Blurb from publisher.

In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, on that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous and uplifting human story.'

Although I was aware Sarah wrote a book - I must have read that in the papers somewhere - I don't recall much publicity or outcry about it. I've never read a review of it or seen a copy on a charity shop shelf.
I assumed it was aimed at the American market and hardly bursting with shocking revelations. Also Sarah has always been respectful of the Queen so I doubt there was anything overly critical in her book.

I don't think they are comparable.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 20/07/2021 08:09

He’s just insufferable

TravelDreamLife · 20/07/2021 08:09

My issue is he's going to be mentioning other people in his singular view - family, friends, staff who can't respond publicly & he's profiting from it. I can just choose not to read it.

It's hypocritical to do this when he talks about poor-me privacy. Double the hypocrisy if, like his wife, he uses the title he says ruined his life to sell his book.

How do you know they are comparable or not, since the book is not realised yet.

In the interview, the problem with family was about the racism concern. Other than that it was about the firm practices or rules.

Farevalah · 20/07/2021 08:10

I wouldn't buy it but certainly looking forward to reading all about it. Hope more people start to question the merits of having a monarchy. (I'm republican.)
Good luck Harry!

Roussette · 20/07/2021 08:12

Shamed Sarah was lucky. No Twitter around then, less social media etc

Also Sarah has always been respectful of the Queen so I doubt there was anything overly critical in her book

Nor will Harry be criticising the Queen and there was a lot critical about how the RF is run in it... the men in grey suits etc, it's wrong to say it wasn't critical. It was.

GreenCrayon · 20/07/2021 08:13

*Hope more people start to question the merits of having a monarchy.'

But Harry needs the monarchy to remain otherwise he loses his USP. Being a Prince and his connection to the Royal family is literally the only thing he has to make money from. Otherwise he's just an almost 40 year old man who was once in the army and who has lived a privileged life. Its not much of a story.

Exactly what Sarah F did. And she kept all the money, nothing went to charity.

ShamedBySiri · 20/07/2021 08:18

As I said I haven't read it! So probably shouldn't comment. But I don't remember a massive outcry or much in the news about it. My assumption was that it would have been pretty anodyne and harmless.

Harry may not directly criticise the Queen but in criticising the monarchy and other members of the Royal family he indirectly criticised her as head of the family and as Monarch.

I also think he should have more respect for the privacy of his family members.

Whinge · 20/07/2021 08:19

Exactly. If he isn't a prince then he's just a man who doesn't get on with his family

Mummy194 · 20/07/2021 08:20

Sarah is not the only royal who published. Some of Queen Victoria's memoirs were also published.

Prince Harry’s Memoirs to be published.

@smilesy

And still he claims to respect and love HM. What a shitty thing to do to a “much loved” widowed grandmother who is very elderly. What a way to try and sour the end of her reign.

Especially as the book is due out in the Jubilee year.

That's very unfortunate timing.

They've had quite a run of bad luck with timings of things. I hope they will be able to insist that the publication is held until well after the Platinum Jubilee (the first ever of a reigning monarch, assuming she is still alive next year) and as such a moment in history

Baberuthie · 20/07/2021 08:21

Roussette honestly no one in the uk is interested in harry and Meghan anymore. Too much whingeing, too many privileges. It's all tone deaf
The levels of poverty are sky rocketing I'm the uk... people can't afford to buy soap!! Harry needs to let go now and go and use his talents doing something other than beating the royal family down. It's not a good look and by continuing to do that it just reflects badly on him and megan.

Roussette · 20/07/2021 08:22

No probs Shamed No, there wasn't a massive outcry but it was published when it was life without social media, so hardly surprising. I read it once, it dished the dirt on royal practices, but not personal about members of the RF.
She continually blamed the RF, the grey men, and 'The Firm' for all her faux pas

IcedPurple · 20/07/2021 08:22

Are people really still pulling the 'Oh he loves the queen and would never say a word against her' line?

Harry has made a career from criticising the family of which she has been leader for the past 70 years. How is that not deeply hurtful to her? If he loved the queen, he would not behave in such a disrespectful and tacky manner.

Maireas · 20/07/2021 08:23

Wow, @Mummy194, I'd love to read Princess Marie Louise's memoirs of six reigns! I love a good autobiography. I find them fascinating. It very much depends on the approach and the writing style, though.

But who does he get on with? A bunch of slebs who keep loading his ego.
Terhou · 20/07/2021 08:24

I'm going to put money on the book opening with a tearjerking account of his mother's death. He's been fairly blatantly pushing the "son of St Diana" angle ever since he left the country.

Roussette · 20/07/2021 08:25

Baberuthie It's hardly Harry's fault people can't afford to buy soap! Let's blame this shower of a government instead. I'll join any thread doing that.

Many many many people in the UK are still interested in H&M, hence this thread started immediately the announcement of a book was made. Some posters will have withdrawal symptoms if there's nothing to knock this couple with...

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/07/2021 08:25

Some of Queen Victoria's memoirs were also published.

Of course, Harry and QV, what with Harry being "one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time", perfectly comparable situation.

I mean, what has Queen Victoria even done to surpass his journey from prince to husband.

'I've worn many hats over the years literally and figuratively'

Wow, really promises to be a literary heavyweight doesn't if?

I can't wait for the chapter titled 'That time I wore a trilby and acted like one of you commoners for a laugh'.

Baberuthie · 20/07/2021 08:34

Roussette agree with the poster after mine. One trick pony and has been. People have started a thread to Express their disinterest. No one cares anymore.

Roussette · 20/07/2021 08:36

That's ironic. So people have to start a thread saying they aren't interested lolol

If they were really disinterested, they would be ignoring it and not spending time starting threads and posting on it.
