Harry to sue BBC

I just read Harry is going to sue the BBC for announcing the Queen wasn't consulted over the name Lilibet. They said she was told of their plans . Maybe told isnt quite the same as consulted. When is this all going to end. Seems to be getting worse instead of improving.

Okay, so the Queen disagrees about whether she was told or asked and feels the right thing to do is get courtiers to leak to the press that Harry is lying when he says she was consulted.

antsy · 09/06/2021 13:20

And earlier press stories said that the Queen felt she had no choice but to agree as she was worried about widening the rift. I suspect that is the truth. But she is behaving disgracefully now.

DogsSausages · 09/06/2021 13:20

Was she asked or told what they planned to do. Was she told/asked before or after the birth, pretty unlikely she would have said no after the event, poor Queen.

Ok, have now read the Mail story. It's going to be one of those 'recollections may vary' events. This is the key bit for me:

Notice of the legal action was followed by a carefully-worded statement that raised more questions than answers over whether the Queen did give permission or if the couple simply informed her of their intentions in a faitaccompli.

So the BBC report suggests a source said she was told, not asked, about the name. Omid Scobie has said they wouldn't have done it without her support. Whether she overtly gave that support, or just didn't tell them she wasn't keen, is another question.

Either way, though, can't see how legal action benefits anyone. Harry will have no money left at this rate.

The thing is, the palace and the RF, are very clearly doing a blanket non-committal “mmhmm” answer to everything Harry says. Like grey rock but more grey marshmallow, and Harry doesn’t seem to understand he is now being “handled” like the UXB he now is.
antsy · 09/06/2021 13:23

No, the Royal Family think it is fine to trash another member of the family in public just to keep gazes away from Andrew and his wrongdoings.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 09/06/2021 13:25

I’ll give them their dues. For all their angst regarding the firm and the press, they seem to be doing their damnedest to be bedfellows with both by fair means and foul.

It always seem to be petted lip time with him.

Away and live your best lives. Do your best work. But break the ties now.

You are coming across as a couple of liggers.

Well the rift is cracking wide open again. Quite an achievement less than 7 days after birth.

Timetopoeet · 09/06/2021 13:26

I'm not sure, it's seems sad that the baby has been named after someone she'll most likely barely ever see in her life.

IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld · 09/06/2021 13:26

@randomkey123

He and Meghan could start an argument in an empty room and sue it.

Too much money on their hands and too much time.

Agreed.

bluebell34567 · 09/06/2021 13:26

the RF will say recollections may vary.

1forAll74 · 09/06/2021 13:27

They should have named the new baby daughter SUE, It would have been very appropriate. They would probably sue their window cleaners, if they so much as looked through one.

Perhaps she’s had enough of Harry being able to say whatever the fuck he likes about her family safe in the knowledge they will never respond and she’s decided she’s had it with the bullshit and ‘Harry’s truth’ so she’s decided to share HER truth for once by letting it be known she was not in fact asked.

While her actual living grandmother, who lives nearby and sees her all the time, didn't get a look in in the naming process. Poor Doria.

Disappointed that the BBC are reporting gossip but I also think there's every chance this is true and the Queen was told rather than asked. I think H and M are getting harder and harder to defend. This is an interesting time for the royals. A transition. It's like the monarchy is being brought down from within. I'm not a royalist but I didn't want to see it go like this. I reckon after Charles, it will be slowly and quietly dismantled. What young, modern person would want that life?

EvilPea · 09/06/2021 13:30

This seems to be how they operate now, threaten everyone so no one talks or writes about them.

Which is all well and good, and actually i think a lot of people would be happy for them to have that privacy. IF they didnt court it for themselves and for things they want publicity for.

You can't have "your truth" and deny others theirs.

That what you take from all this? That senior career courtiers are compulsive fibbers? 🤨

Is the Mail still appealing the copyright/privacy case that Meghan won (re her letter)? If that case is still 'live', well, that's interesting.

ACPC · 09/06/2021 13:31

Oh and I agree this is another distraction from Andrew.Hmm

Funny how no one said “poor Carole” when Princess Charlotte had Elizabeth and Diana in her name too, wasn’t it?

Courtiers report what the family tell them to say. That is how it works.

@Viviennemary

Its time they stopped milking their royal connections at every single step of the way. . Even the name Lilibet Diana was registered as a brand the day after the babys birth. Allegedly. Grim and grimmer.
WTF! Really?

I don't really care, they each have their own demons and are probably each others current best support. But, as with say the Beckhams, that seems really weird to me - commodification of your own kids!

Though I suppose they'll explain it as being protective, preventative!
