could not believe it when I saw the advert for it last night. so PW is presenting this thing. the same Prince who flies all over the world.
obviously won't be watching as him and DA lecturing people about climate change is so hypocritical.
(rant over)

@Samcro yes like so many things. I regularly rage about the lack of access to shops, public buildings etc 🙄. Sometimes all it would take is a small, relatively cheap and easily stored ramp. We struggled to get into a church for a wedding a while ago because they couldn’t find the ramp. We have our own but I wasn’t expecting a church to be inaccessible. Anyway, rant and derail over 🤣

Samcro · 07/10/2021 16:23

don't get me started, I will end up derailing my own thread lol.
a lot of it is down to stupidity.
went out for lunch. DB had gone in person and booked a wheelchair friendly table. we rock up and they had given the table to a group of able bodied people (as in no wheelchairs) the staff member offered us a table......up some steps!!!! that went down well. maybe she thought dd was a darlek.

Interesting that chris packham and i think 100 children are taking a petition to buck palace, asking them to rewild their land.

Packham. An attention seeking charlatan
Samcro · 09/10/2021 17:39

Why?

OP posts:
ShamedBySiri · 09/10/2021 18:55

I don't even know who Chris Packham is, but he was on the radio earlier saying if the Royals rewild 800,000 acres "there will be loads of (I may have misheard this, but I thought he said) Storks, bears, lynx and probably some wolves too".

He's obviously a complete nitwit.

Samcro · 09/10/2021 21:56

Strange that Chris PAckaham is deemed a attention seeking charlatan, yet is ok for Pw to be a hypocrite!

Packham. An attention seeking charlatan

Not at all. I'm surprised at this comment.

Roussette · 09/10/2021 22:08

Why is Chris P a charlatan?

He's done a lot to draw attention to badger culling (I have mixed views on this), hunting etc.
I loved Springwatch.
He has a voice and I don't discount that.

However... since he talked of the RF rewilding some of their massive land, he's had someone blow up his LR. Not on.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58855168

Worth reading. Will the RF do anything?
No.
800,000 acres and they'll hang on to that land Hmm

Samcro · 10/10/2021 08:18

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall author Michael Morpurgo, actors Sir Mark Rylance and Josh O'Connor and Packham's wildlife TV colleague Kate Humble are among those to sign the petition

so these people also back it. so are they all charlatans too?

"The day after #ChrisPackham marches to see #TheQueen - Britain’s biggest landowner - with a petition asking her to stop cutting down trees on her land to use it for hunting - terrorists blow up his car! Connection anyone?"

Not charlatans but definitely band wagon jumping idiots.

Bears, wolves and lynx roaming the land? The UK is not Yellowstone Park.

Roussette · 10/10/2021 10:00

Yeah those conservationists are all band wagon jumping idiots... Hmm

Even the UN says an area the size of China needs to be rewilded to meet climate commitments. The massive 21,000 hectare Balmoral estate is managed purely for grouse shooting and deer stalking. Why?
Yet 62% of the public thinks the RF should give their land over to nature.

Idiots and charlatans though...

COP26 is going to be interesting, given 5 RF members, including the Queen, are attending, and William with his Earthshot.
They need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

can he same not be said for PW?

OP posts:
derxa · 10/10/2021 10:59

and Packham's wildlife TV colleague Kate Humble are among those to sign the petition I thought better of her to be honest. I hope she's 'rewilding' her farm.

derxa · 10/10/2021 11:04

Packham was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to nature conservation.

Aspiringmatriarch · 10/10/2021 11:46

What's wrong with rewilding then, derxa?

What is rewilding?
Aspiringmatriarch · 10/10/2021 11:54

You just used the phrase yourself! It means increasing biodiversity, basically.

smilesy · 10/10/2021 12:00

I think it will be interesting to see what happens to the Royal Estates. I suspect not a lot while the Queen is still alive but maybe when Charles is king he might want to follow through with more eco ideas. He has apparently been making changes at Sandringham as I think I said up thread. As for Chris Packham, he is on the spectrum (he identifies as Asperger I think) so sometimes statements that would seem perfectly normal to him may come across as a bit “off”. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to point out to any large landowner the things they could be doing to improve the environment. Can’t see any bandwagon jumping particularly 🤷‍♀️

derxa · 10/10/2021 12:09

A quote from a Guardian reader: How nice of the comfortable South East England dwellers to be so concerned about our highlands even if you never come near them and have done nothing to help with economic and population restoration since the highland clearances. Still, highlanders can continue to live in poverty while you peddle your not very well informed environmental credentials while covering your home counties in concrete.
Aspiringmatriarch · 10/10/2021 12:23

Oh, the Scottish thing again. OK Hmm.

Roussette · 10/10/2021 12:31

I could quote complete opposite to that from a comments page

Samcro · 10/10/2021 12:34

can someone explain to me why its ok for PW to talk about climate change. but not for CP......
don't get it.
