The royal family

To think Prince Harry should give up his titles?

Let’s face it, he has suffered immensely being born into the most famous and privileged family in the world. His titles were bestowed solely due to the family he was born into with the expectation that he would be a ‘working’ member of that family in return for the privilege and unfathomably (to us plebs) luxurious lifestyle he enjoyed (or not as he says now).

He has thankfully escaped his gilded cage and is no longer a working member of the family, in fact he has completely trashed that institution and in doing so also the Head of it, his Grandmother, the Queen while her husband of 73 years was ill in hospital and dying.

As he has suffered so much due to the public interest of his life (interest purely due to his title) by the public and the media so much, shouldn’t he just jack it all in and decree that he is no longer ‘Royal’ by giving up his titles and living quietly in the US with his family?

Starfo actually in America we don't like professional victims either. The only place I read about them is here or Daily mail.

Thedogscollar · 23/06/2021 00:53

@cupcakecourageous

Let's me honest....without his royal titles Meghan wouldn't have looked twice at him.
You have absolutely nothing to back that stupid statement up apart from your own prejudices.
jskei · 23/06/2021 00:55

@1471439310 Quite agree

In fact I think its the DM on Mumsnet stirring the H&M pot every time it goes quiet.

The DM is definately on a mission

Saoirse82 · 23/06/2021 02:27

I agree with @CoolCatTaco!

Guavafish · 23/06/2021 04:13

No

Pixxie7 · 23/06/2021 05:15

I couldn’t care less either way but get annoyed when they continually put themselves in the public eye having claimed their plea for privacy.

Lilibet2022 · 23/06/2021 05:40

I think the met are now investigating.

Given that the police actively told the ladies who the late Prince Phillip crashed into not to tell anyone and I think it was Virginia said she'd reported the Andrew stuff to the British police also (and it was presumably ignored as no one got back to her). I won't hold my breath they'll dare 'take on' a member of the RF this time.

Lilibet2022 · 23/06/2021 05:42

@ChardonnaysPetDragon vanilla is Camilla I think. Either her or Kate.

Lilibet2022 · 23/06/2021 05:53

Let's be honest....without his royal titles Meghan wouldn't have looked twice at him.

You could say the same about any of them though couldn't you? Would Camilla have looked twice at Charles if he wasn't next in line to the throne? Would Kate have not considered other career prospects if William wasn't a Prince and was working double shifts down the local supermarket. Even the York princesses despite technically having their own jobs still married people who'll never have the worry of where their next meal is coming from or if the bank would grant them a mortgage.

Meghan already was getting paid a decent amount whilst working on suits. She didn't need Harry's money.
I think it raises the question that do we still need aristocratic families in the UK who get several homes a piece by accident of birth some of which are left empty half of the year whilst there's people still living in shop doorways.

Mominatrix · 23/06/2021 06:18

I see that the usual suspects are here with their "what about Andrew!!" deflection techniques. Andrew is a slime AND Harry and Meghan mud give up their titles.

Why would they even want them when they stepped down as active Royals, have slung mud at the Institution and the people in it, and seem to be thriving outside of it. Very strange that they would wish to cling on to anachronistic titles which hold no importance in the US, where they have made their home. Oh wait, it is their ticket to opening doors and the thing which makes them better than people who have actually worked their way into their privilege.

Sorry, they sound like winy, spoiled brats.

ScottsThots · 23/06/2021 06:25

No one cares either way. Next 😒

Roussette · 23/06/2021 06:40

do you really think there’s much outrage about Andrew sleeping with 17 years olds?

do you really think that's all there is to it? Bear in mind, Epstein and Maxwell have spent time at Balmoral, Sandringham and Buckingham Palace... all courtesy of Andrew. There's a great pic of Ghislaine Maxwell out there sat in the throne room... on a throne all courtesy of Andrew.

And let's bear in mind she's banged up for procuring girls for Epstein as young as 13.

It's not just a case of Andrew sleeping with a 17 year old, the age of consent is only 17, and this girl was pimped out to him.

Yes, I'm a usual suspect and yes, I will keep bringing up Andrew on royal threads... other posters bring up whatever Royals they like wherever they like. So tough! I want to highlight the unfairness of treatment.

CareBear50 · 23/06/2021 06:41

@Lilibet2022

I think it's strange how Harry and Meghan get all the hate. There's literally a Prince who the FBI would like to talk to over the Epstein stuff who is yet to lose his title...
I agree. I think what Andrew has done is much worse.

However, Andrew isn't plastered over the papers and news every day so he's not front of mind for most people. I definitely think Andrew should face the music, but cannot see it happening any time soon.

As for Harry and Meghan....I'm honestly so sick of hearing about them and allowing them to invade my headspace so much. Wish tge press would simply ignore them.

StayCalmX · 23/06/2021 06:47

Im far more revolted by Andrew obviously but the situations are different. I do want to see the fbi question him but andrew has copped on that if he keeps his head down he wont generate new stories. And this is true. We are all disgusted by him but he in hunkering down in the royal family hiding behind its apron strings.

H&m on the other hand generate new stories every week. And they have left the royal family.

Although i dont think they ever wanted to. I think they thought they had more power than they did but the queen, william and charles saw that it was less embarrassing if they were just allowed to leave

Roussette · 23/06/2021 06:47

However, Andrew isn't plastered over the papers and news every day so he's not front of mind for most people

Yes, and that's sad. The PR machine of the Palace has huge huge reach as I illustrated on the thread about PAndrew. BBC asking journalists not to mention Andrew etc. He is protected. H&M never have been. They are clickbait.

Incidentally, on the subject of bringing up Andrew on threads (I'm a usual suspect!) There's a thread about Charles current at the moment.. Guess how many times M&H are mentioned on it... hundreds.

StayCalmX · 23/06/2021 06:49

If there were a petition to get him to talk to the fbi i would sign it in a heartbeat.

What can we do????

Marmite27 · 23/06/2021 06:57

What did you do yo deserve this title?
No. He could be called Joe Bloggs but we will all still recognise him as HRH Prince Harry.[/quote]
The artist formerly known as Prince Harry?

Frownette · 23/06/2021 06:57

I don't think he can duck it much longer, he's going to have to talk sooner or later

Andrew is a slime @Mominatrix

Understatement of the millennium

SpaceRaiders · 23/06/2021 07:02

What did people expect from the most recognised couple in the entire world, they were hardly going to get jobs in Walmart!

“Pay back the costs of renovations on Frogmore” so they did.

“If you leave, don’t expect to have any of the privileges still afforded to your alleged paedo uncle” so they funded themselves, pretty well by the sounds of it.

“Live your life quietly in the US” they are for the most part, but need to publicise their work in order to earn a living like all other famous people.

H&M couldn’t win if they tried. The goal posts will always keep moving. All this vitriol for a person people know nothing of, do people not realise they are being manipulated?

I’m firmly anti royal, I find all the fawning over a billionaire and her family simply bizarre. Once the queen dies, they should all bugger off, they have enough wealth to live quietly in their mansions for generations to come.

EdithWeston · 23/06/2021 07:05

There is an Andrew thread somewhere - but it keeps going silent, because it seems it's not jus the newspapers who aren't keeping on with it.

And in terms of giving up the titles, he can
He just stops using them, and petitions Parliament to do the necessary to make it permanent.

WinnieTheW0rm · 23/06/2021 07:09

"Pay back the costs of renovations on Frogmore” so they did

Non-working Royals are meant to pay rent, and that rent is meant to be not too far removed from market rent. Are they paying, and how much?

Same question to Prince Andrew - he's not old enough to have retired, so is suspended or sacked?

persnickle · 23/06/2021 07:12

However, Andrew isn't plastered over the papers and news every day so he's not front of mind for most people

That's the point, why isn't he?

persnickle · 23/06/2021 07:13

@SpaceRaiders I agree
