Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
Sparrowsong · 06/06/2021 17:31

Lovely name and congrats to them both!

Some dreadfully bitter nasty people on here though.

Yubaba · 06/06/2021 17:31

Lilibet is a terrible name, lily is much nicer. There are much nicer diminutives of Elizabeth, but congratulations on the safe arrival of their baby.

fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 17:31

Haters would have found something to complain about whatever the name.

MagicSummer · 06/06/2021 17:31

Oh God the papers are going to be full of this for days and days to come. Hope she doesn't have another.

Abricot1993 · 06/06/2021 17:31

They caused a lot of grief and embarrassment for his grandmother/her grandmother-in-law at a time when her husband was dying. Words that can now not be unsaid by naming their daughter after her.

quiteathome · 06/06/2021 17:31

Unsure about the name. Fine for a baby but one day she will be a grown woman. It does not seem like an adults name.

Lili is pretty.

BlueDucky · 06/06/2021 17:31

Aw how lovely

Confusedandshaken · 06/06/2021 17:31

That's a lovely name.

Benjispruce3 · 06/06/2021 17:31

Condolences to my parents? Eh? Think you may have confused me with someone else. I like the names, had no idea the birth had been announced or that it was due. Sorry!

Andylion · 06/06/2021 17:32

To me it feels a bit of encroached to use someone else's pet name as a given name especially when you've been publicly at odds with that person's way of life and critical of the establishment they've dedicated their whole life to.

Perhaps they asked HMQ if she minded, otherwise it does seem a bit presumptuous. It also seems to indicate the intimacy of being in the inner circle of the RF, when they have been so critical of it.

I have not expressed this well at all.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:32

However, I did flinch instinctively

Everyone can we just take a pause because @Loopylobes flinched!!! 🤣🤣

YellowMonday · 06/06/2021 17:32

I'm happy mum and bub are well.

However, the name? This is straight up gaslighting. Using the private family nickname to keep their "royal" relevance for merching is a disgrace. Why not Lilli or Elizabeth?

Norabatty40 · 06/06/2021 17:32

Oh my..they didnt do that? Diana yes but..

Why oh why choose a name with so much connotation..

cringing

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/06/2021 17:32
@osbertthesyrianhamster are you ok?
Actually, since you asked, I'm not ok for money. I'd be happy to accept your contribution since you expressed concern for my well-being Grin.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/06/2021 17:33

@Benjispruce3
The use of the word 'it'

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:33

@Benjispruce3 apologies I think the other poster & myself assumed you were referring to the baby as an "it" as an insult.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/06/2021 17:33

I saw the title of this thread and thought it was more meanness directed at Meghan and Harry. I can’t believe it’s what they have actually called their daughter!

JudgeJ · 06/06/2021 17:33

@boomwhacker

It's not that far removed from Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. I think in normal circles it would be considered a bit strange to name your child in such a similar way as her cousin. I find the choice a bit crass to be honest.
I doubt we'll find Catherine on here whining that her SIL has stolen her child's names though.
ApplyWithin · 06/06/2021 17:33

Yes, “on the nose” was what I was thinking. I’m surprised they didn’t call her Her Tiny Majesty Princess Lilibet Diana Spencer of all of the world!!

The way they have disrespected the Queen in recent months though. The name is a form of gaslighting.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/06/2021 17:33

And of course you knew the baby had been born - you are posting in a thread about it Hmm

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:34

@osbertthesyrianhamster I can't give you money but can provide some telephone numbers.

Chewbecca · 06/06/2021 17:34

I think Lillibet is a really nice name.

Whether it is respectful or disrespectful depends entirely on whether they have the Queen’s blessing or not.

Laiste · 06/06/2021 17:34

I have to hand it to them, they always manage to go one step further than you think they will.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 06/06/2021 17:34

@StarryStarrySocks

What a pair of twats. If you want a Lily, use Lily, don't make a nickname from something that was already a nickname.
Are you ok hun?
Pieceofpurplesky · 06/06/2021 17:34

It being the birth not the baby!
