Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
CandyLeBonBon · 06/06/2021 20:47

This thread is utterly bonkers! I really cannot get my head around the sense of ownership some people seem to have about these individuals.

It's obsessive and a little unhinged. Confused

Rosebanks · 06/06/2021 20:47

Harry and Megan, the gift that keeps on giving. I love it Grin

On one hand the Royal Family is an awful racist institution that practically drove poor Megan to suicide, destroyed Harry's mental health and left him so scarred by 'genetic pain' (wtaf?) that he had to flee to the other side of the Atlantic to escape their clutches, and pop up endless on TV, podcasts, in fact pretty much anywhere that would have him to publicly destroy them.

On the other hand.... we love granny soooo much we are naming our kid after her.

If this was a film script it would be canned for being too far fetched.

It's funny though. I'd love to be a fly on the wall chez the Cambridges this evening.

fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 20:47

Pretty sure it would come as a painful surprise for the Queen to realise how many posters know the intricacy and personal details of her private life and private conversations.

Even if they are "shocked, fuming and outraged on her behalf". Grin

ArmoireArmy · 06/06/2021 20:47

@CokeDrinker would argue with the wall. For anyone who has the misfortune of being replied to by them I would suggest you laugh and ignore! GrinConfusedWink

midsomermurderess · 06/06/2021 20:48

fucking hilarious, pattilou? You don't sound remotely amused. Quite the opposite.

Pyewackect · 06/06/2021 20:48

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Sucking up after their faux pas?
Too late.
MaMelon · 06/06/2021 20:48

People Commonwealth-wide were saying it should skip Charles and go straight to William, and her own Courtiers knew this

And people Commonwealth-wide were also not saying that.

oneglassandpuzzled · 06/06/2021 20:48

She could not have done this as it is not in her power. That’s not how the law works in Britain.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 06/06/2021 20:48

“ People Commonwealth-wide were saying it should skip Charles and go straight to William, and her own Courtiers knew this. She could have easily opted for generational change and that would have been supported by a majority of Monarchists. But no she personally opted for Charles.”

This is what I mean by not understanding the British constitutional setup btw. Perhaps you are British, I don’t know. But if you think this was in any way possible then I’m sorry but you’re deluded.

(It’s also wildly off topic).

CokeDrinker · 06/06/2021 20:49
@dorangme it’s not his name, his name is Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex. He could have named his children Windsor or Mountbatten-Windsor
Grin Here you go again. You are so deeply misinformed, @ArmoireArmy . Mountbatten-Windsor IS Harry's real actual name. Please check the facts before posting as you have a habit of embarrassing yourself.

Happymum12345 · 06/06/2021 20:49

Lovely names!

BreakingtheIce · 06/06/2021 20:50

@dorangme

If the Queen can get over Andrews's friendship with a nonce & Charles talking about his emotionally distanced childhood plus tampexgate I think the she will be ok with the name thing.
I should think all of it makes her very sad.
MaMelon · 06/06/2021 20:50

Rosebanks absolutely agree Grin H & M certainly know how to stir the pot!

dorangme · 06/06/2021 20:50

He could have named his children Windsor or Mountbatten-Windsor

And he chose the latter option & the poster I originally replied to somehow thought that was fucking audacious so what's your point?

mathanxiety · 06/06/2021 20:51

...it’s not his name, his name is Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Sussex. He could have named his children Windsor or Mountbatten-Windsor

Perhaps those upset that Harry uses the surname Mountbatten-Windsor should consider how that surname came about. The late lamented Duke of Edinburgh fought long and hard to have his chosen surname 'Mountbatten' bestowed on his children. He famously declared he was nothing but a 'bloody amoeba', the only man in England who wasn't allowed to give his children his surname. A compromise was reached.

I understand very well, hence my comment. It was indeed possible for her to recommend William. This has been widely reported in the BBC and other respected news sources. I'd check your facts if I were you before calling others deluded. You will find that I'm correct.
Blossomtoes · 06/06/2021 20:51

Charles doesn't take his calls. Wtf does he expect?

Would you take someone’s calls if they’d publicly whinged that you’d cut them off without a penny and were a shit parent? I wouldn’t.

ArmoireArmy · 06/06/2021 20:51

I know The Duke having pancreatic cancer to be true, everyone on fleet street knew. I don’t reveal my sources though so you might actually have to use google Shock

ArmoireArmy · 06/06/2021 20:51

@Cokedrinker ^

Roussette · 06/06/2021 20:52

Sigh.

Mountbatten-Windsor was decided as a surname by Queen and PP in 1960 should this sort of occasion arise. It was a surname that the Queen said should be used when any members of the RF needed a surname.

This below is from .royal.uk, the official Royal website.

The Royal Family name of Windsor was confirmed by The Queen after her accession in 1952. ... The effect of the declaration was that all The Queen's children, on occasions when they needed a surname, would have the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

So Harry does not have to become Henry Smith. Grin

As a parent, yes, I would and I'd reflect on why my child might feel like that. That's what any decent parent would do. Even if you don't personally believe you did anything wrong, surely you try and understand why your child feels like that?

I wouldn't cut my own child off for that.

mathanxiety · 06/06/2021 20:55

I’m not saying Britain isn’t racist and doesn’t have a massive racist history btw. Just that I think a lot of US people lack the context to understand the dynamics here and their contributions to the conversation aren’t actually helpful as a result.

Are you talking about a special, British form of racism, @SimonedeBeauvoirscat?

Serenster · 06/06/2021 20:55

Not true, CokeDrinker. Harry was enrolled at Eton and was in the Army as Harry Wales, not Harry Mountbatten Windsor. As a Prince, he doesn’t actually have a formal last name.
