Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

Too twee, sounds more like a nickname

Bananahana · 06/06/2021 17:27

Best tribute to the Queen would be respecting the institution and stop attacking it (and I say this as a staunch republican!)

Gawd, yes, I care very much about Jason Momoa because he's just so hot, about Boris Johnson further screwing people over (isn't the tagging feature on MN so fucking annoying? I have it linked to my spam folder, is there a way to turn it off entirely).

@Lesartisansetlessansculottes

I think the name Lillibet is awful. It's the "bet" at the end. I think that's just me though, I speak French and it sounds like the word for stupid or beast! Nice that they used Diana. Hopefully they'll call her Lilli.
it really doesn't.

Pretty sure the French pronounce "Elizabeth" (common name in France) in the same way.

Covidatemyhomework · 06/06/2021 17:28

^^Monkeytennis97

It feels.... awkward^^

Completely agree.

zoemum2006 · 06/06/2021 17:28

Lovely name. So nice to honour her grandmother and great-grandmother.

Modern and traditional at the same time. Fab.

Haydugi · 06/06/2021 17:28

Elizabeth would have been more appropriate IMO, baby could then have been Lilli to family and friends.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 17:28

@osbertthesyrianhamster are you ok?

Benjispruce3 · 06/06/2021 17:28

@Pieceofpurplesky vile? I asked a question. I had no idea it had been born or clue of due dates. Thought they might be announcing the name before birth as many do.Not sure why that’s a vile post.Hmm

Chickychickydodah · 06/06/2021 17:28

It’s a nice name but after slagging everyone off it doesn’t seem right 🤷‍♀️

NoNever · 06/06/2021 17:29

It’s a pretty name.

It’s also an obvious ploy to suck up to the Queen after denouncing her as a crappy mother and head of a racist institution who didn’t care if Meghan committed suicide while pregnant.

waltzingparrot · 06/06/2021 17:29

Bet there'll be thousands of Lilibets born this year now. I suppppppose The Queen will be ok with her special name being popularised.

ThursdayWeld · 06/06/2021 17:29

I think that's lovely Grin

VinylCafe · 06/06/2021 17:29

@BillieSpain

Oh so horrendously manipulative and hypocrtical, it is quite unbelievable.

I can't believe it's true.

I agree. Attention seeking as well. But it's to be expected...
Fuckingcrustybread · 06/06/2021 17:29

It's going to be a bit strange a child known as Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Mountbatten-Windsor

Susie477 · 06/06/2021 17:29

Utterly shameless and completely crass.

H&M lined their pockets by slagging off the royal family on American TV then they try to suck up to the Queen by ‘borrowing’ her childhood nickname in a desperate attempt to hang onto their HRH titles. I hope she strips the titles anyway.

thecognoscenti · 06/06/2021 17:29

I think it's a bit too personal. Like, here's a reminder that we're related to the Queen. Don't forget that! Without that connection, they'd be a middling soap actress and an ex-squaddie. Lily is nice and they could just have gone with that, but no, got to crowbar the royal reference in there.

Actually that is a good point too! Although he hasn't slagged his mother off. He did moan about the Queen not answering his call, though Hmm

Is this real?
VinylCafe · 06/06/2021 17:30

@toffeebutterpopcorn

My sisters pet name was Bill...
GrinGrinGrin

My wonderful MIL's nickname was Ken.

Loopylobes · 06/06/2021 17:30

I'm generally one not to pass comment and see this as a family's private business about which we aren't informed enough to pass comment.

However, I did flinch instinctively when my DD1 told me the name. Unless they ran this by his grandmother first, it feels crass and could be rather upsetting.

wildthingsinthenight · 06/06/2021 17:30

It's lovely. Congratulations to them.

The haters on here are unbelievable.

I am actually thinking that too, now Grin

It's a bit "on the nose", as they say in literary/drama circles.
