Blurb from publisher.

In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, on that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous and uplifting human story.'

never

Yup. Wink

Twiggyandcrisp · 19/07/2021 20:48

I hate to say it, but it sounds like it could be the next step for him to regain some control and reassert some dominance over his family and up the ante in their ongoing dispute.

The Palace and the staff at KP will I imagine be dreading the contents of the book and every ensuing instalment, and after that, it will be the biopic, the Netflix mini series etc and so on and so on.

I think there are probably faults on both sides, I can well believe there are racist members among the RF and their staff for example, but this seems a strange move for someone who is keen to guard his privacy and that of his wife and children. He must know by now that "telling the truth as he sees it" is never the way it works; the media won't let it.

Oldbutstillgotit · 19/07/2021 20:50

I cannot find the article now but I read that there are probably going to be changes to the Regency Act as Harry is no longer able to fulfill Constitutional Duties .

yellowsofa · 19/07/2021 20:50

Has he no shame?

CathyorClaire · 19/07/2021 20:53

Describing him as a 'fascinating and influential global figure of our time' smacks of some of the most desperate dead horse flogging puff I've ever seen but just like Finding Freedom there won't be any need to actually buy it.

The press will ruthlessly hunt down the juiciest snippets and the rest can wait for the 50p shelf at the charity shop.

"I'm writing this not as the Prince I was born as but the man I have become"

A man who now has more titles than he was born with?

Dogatetheleftovers · 19/07/2021 20:56

That statement seems quite telling smilesy

thecognoscenti · 19/07/2021 20:57

I think it's the sort of thing which will go down well in America. Personally I find it pretty tacky for someone who has made such a point of talking about how he hates intrusion into his private life to then serve it up on a plate. I'd also be interested to see just how much of the proceeds actually make it to charity, and which charity they go to.

PurpleOkapi · 19/07/2021 20:57

Their primary goal seems to be to air family grievances in a way that makes them look good. Money is a secondary goal - they have other ways to make it, or at least they seem to think they do. They learned from the Apple TV pushback that financially profiting off of aired grievances makes them look bad, so now they're (supposedly) donating the proceeds to charity instead. We'll see how that works out for them.

Tabitha005 · 19/07/2021 20:58

They must really need the money.

JudgeRindersMinder · 19/07/2021 20:59

@smilesy

This from the BBC article:

“The BBC has been told the duke has recently spoken privately with his family about writing the book.
A spokesperson for the duke added that he would not be expected to obtain permission for the project from Buckingham Palace.”

That’ll be in the same way they spoke to the Queen about their daughter’s name then…
PurpleOkapi · 19/07/2021 20:59

"I'm writing this not as the Prince I was born as but the man I have become"

Does anyone want to place a bet on the cover and press materials saying "Harry Mountbatten-Windsor" rather than "His Royal Highness Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex"?

Anyone?

crickets

Didn't think so.

Serenster · 19/07/2021 21:00

Interestingly, the only other high profile Royals who have published their memoirs are Sarah the Duchess of York, the Duke of Windsor and the Duchess of Windsor. His choosing to join that company that will definitely cause some comment, I imagine.

(There were a couple more by grand daughters of Queen Victoria, but they weren’t exactly well-known).

I also feel sorry for all the school friends, army colleagues, former drinking buddies etc who may well be worried what the hell he’s going to say about them and the lifestyle he’s clearly now distancing himself from. Harry & Meghan haven’t exactly been shy at openly smearing people they’ve come across who have displeased them, with no right fo reply.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/07/2021 21:01

Did he get a bumper pack of crayons for his birthday then?.

lunar1 · 19/07/2021 21:02

I hope it's listed in the fiction section, he's not the best for accuracy when someone scratches beneath the surface of his stories!

I'm not sure they do have other ways to make money, at least not the sort of money which will keep them in the lifestyle they think they deserve.

Other than their royal connections, what do they really have to offer?

ItPearl · 19/07/2021 21:05

What has he left to reveal at this point??

Comeinoutoftherain · 19/07/2021 21:06

I know it's the DM reporting it, but apparently he may have been paid an advance of "at least $20 million".

Michelle and Barack Obama got a $65 million advance for theirs (jointly).

If that's true, there's your answer right there. $20 million is A LOT of money.

Gh0stontoast · 19/07/2021 21:07

It’s a slippery slope isn’t it. He’ll be flogging “Harry and Megs” mood rings, “Sussex” cuff links and “Ginger” gin to pay for the school fees, and upkeep on the mansion in a few years time.

@ShamedBySiri my toddler had that exact facial expression & arms folded posture a couple of hours ago 😂😂😂😂😂😂

mathanxiety · 19/07/2021 21:08

Yes, there is an audience in America for this book. I have a feeling the image of the UK abroad is about to take a hit.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/07/2021 21:09

Fuck, I’ll write my memoirs for $20 million

CauliflowerCheese30 · 19/07/2021 21:09

It's just inviting people to carry on talking about them isn't it, I too shall be really keen to see which charity the proceeds will go to.

PurpleOkapi · 19/07/2021 21:10

@IcedPurple Well, Meghan could go back to acting if she wanted. Harry can fly helicopters. Grin

I think you're right that anything they do that might realistically support their lifestyle pretty much has to trade on their connections. The Netflix and Spotify deals certainly did. But as far as we know, those didn't require any royal-related content. If Harry and Meghan can find some way to bring in subscribers without spilling family gossip, the platforms will be fine with it - they're only interested in the numbers. Whether that will actually be possible remains to be seen.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 19/07/2021 21:11

Ooh maybe he’ll talk about his racism then - any word on him using the P word? Book surely has room for that. Not a royalist but also not listening to this idiot who wouldn’t even get his wife help in a crisis.
