The royal family

I’m in awe of the Queen

I’m no royalist, I dislike the fawning, particularly towards younger members of the family. Somehow I find myself watching Trooping the Colour and I can’t help but be impressed by the Queen.

She’s 95, very recently widowed following 70 odd years of marriage. She’s just got back from Cornwall and is again on active duty, enjoying this event. I know she’s lived an incredibly pampered life with the best health care, etc. I’m just amazed by her sense of duty and her strength.

Hi smilesy

Yes thank you. How kind of you to ask. Smile

Took them about a fortnight to recover from being weakened but the ‘extra ailment’ was fairly fleeting.

I think it was hard for us all but them more so.

I shouldn’t say it but it feels easier again, even though it sometimes isn’t really.

We soldier on. They are cracking on a bit but I’m blessed to have them here. I know that. Even with everything age and life have chosen to deal them.

We are grand. Frazzled sometimes but grand. Bless you x

I didn’t quite know how to put this earlier but I absolutely love seeing a woman of power and an older woman - old, very old.band amongst world leaders. It is so so rare that I momentarily put to one side how she got her power etc etc. Still a remarkable job she’s been doing - she really does kind of keep on going !

smilesy · 12/06/2021 20:59

@SheldonesqueTheBstard. Good to hear x

The bonkers Dougal Grin

And the two ronnies ‘worm that turned’ and Cissie and my spiritual twin Ada.

Good times Grin

Bouledeneige · 12/06/2021 21:13

I've met her I think she's a grumpy unemotional old lady. When did she ever smile?

But yes she's lived a life of duty and loving horses.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 12/06/2021 21:17

she's a grumpy unemotional old lady

Pretty sure I’ve had the same said about me. Grin

I’ll wager HMTQ has not been called a gobshite though.

So I win Wink

esterwin · 12/06/2021 21:26

I wish her no harm, but do not see her as a role model. She was a very distant mother to Charles, amybe to other children as well? But has protected Andrew.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 12/06/2021 21:28

I was amazed at 95 she could stand for sunch a long time during the trooping of the colour. He cousin next to her was much more unsteady walking with a cane at the end.

esterwin · 12/06/2021 21:30

So what people admire is that she has such good health?
Does that mean you dont admire Charles who obviously has issues with his health?

I don't think she stood all of the time, but she was taught a long time ago that if you have to stand for long you don't keep your feet together, you put your feet apart a little. Watch her next time she's standing and ask a soldier about standing at ease as opposed to standing to attention. Duke of Kent didn't look as spry as he did the day he got married! He had a stroke a few years ago. He certainly looked as if his knees aren't what they were - not the only one.

Is that an achievement- to be healthier than your cousin? Please let's not judge people for not having the good fortune to be physically robust.
SciFiScream · 12/06/2021 21:56

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Don’t feel you have to be taken aback on my account roussette

I would do it for any member of society but my oath runs to my core.

Ditto. My oath is very meaningful to me.
SciFiScream · 12/06/2021 22:00

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

I’m a stubborn contrary bugger with many, many flaws roussette.

The only constants for me really are that I will never just stand by and my word is absolutely my bond.

I want better qualities and fail miserably mostly but I keep trying. Smile

However the two above have stood me in good stead so if that is all I manage consistently I’ll take it Wink

I will never stand by either. Ever. I've waded into many a situation. My word is my bond too.

Military service does that to you I think.

Another motto I live my life by is the one from RMAS. "Serve to lead". I do this every day.

Now my service to the country is in the form of charity work.

HRH is a wonderful role model. We'll no see the like o' her agin.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 12/06/2021 22:23

She's a canny operator, I think. Phlegmatic too, which is probably why she has been able to carry on for so long.

In a strange way she gives the impression of being less traditional in her outlook - as far as it is possible to judge as an observer - than, say, the Duchess of Cambridge. Some of that might be the role she has been required to occupy.

She hasn't turned me into a royalist, though.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 12/06/2021 22:25

We'll no see the like o' her agin.

We will not.

lollipoprainbow · 12/06/2021 23:00

I thought she looked lovely today so relaxed and happy.

HeronLanyon · 12/06/2021 23:15

She is back in Cornwall tonight. For god sakes her last few days have been unbelievable.

Sylvan92 · 12/06/2021 23:29

Yes she did.
CommanderBurnham · 12/06/2021 23:38

She is absolutely amazing, but I really hope that she takes time for herself, and puts herself first.

I often hope she tucks herself up sometimes with some knitting and Netflix, or eats a whole box of chocolates.

She should be pampered and cuddled.

StormzyinaTCup · 13/06/2021 00:28

She is like a Duracell bunny!!
I'm half her age and that timetable exhausts me reading it, just the travelling can be tiring without having to be meeting and greeting as well. I hope she has taken a comfy pair of slippers with her.

esterwin · 13/06/2021 00:35

So standing for longer than most 95 year olds can manage and looking cheerful. That sums up this thread.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 13/06/2021 01:11

I like her for being professional for 68 years, I like it when she puts pompous people down (hello Bush and Trump), I like how her and Anne are straight talking Grin She’s the boss and a rare female on the international stage, holds her own without being able to speak about politics publicly. I don’t like the institution but she’s done a bloody good job pretty much. Plus H&M are fans so she’s probably not the racist one (low bar). I’d have a tea with her :)

Furries · 13/06/2021 02:26

I’m very much take it or leave it re the royal family in general.

But there is something about HMQ that just gets me. Yes, she’s had a life of huge privilege compared to most. But, equally, it’s been a life of constraint for her.

I agree with many other posters who say that we won’t have a reigning monarch like her for a long time.

Part of me would like her to hand over the reins so that she can just relax for a while, but her sense of duty will never allow that.

Roussette · 13/06/2021 07:16

She is back in Cornwall tonight

Gosh, is she? I thought she was back in Windsor Castle because she's weloming Joe and Jill Biden to the castle today.
I bet it's such a relief after Trump walking in front of her when inspecting the Guards! That was classic with her trying to shepherd him the right way. Grin

Samcro · 13/06/2021 08:03

just been on the news, she is seeing them at Windsor.
