Harry and Meghan statement on Afghanistan

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/08/2021 18:42

“The world is exceptionally fragile right now.
As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless.
As we all watch the growing humanitarian disaster in Haiti, snd the threat of it worsening after last weekend’s earthquake, we are left heartbroken.
And as we all witness the continuing global health crisis, exacerbated by the new variants and constant misinformation, we are left scared.
When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realise it or not. And though we are not meant to live in a state of suffering, we are as a people, being conditioned to accept it. It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action - together.
To start, we encourage you to join us in supporting a number of organisations doing critical work. We also urge those in positions of global influence to rapidly advance the humanitarian dialogues that are expected to take place this fall at multilateral gatherings such as the U.N. General Assembly and the Leader’s Summit.
As an international community, it is the decisions we make now - to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet - that will prove our humanity.”

H&M are being criticised for making this about them and for not calling out Biden, notably the FLOTUS is report as being a personal friend of H.

What do mumsnetters think?

'you talk about not silencing people......yet we have seen just on this thread someone being attacked just for having a differing opinion.'

Look, I don't agree with targeting posters whether they have the same opnion as me or not. As I've said I've experienced it on many covid threads, but tbh mnhq are pretty good at deleting and banning people who attack others constantly.

Back to the thread. If the Cambridges had have released a 'we all feel' 'layers of pain' cringeworthy statement i would have the same opinion. It is not the Sussexes that make me roll my eyes because of who they are it is their ridiculously deluded behaviour.

This isn't her 'Tig' blog, they now have a massive platform thanks to their rf connections and need to just get with it a bit regarding tone and delivery. I should perhaps put myself forward as a consultant.

Coronateachingagain · 19/08/2021 10:33

Some posters also like to detail the thread so it gets deleted or some posts deleted. Which serves their purpose if they are not liking what they read about, for instance, Meghan Markle.

@JaniieJones I would hire you! Lots of common sense.

@catinboots21

Making an observation that someone posts a lot on a particular subject doesn't constitute 'attacking' IMO

What?

You know you said far more than that. And what you said about me.
Dont pretend otherwise.
Obviously MNHQ disagree with you as they deleted your post.

Roussette · 19/08/2021 10:43

@WinnieTheW0rm

Confused

And I don't see why it would count as bullying, unless you think there is something wrong with being very interested in a subject and posting frequently

I don't care a jot if someone just says I post a lot.
That wasn't just what was said. I object to being called names.

Hence the deleted post.

I was responding to a different post, not yours.

The theme of whether noting someone is a prolific poster on these threads has been discussed more than once, and I was thinking of all the previous.

Not one specific

Roussette · 19/08/2021 10:50

I didn't realise that you were referring to the previous or past posts.
I apologise

Oldbutstillgotit · 19/08/2021 10:50

An excerpt from the updated FF ….

'What started [as a] fairytale romance became a story that reinvented the genre – a self-made, independent woman playing an equal role alongside her knight.'

Roussette · 19/08/2021 10:52

Love it!
😂😂

That will really inflame!

Reminds me of SF's book just out about the reheaded aristocrat!

Oldbutstillgotit · 19/08/2021 10:55

@ Roussette

I have no plans to read either book . I admit to flicking through FF but thought it was dire .
Currently looking after baby DGD who has finally nodded off so catching up on “ news”

AnnunciataZ · 19/08/2021 10:56

That's hilarious @Oldbutstillgotit! I'm starting to think the Sussexes are just trolling the British tabloids now as that'll be seized on with gusto. Sarah Vine should be able to get at least 2 columns out of that statement alone!

Pass me the sick bucket.

Awww little DGD getting her nap!

I'm not reading either of them also. Mills & Boon not my bag at all, read one a zillion years ago when I was about 16 and didn't even get it then!
And I don't watch The Crown or other stuff like that.

Annunciata
Sarah Vine will implode!

Agreed

Maybe see my response to that above.

I also only read one years ago, and didn't rush to finish it or read another Grin
AnnunciataZ · 19/08/2021 11:10

Fergie's Mills & Boon (which I have no intention of reading) has gotten a decent review in The Guardian, of all outlets! Usually they like to appear above anything the plebs might like 😆

I can't believe he is updating his book to include his grandfather's funeral and now turning on his grandmother - yet still exceptions reconciliation?

Has he left the door open for them to reach out or he thinks they have left the door open for him to come back in to the fold.

Because now he is criticising his grandmother - who is, despite what some MN posters believed, still very much liked.

I think now he has gone there with that - he closed the door himself. The only thing that will benefit from putting his grandfathers funeral in the book is his bank balance.

Both of them are very crude. Too far, just as bad a z list celebrities doing exposes in the Sun newspaper for cash

I almost can’t believe this is a real.

That made me snort my tea 😂
Glad she is so independent she needed to find herself a knight 🤣

callmeadoctor · 19/08/2021 11:36

I did think the statement was very "wordy".
