Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
diamondpony80 · 06/06/2021 20:01

They want to honor the queen now? Pity they couldn't do that a few months ago by keeping their mouths shut and getting on with their lives rather than telling tales to Oprah. I think it's highly disrespectful to use the queen's nickname and I doubt they discussed it with her beforehand. They do whatever they think will further their own cause and it's clear they're just trying to endear themselves to the public after the Oprah fiasco. I like the name - it's just not appropriate to use it after how they've behaved.

Quaggars · 06/06/2021 20:01

If people dislike them so much, why do they give them head space

Because they're over-invested and just as obsessed as those who camp outside overnight/scream and cry at public figures that they love them, just at the opposite end of the spectrum.
It genuinely fascinates me lol, it's utterly bizarre to see.

PetuniaPot · 06/06/2021 20:02

Bobuff is not that far from Beth. You can see how with lots of young siblings these diminutives came about!

Bloodypunkrockers · 06/06/2021 20:03

@Samcro

I find it so bizarre how invested some people are with their ranting hate. Calling them vile and stuff like that. If people dislike them so much, why do they give them head space. Very strange.
I'm picturing the kind of people who dress up in red white and blue and hang around Windsor.

You know, the kind they show on the news

The rational people, with full and useful lives Grin

jasjas1973 · 06/06/2021 20:03

A lot of people on here not only know Harry and Meghan but are also on first name terms with Lizzie too.

Amazing there is such hatred for people who you only know through whichever newspapers or TV programmes you subscribe too.

Very sad and depressing.

SueSaid · 06/06/2021 20:05

'They want to honor the queen now? Pity they couldn't do that a few months ago by keeping their mouths shut and getting on with their lives rather than telling tales to Oprah'

Yes. Criticise and attack one minute, honour them the next. Batshittery of the highest order.

Blossomtoes · 06/06/2021 20:05

What has happened to Mumsnet over the last few days

Nothing. It’s always been the same.

MrsWarleggan · 06/06/2021 20:06

@Roussette

She definitely does... Well, she did.... Maybe MM used some evil nasty witchcraft to convince her she didn't have to 🙄

Veterinari · 06/06/2021 20:06

@toffeebutterpopcorn

It’s not a name though - the queens pet name. Maybe trying to appease grandma?
I know someone who's actual name is lilibet so I don't think that is correct Also from a family with German ancestry FWIW
mam0918 · 06/06/2021 20:06

littlepattilou - I suggest a hobby so you have less time to focus on harry and meghan and a therepist for your anger issues... you'll probably feel a lot better afterwards

AllOptionsAreOnTheTable · 06/06/2021 20:06

I agree. When I saw the first thread I thought it was a joke or speculation on the possible name. I didn’t think even they would be so crass. Unless of course they have the queen’s full approval but I doubt it.

And your evidence for that doubt is what exactly? Or dont you have any?

Serenster · 06/06/2021 20:07

I don’t mind Lili at all and think it goes nicely with Archie as a sibling name. I also am not at all surprised about Diana being included - that’s an entirely normal sentimental tribute on the part of both brothers. And loads of the Queen’s granddaughters and great granddaughters have Elizabeth as a middle name (Charlotte, Louise, Beatrice, Lena…).

I did laugh out loud when I heard the full name though. It is a little bit on the nose. But then, as I am sure they would have told us themselves, there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the name ‘Lilibet’ overseas. Or, indeed, the name Lilibet is universal.

quizqueen · 06/06/2021 20:09

Insult your grandmother, then name your child after her. That's one mixed up family over the pond!

littlepattilou · 06/06/2021 20:09

Sickening isn't it?!
PresentingPercy · 06/06/2021 20:09

Where is Doria honoured in all of this? No honouring a black woman. It’s all white.

Nocutenamesleft · 06/06/2021 20:09

Ooh no. I don’t like lilybet

I love the Diana reference. I love Lilly. But not lilybet

dorangme · 06/06/2021 20:10

If so, she was happy with it, so all the bitchiness on this thread is completely pointless

I think that's irrelevant because the bitchiness just makes them feel better.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 06/06/2021 20:10

Oh this has to be a joke.
SionnachRua · 06/06/2021 20:11

I think it's a nice name. As for the comments about ignoring Doria - well, Doria gets to have a relationship with this child and Diana doesn't. So I imagine Doria is happy with her lot and would rather not be in Diana's shoes.

SenecaFallsRedux · 06/06/2021 20:11

To the people who keep saying that Philip was the last person to call the Queen "Lilibet", what do you think Sarah Chatto and David Snowden call her? Auntie Queen, perhaps?

Frezia · 06/06/2021 20:11

This thread is comedy gold Grin

fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 20:11

They could have called her Olivia, and we still would have 30 pages of angry rants about what a disrespectful disgrace bringing an end to the Monarchy they are Grin

dorangme · 06/06/2021 20:12

Well except for the mixed heritage baby but don't let that stop you.

Lilly is a popular name but Lillibet isn't but. So it's a twist

Like how the name nods to The Queen and Diana

It's not a nod. Lilibet isn't a name in its own right; its specific to the Queen.

I agree with a pp; it's a bit predictable and also a bit try hard. But a nice enough name.

I guess they had to have Diana in there, and rightly so. I just think with all the drama surrounding them and the rest of the Royals this doesn't sit particularly well.

But, nothing to do with me, I know they couldn't give two hoots what I think. Congrats to them.

MrsMiddleMother · 06/06/2021 20:12

Adorable!
