could not believe it when I saw the advert for it last night. so PW is presenting this thing. the same Prince who flies all over the world.
obviously won't be watching as him and DA lecturing people about climate change is so hypocritical.

Be careful though, Rousette, my DH has a real bee in his bonnet about electric cars and has done a lot of research. These high mileages can only be achieved under ideal circumstances (much like the maximum MPG for the internal combustion engine), so make sure you look into reviews on real world usage

Ummm yes, knowing three people with fully electric cars I think we'll be pretty informed! Shock

julieca · 05/10/2021 15:41

But William could use an electric car instead of a helicopter. In fact, it would be an easy pr coup to say they were going to use an electric car whenever possible.

Roussette · 05/10/2021 15:45

I agree julieca.

If two neighbours of mine can manage it, not sure why he can't.
Very strange

smilesy · 05/10/2021 15:54

@Roussette that was meant as a friendly observation on all the things to consider 🤷‍♀️

Roussette · 05/10/2021 16:28

I know, you weren't to know however that I am Chief Official Researcher (self appointed title) for mine and the wider family, everyone comes to me when they're buying something 😂
It's like Review Centre on my laptop lol

Washeduponthebeach · 05/10/2021 17:10

I suppose even with an electric car , going from Norfolk to London regularly would take a long time. Especially with three kids. There will be lots of occasions when they need to do meetings or engagements for a few hours and then get back home. Really, they ought to be based in London not Norfolk.

Samcro · 05/10/2021 17:14

they don't need to be in Norfolk, that is a choice.
Same way they don't need a long school commute, again their choice.
They make a lot of choices that mean they need helicopters.

People won't be happy until William travels in a Fred Flintstone car or a pony and trap. Just say you don't like him. It would save a lot of energy and typing.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 05/10/2021 17:21

People won't be happy until William travels in a Fred Flintstone car or a pony and trap. Hmm No, just to appear to make some efforts instead of current massive consumption. Some of it is difficult to avoid but some things can be done. No need for a pony and trap just yet! That comment gives the impression he's bending over backwards for the climate and we're still not happy which is clearly not the case.

I dont dislike him, I just don't see him as some green saviour.

@MagnoliaMcLadyDeek

I think the finalists all have very impressive projects and it's a marvellous boost and publicity for their efforts. I applaud Prince William setting up what will undoubtedly be a very high profile competition which will have a legacy that will be influential for many years to come.

Prince William has hardly travelled abroad since Covid and when he does he often uses commercial flights.

Unlike someone who has been swanning around USA in borrowed private jets Hmm

Is that you Piers?
smilesy · 05/10/2021 17:27

But they are officially based in KP. The children are at school in London. The trip to Anmer was one weekend with their kids.

While I was Googling earlier I found this article from the BBC. It is a few years old but it looks into both the cost of royal travel and there is a bit on the carbon footprint. Interestingly, the Royal Train comes out badly.

Roussette · 05/10/2021 17:27

I don't dislike him but I will admit that I don't warm to him. I just always see a thinly disguised irritation from him

Roussette · 05/10/2021 17:33

It has been reported endlessly that Kate loves it there. I doubt very much if they spend every weekend in KP and not going to the place she loves, for the weekend.

I also doubt it is just one weekend. Yes they were spotted taking a helicopter trip one weekend.
As I said above... do you honestly think that because it isn't on google, it doesn't happen?
Course it does!!
It's like saying Charles only goes to Highgrove once, because he was spotted in Tetbury and reported on!

Even Wiki says this...'It continues to be their private country home, and the family have been reported to spend weekends and school holidays at Anmer

So really not one weekend!

smilesy · 05/10/2021 17:35

Like I said, we don’t know. I was only saying that that particular Google search didn’t prove anything either way 🤷‍♀️ I’m sure Kate does love it there. Who wouldn’t? There are rumours that they are thinking of re-locating their non London residence to Windsor but who knows.

derxa · 05/10/2021 17:36

That comment gives the impression he's bending over backwards for the climate and we're still not happy which is clearly not the case. I don't think that at all. He's just muddling along like the rest of us. Environmental change will only come through government and the implementation of new technology and good ideas that this Earthshot prize might stimulate.

Roussette · 05/10/2021 17:39

Well... we do know don't we?

It is their family home and they spend weekends and school holidays there.

Of course you can't use google for something as obvious as this. They spent lockdown there, it's where they feel most comfortable, Kate loves it, she takes her pictures of the children there.... so saying we don't know and they went there for one weekend is just plain daft.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 05/10/2021 17:42

But we can all do our bit too dexra, I know I do and I think someone who will be your head of state, and how is financed by you, should be seen to do their best also. It's a long way to a kart and you know that.

derxa · 05/10/2021 17:50

So you're not in the UK then
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 05/10/2021 17:53

No. Apologies, got your name wrong!

smilesy · 05/10/2021 17:56

I’m not saying they only went for one weekend ever. I’m saying that that particular occasion was only one weekend and that is the only one we know for sure they went by helicopter. I’m sure they have used one since and maybe also gone by car. But those reports only referred to one weekend. I agree with derxa and have already said as much. We all muddle along and try and do our bit. Sometimes it’s not practical. The infrastructure is not there yet. I also agree with Samcro that William is not some kind of green saviour. I do, however, think that Earthshot is a good idea and that William deserves some credit for it, much like Harry with Invictus.

derxa · 05/10/2021 18:04

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

No. Apologies, got your name wrong!
That's ok. It's an oft made mistake.
Roussette · 05/10/2021 18:09

I think, by a process working things out, law of averages and all that...we can assume that one journey was replicated many times.
They just weren't pictured.

KP does have a helipad after all !!

Roussette · 05/10/2021 18:10

Google only shows you what the RF want you to see quite obviously

Paquerette · 05/10/2021 19:28

@Roussette

(and that's just the trips we know about! I imagine they use it like we'd catch a train or bus)
Imagine? You posted earlier in this thread that W&K “take helicopter flights between KP and Anmer Hall like we’d take a bus or tube”. So, you obviously just made that up?
