Harry and Meghan statement on Afghanistan

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/08/2021 18:42

“The world is exceptionally fragile right now.
As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless.
As we all watch the growing humanitarian disaster in Haiti, snd the threat of it worsening after last weekend’s earthquake, we are left heartbroken.
And as we all witness the continuing global health crisis, exacerbated by the new variants and constant misinformation, we are left scared.
When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realise it or not. And though we are not meant to live in a state of suffering, we are as a people, being conditioned to accept it. It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action - together.
To start, we encourage you to join us in supporting a number of organisations doing critical work. We also urge those in positions of global influence to rapidly advance the humanitarian dialogues that are expected to take place this fall at multilateral gatherings such as the U.N. General Assembly and the Leader’s Summit.
As an international community, it is the decisions we make now - to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet - that will prove our humanity.”

H&M are being criticised for making this about them and for not calling out Biden, notably the FLOTUS is report as being a personal friend of H.

What do mumsnetters think?

Not guilty 'gov'! Grin

I know that. I just bristle at someone saying something that is categorically not true

@smilesy ironic isn't it, someone comes along and comments on what you said and you don't like it...onlymthsts exactly what your doing to H&M reading what they post or write and commenting on it

Bitter taste of your own medicine, maybe dont dish it out if you cant take it

Why2why · 27/08/2021 20:51
@Why2why - you are very passionate, but I think you should do a bit of fact checking about the situation and refresh your memory. Meghan was exceedingly popular in the run up to the wedding. It was a lovely wedding - I for one really enjoyed it and thought that she would be great for Harry.

I really think that she had not, however, grasped that she was the spouse of the spare, getting a “second division” experience, being in the second row, getting second-rate houses (by their standards!) and not realising that any celebrity-type behaviour does not go down well when it’s the rf which is taxpayer funded. Act like money’s going out of fashion if you’re Elton John, but if you’re royal you have to be seen to be somewhat modest (of course who knows what they spend on in private, but it’s the appearance of being in old tweeds that counts).

Another one, Meghan wasn’t hounded by Harry into marriage; her friend who was International Membership Director at Soho House arranged for them to meet. So it was from her end that the initial meeting came about, not as was reported that he saw her on Suits.
We must be living in different countries. Meghan was never popular with the British press. They went at her with all the racist undertones to the point where Harry had to write to them to back off. Even some female MPs wrote an open letter making reference to the fact that this woman was hounded from the get go.

You need to do your own fact checking, my dear.

In any case, regardless; Meghan has done absolutely nothing wrong to warrant the level abuse she has received as keeps on getting from the British press. What is embarrassing for Britain is that the same level of outrage is not aimed at a man who is believed to have had sex with a minor who was being trafficked at the time.

The past is the past. Meghan has rejected the hate and left your island. They are enjoying their lives, going from strength to strength and they don’t know you exist.

Are you doing any better than Meghan? Are your relationships in a better state than hers? If so, celebrate and be happy with yourself.

Flippin' yes yes yes to this.

All this shows us up as a country. It's really really embarrasing to me.

They are over there, suck it up. Get real. OK they have a whinge but FFS it's no different to H's Mum and Dad. That's what they did.

Let's concentrate on what will actually impact the Monarchy hugely.

Andrew.

Not H&M.

smilesy · 27/08/2021 20:55

@Dreamstate. I’m sorry you feel that the only way to have a discussion is by slinging insults. I shall not engage with you any more 😀

Lol well you only sling insults about H&M but hey don't let that hypocritical door hit you on the way out Grin

Roussette · 27/08/2021 21:07

I hate to say @smilesy, in th'e nicest possible way, because I respect our view, you've not been insulting, unlike others...

It's called kickback. I just cannot indulge in this hate of H&M when they have done everything asked of them...

They paid back Frogmore
They pay they own security
They keep a distance, they are not pimping out their children in the press
They want to do their own thing
Yes, they have titles. So does Andrew. 'Nuff said
They support themselves

AND they draw attention and put out money to worthwhile causes and they are loved in the US. We are in a bubble on MN. You have no idea.

Some posters on here need to come to terms with the fact they are respected and liked. They are just not in the RF. Good on them.

If it's shone a light on the RF, that is good. It needs change.

MintyCedric · 27/08/2021 21:08

Good lord...you're entitled to your opinion but do you realise how obsessive/deranged you sound?!

smilesy · 27/08/2021 21:21

@Roussette. Sorry I’m not quite following what you said there. Are you saying I haven’t been insulting or I have? I think you are saying I haven’t but I’m a bit confused 🤔. Sorry for being dense 🤣

Roussette · 27/08/2021 21:39

I annoy myself so don't worry smilesy lol

You haven't been insulting to me --yet- but

All I'm saying is summed up in the body of my post really.....

not directed at you specifically but I just wish everyone would let this couple go
Leave it
Suck it up
They've gone.

So what.... they have a whinge in a book. It's absolutely nothing . All the Royals do it at some point.

I think the RF have far far more to address than H&M. They've gone. They have to look to the future, address the PA problem, address how they will model themselves in the future when the Q goes... which who knows could be soon (I had parents this age who died within weeks of each other)

Look to the future, I just wish the press would stop this clickbait nonsense with H&M because all it says to me is no wonder they left

Coronateachingagain · 27/08/2021 21:45

Oh all it says to me is good luck they left!!

Roussette · 27/08/2021 21:46

Exactly! You are not wrong there!

smilesy · 27/08/2021 21:47

@Roussette. Ah ok. I’m with you now. I have no intention of ever insulting you. That’s not my style, contrary to popular belief 🤣

Coronateachingagain · 27/08/2021 21:51

@Roussette

Exactly! You are not wrong there!
Yep we are all happy then. Maybe they should stop calling themselves Duke and Duchess if they really have a problem with the system! 😂
Coronateachingagain · 27/08/2021 21:53

And either pay some more taxes or openly be clear about donating all from their "Foundation" too.

Roussette · 27/08/2021 21:56

Oh piffle Corona

I thought we were reaching an agreement there!

Foundations. Normal in the US.
Please let's not go there!

He ain't 'Duke' lol
Waiting on Andrew and then we're talkin' Grin

Ha I will give you that one. Andrew should give it up by own accord. Harry still his own decision.

On the "foundation" I disagree. They paid top dollar for advice (if you know a little about it in the US) and are playing the system. Legally on, of course they won't go to jail but the IRS will closely watch Wink, but the message is very much off and short sighted. Smile

Roussette · 27/08/2021 22:09

Your view!

Harry can't give it up just like that without huge repurcusions within the RF. And pressure on FS (favourite son!)

Hey, we're talking!

Coronateachingagain · 27/08/2021 22:11

The difference between the Gates and the like foundations and their "foundation" - Gates has openly stated everything in the foundation is going to charity, and they are using the tax incentive to grow the pot, having contributed billions initially. Now I am not sure what this lot have contributed to their "foundation" initially, except what is required to pay for cost of all those expensive high profile people plus who know what other cost we will never know (security?). You choose to live by the sword, don't you.

So piffle the double speak, on the "foundation" stuff. I want to see the accounts first, but hey that will never happen.

Oh try it on - Harry giving it up. It will be a week of headlines and then that's it. Sailing into the sunset, be happy and farewell. Isn't that what they want? But that is not what they want is it? It is the years of headlines that will bring the money in.
Roussette · 27/08/2021 22:17

We were doing so well for that moment... [cry]

Coronateachingagain · 27/08/2021 22:25

@Roussette

We were doing so well for that moment... [cry]
Yes we were! I like your sense of humour though - if you could pass a little on to the couple in question that would be great!
Roussette · 27/08/2021 22:32

I'll try!

Oh and I forgot to say - Gates is not into writing any books, deals with Netflix or Spotify or whatever before donating - he is focused on spending. The. Money. Because it is already there. Unlike the "foundation" from this pair.
