The royal family

I’m in awe of the Queen

I’m no royalist, I dislike the fawning, particularly towards younger members of the family. Somehow I find myself watching Trooping the Colour and I can’t help but be impressed by the Queen.

She’s 95, very recently widowed following 70 odd years of marriage. She’s just got back from Cornwall and is again on active duty, enjoying this event. I know she’s lived an incredibly pampered life with the best health care, etc. I’m just amazed by her sense of duty and her strength.

Those of us in the UK are all extremely fortunate to be living in a first world country with good education, a high employment rate (but if unemployed we have access to public funds to house and feed our families) we have excellent free medical care. We are rich and privileged (by the worlds standards).

It's not just the queen who's privileged.

Yes, but queen is in her 90s remember- you can have no concept of post war deprivation in Glasgow- generations were permenantly stunted and that massive social inequality impactd the next generation and continues today and is reflected in life expectancy.

Unfortunately her health is out of reach of us mere mortals

It isn’t. My dad was 99 when he died - just as healthy as the Queen - and he was a miners’s son, grew up during the depression and fought in a world war.

I do think the Queen is blessed with good genes - although of course, her father and sister died young. Her mother lived to over 100.

agree.

Her father and sister were both heavy smokers and that played a part in their (relatively) early deaths. The Queen mother seems to have enjoyed a tipple but I don’t think she or the Queen smoked.
So, based on this small royal sample, stop smoking but keep drinking.
