Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
Shehasadiamondinthesky · 06/06/2021 19:56

I should think their venom is pretty exhausting for the royal family.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 06/06/2021 19:56

I was very surprised by the name choice.

Lily would have been lovely.

And my understanding is that Philip was the last person who used that name.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 19:56

Just possible that Harry ran this by his grandmother and got her approval. She may even be touched. Just a thought, though probably not as much fun for some people as being filled with negativity and spite Exactly!

I said this a couple of times. She could be over the moon, but hey... when it's H&M we have to assume The Very Worst Scenario Ever. 'Tis Law
Grin

Roussette

What's the matter with Rose?

It's the name of the friend William was rumoured to have an affair with!
Regardless of how true/untrue it was, in the current context it would have been a poor choice from his brother.

brightwave · 06/06/2021 19:57

How do people have the energy to get so worked up about them? A babys name is not the huge deal many posters are making it out to be.

SnottyLottie · 06/06/2021 19:57

I think people are allowed to express interest and their opinions on a name, especially when the parents of said child are in the public eye and have made a public announcement of the name.

It’s not the worst name in the world but it’s definitely not my style or to my taste. To my ears, it sounds slightly made up (I know it’s actually a real name) and very clunky, fuddy-duddy and cloyingly sweet. I personally would have preferred plain Lily (especially as Archie is a nickname and they plan to call her Lili in private) or Eliza, but others would probably say that’s boring, unoriginal or still sucking up to grandma.

However, at the end of the day, they are her parents and they have chosen this name. I’m sure they don't care what the general public think of their choice.

We can all express our opinions and critique choices so long as we are polite in doing so. I let slip my son’s name on here once and got blasted for it 😬…so is life 😆

'Well, get angry all you like, but that is Prince Henry's actual surname': post of the thread, right there. Jeez, the full-on frothing going on here is a sight to see.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 19:58

fashionable I did wonder at that... but thought it was a bit of a stretch!

PetuniaPot · 06/06/2021 19:58

Given recent circumstances it seems a bit of a family burden imho. Which is ironic.
I would have just gone with Lily/Lili. And mentioned the inspiration of grandma's pet name while visiting.😏

fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 19:58

Shock Horror, Harry doesn't hate his grand-mother. How dare he.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 06/06/2021 19:58

@goldfinchfan

It must be for the moeny they want to inherit in the will when the Queen dies........they are CF's.... It is the Queens special name and they have spent so much time slagging off her family. This doesn't sit comfortably IMO.

It was a given to use Diana and fair enough but why this pretense of respect for the Queen.

I hope someone asks them this question.

I hope they tell whoever asks to mind their own fucking business.
BreakingtheIce · 06/06/2021 19:58

@ArmoireArmy

The Queen has just lost the last person that called her Lilibet. She was already feeling lost without Prince Philip by her side. She's been attacked, beloved members of her family have been attacked, the institution that she's spent her life serving has been attacked, her beloved Commonwealth has been attacked, and now she finds out that the ones trying to destroy her legacy have stolen the name that's unique to her, the one that she will never hear towards herself again, to give to a child of those that have hurt her in a myriad of different ways? They just announced that the baby was due on Philip's 100th birthday (Baby was born on the 4th, they announced on the 5th she was due on Philip’s 100th Birthday Hmm ) to push that into the news, to remind the Queen yet again that her soulmate is gone, and then they take the name he used for her in private? I can't even imagine how she must be feeling right now. That isn't just upsetting. That's nothing short of a slap in the face and another misery to put her through.

You just give birth. You don't announce it. But you make sure to send out PR to drum up attention for your announcement by linking your birth to a dead man that you attacked. Then you announce the baby after getting that attention out there in the news. Is that the sign of loving, happy parents, or the sign of parents that see their child as nothing but a PR or bargaining chip? Because I know where my money is.

The pair are totally revolting IMO

Agree with every word.
C130 · 06/06/2021 19:58

Lovely name. If I was the Queen I would be delighted with it.

Andylion · 06/06/2021 19:58

@ladygindiva

Lilibet is cute, as the queen's nickname. As an aside, I'm also an Elizabeth and my elder brother, 2 when I was born, couldn't say my name and called me Bobuff, which stuck as a nickname for a while. I wish he'd managed Lilibet, it's much nicer 😂
Anyone else wish that the Queen's nickname was Bobuff? 😁
PetuniaPot · 06/06/2021 19:58

Sorry great grandma's pet name.

Exactly - uses his own surname - pisstake! I loathe them! Confused grin] These threads are always fucking batshit lol
Samcro · 06/06/2021 19:59

I find it so bizarre how invested some people are with their ranting hate.
Calling them vile and stuff like that.
If people dislike them so much, why do they give them head space.
Very strange.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 19:59

No. He has to change his name immediately to Smith.
Harry Smith.
To placate posters on here.

hellosally · 06/06/2021 19:59

will any of the family see this baby? Thomas and the rest of the Markles? Charles , William and all her cousins? I gained a lot from my extended family. I feel so sorry for Archie and Lili to not have these opportunities

EssentialHummus · 06/06/2021 20:00

Not my cup of tea and a bit odd imo given some of the back and forth with the RF but, whatever, congrats to them on the safe arrival of their daughter.

My thoughts exactly !!
MrsWarleggan · 06/06/2021 20:01

Am I right in thinking The Queen would have to approve of the name prior to announcing? If so, she was happy with it, so all the bitchiness on this thread is completely pointless 🤷‍♀️

'Shock Horror, Harry doesn't hate his grand-mother. How dare he.'

Well she's the head of a racist institution. Allegedly.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 20:01

MrsW As I understood it, I thought so yes. But I got blasted for suggesting that on here!
