Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
Benjispruce3 · 06/06/2021 17:35

No offence meant. I used it as in it’s a baby. That easily offended normally?

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:35

I’m surprised they didn’t call her Her Tiny Majesty Princess Lilibet Diana Spencer of all of the world!!

Me too! I really thought they would go with this option.

JudgeJ · 06/06/2021 17:35

@MagicSummer

Oh God the papers are going to be full of this for days and days to come. Hope she doesn't have another.
At least we'll be spared photos though.
shortsaint · 06/06/2021 17:35

I'll be slated but give the child a proper name and then use the nickname privately. Lillibet is a diminutive (and yeuch as an adult). Use Lily or Elizabeth.

Gameofbones · 06/06/2021 17:35

I love Lilibet as a name. In fact I’ve liked it as a name after hearing it some years ago. I think an ex-nanny wrote a book about it? Agree they have done it to subtly remind us all that they are in fact related to HMQ. But I did read somewhere that the Queen approves the names before announced. Assuming not this one though.

ApplyWithin · 06/06/2021 17:35

I tell you what, they sure know how to up the ante each time.

You know the expression “you couldn’t make it up”? Never truer.

Did they actually do that with straight faces?

Wolfiefan · 06/06/2021 17:35

Glad their daughter has arrived safely. Who wouldn’t wish that for anyone.
But yes I flinched too. The use of the pet name does seem crass. Hope this doesn’t cause more family drama.

SnottyLottie · 06/06/2021 17:36

I’m personally not fond of name Lilibet. I get the significance of it being the Queen’s nickname but it just sounds made up to me. I would have preferred just plain Lillie or maybe Eliza/Libby/Beth if they wanted to pay tribute to the Queen.

Diana was the obvious choice of a middle name. Very safe but very sweet.

Archie & Lili make a very sweet sibset. Lilibet might have gone better with Archibald but I remember them saying that Archibald wasn’t their style.

Congratulations to them regardless!

Loopylobes · 06/06/2021 17:36

Everyone can we just take a pause because @Loopylobes flinched!!!

Why? Confused

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 06/06/2021 17:36

However, the name? This is straight up gaslighting.

Madness. :o

This is just pure, madness.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:36

I doubt we'll find Catherine on here whining that her SIL has stolen her child's names though.

?

Wanttocry · 06/06/2021 17:36

@YellowMonday

I'm happy mum and bub are well.

However, the name? This is straight up gaslighting. Using the private family nickname to keep their "royal" relevance for merching is a disgrace. Why not Lilli or Elizabeth?

That is not what gaslighting means.
dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:37

@Loopylobes precisely! no one cares that you flinched.

Normando91 · 06/06/2021 17:37

I’m sure either of them really give a stuff what you lot think of their choice of name for their daughter.

Knew before even coming onto MN that people would be criticising them for their choice of name. Really they could have named her absolutely anything and you’d still have people moaning 🙄

Congratulations to the couple and their lovely new arrival.

CokeDrinker · 06/06/2021 17:37

What a sweet name, and touching tribute to both the Queen and Diana. No doubt though the haters will find something wrong with it.

OverByYer · 06/06/2021 17:38

I think Lilly or Elizabeth would have been better.
Lillibet is pretty but it’s not a proper name and smacks of trying to keep favour with HMQ after they have slagged her and the RF off.
I hope they will be happy

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/06/2021 17:38
@osbertthesyrianhamster I can't give you money but can provide some telephone numbers.
I need a new mobile, you can help. Grin That'll definitely make me ok.

SunshineCake · 06/06/2021 17:38

@Pieceofpurplesky

Lovely name and Harry had previously said Lily was his favourite name. It clearly states in the statement that she is to be known as Lily.

It must be hard to carry round as much hate as some people on here do. It's a baby

No one has issues with the baby.

H and M get a lot of flack as they have behaved appallingly.

Yesterday it was announced that the baby was due on Philips birthday yet she had already been born.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:38

This is just pure, madness.

I like MNs but this thread has some much bile on it. It's embarrassing.

fakeplantsdontlookreal · 06/06/2021 17:38

I hope they got the Queen's approval seeing as it was her private family nickname. I feel a bit sorry for her if not.

I thought they might have done a Katie Price and called her Princess, just to be sure she got that in her name Grin

MrsIsobelCrawley · 06/06/2021 17:39

@Pasithea

Insult. Really.
What a joy you are, Pasithea!
grapewine · 06/06/2021 17:39

@osbertthesyrianhamster

Wants to make sure she doesn't strip the duchess titles and cut him out of her will. What a chap!
That's totally what I thought. But I'm a cynic.
Port1aCastis · 06/06/2021 17:39

Totally agree with BIWI

The haters will hate any name and will carp on about the new baby's name 24/7 for the next couple of weeks plus trawl the net for negative comments and c&p them to this site

Benjispruce3 · 06/06/2021 17:40

No I’d just woken up actually. Had no idea their baby was even due. The thread doesn’t say royal baby born but that they’ve named it. I thought it was an announcement of name as some fo prior to birth if they know the sex. No interest in insulting an innocent.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:40

That'll definitely make me ok.

If only it could but you're way beyond that. 😝
