew then Harry. William does the bare minimum, at least Harry puts some effort and does projects.
smilesy · 04/10/2021 08:36

@rubicscubicle, did you watch the Earthshot programme. Because that is what we are discussing here so I wondered if you watched it so you could make some informed comment, rather than sweeping generalisations based on your obvious prejudice towards William and championing of Harry. It is sad that people seek to drive a wedge view them. They are brothers after all. You have no idea what their relationship has been like over the years. My own sons relationship has varied over time, but they are close now. I feel you have just joined this thread in order to champion H&M and slag W&K off. I have not seen you on here before and now you are on two threads doing the same thing. You are free to do this of course, but this is a thread about Williams Earthshot prize. Have you even informed yourself about it? I have said up thread that there is much to criticise the RF for, but this is actually a good idea.
