Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:

@dorangme

To get this straight.................the baby was born on Friday and the British media had absolutely no idea

The DM story has amassed 7k comments many of which expressing how little they care 😆

A lot of the time, you would mistake MN to be an extension of the DM 🤣🤣
dorangme · 06/06/2021 18:36

It’s almost as if they wanted people to keep talking about them...

Literally no one is forced to comment

dorangme · 06/06/2021 18:36

@Mummy194 now that is cringe!

BettysFondantFancy · 06/06/2021 18:36

I'm happy their daughter has arrived safely but I don't like the name choice at all.

Lilibet seems so personal to the Queen it just seems wrong somehow 🤷‍♀️

Elizabeth, yes. Lili, yes. But Lilibet, absolutely not.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 18:37

To all those fighting the Queen's corner on here, I have no doubt she will have been asked and if she was not happy she would've said no. So there's no need to worry one little bit.

It's hardly 'commandeering' a name Shock

Do posters honestly honestly believe they would not have run this past the Queen? I mean... really... 😂

Wanttocry · 06/06/2021 18:37
That comment from Sophie was in response to the interviewer saying that apparently the Archbishop of Canterbury spoke to Oprah at the wedding and didn’t know who she was. Sophie was defending him when she said that people in the UK might not know who she was. It’s hardly controversial. Interviewer: “apparently the AoC didn’t know who Oprah was?” Sophie “oh, well, I guess some people won’t know who she is, especially in this country” I’ve paraphrased that obviously but it wasn’t just that Sophie out of nowhere said “people don’t even know who Oprah is”
smilesy · 06/06/2021 18:37

@Parker231 no I appreciate that. I think what I was more meaning was that Lilibet has obviously been chosen as being after the Queen, but as they don’t intend to use it, this would seem to be the only reason they have chosen it. It’s not a family name as such. My youngest has a family name as his middle name.

I8toys · 06/06/2021 18:37

Funny no reference to her maternal side of the family. Probably wouldn't grab headlines.

ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind · 06/06/2021 18:37

After the way he’s treated the Queen it’s a bit weird.

We all saw Diana coming.

I do think it’s a nice name.

buffyp · 06/06/2021 18:38

And the appalling xenophobia you have displayed coke drinker is far worse. You have no idea where posters are from unless they have directly said. This site has posters from around the world. You certainly can’t take the moral high ground with that statement which ironically is incredibly ignorant in itself.

rainbowstardrops · 06/06/2021 18:38

@MattDamon

Seems very insensitive, unless they got her permission first. It was a pet name used by her parents, and husband who just died. It could be quite emotional for her to hear it used elsewhere.

That's what I was thinking. Lilly/Lilli etc = absolutely fine. But to use the Queen's nickname (after everything that's happened)? Nah, not so much.

mathanxiety · 06/06/2021 18:38

@mam0918

So essentially, Jake is short for Jacob.

The Hebrew name Ya’aqov is Iakōbos in Greek, Latinised as Iacobus, and Iacomus, which was written as James from the 13th century in English translations of the Bible.

HyacynthBucket · 06/06/2021 18:39

Agree with LoudestCat14 about commandeering someone else's pet name - it feels like appropriation and intrusive and the name itself - great for a little girl when someone could not pronounce Elizabeth - but not for an adult. I am afraid I find it quite cringemaking and over self-conscious of the parents. I hope she will be known as Lily.

Coolandclamy · 06/06/2021 18:39

@Mummy194 ... and one cannot help but wonder what is going on in the lives of these hateful people to make them do hateful. It is sad really. I don’t get it. It is peculiar and makes the Brits look like folks from the Deep South.

Congrats to them. I wish them well especially after her miscarriage. Must be bittersweet too.

Walkaround · 06/06/2021 18:39

Why on earth would the Queen be offended by the name, ffs?!

Faevern · 06/06/2021 18:40

I think it's disingenuous to give your child the pet name of a grandmother who you have totally disrespected over the last year or so. I think it's typical of their ego and lack of self awareness. It's also in keeping with their determination to remind every one they are still part of the Royal family, just like she uses her full title on her new book.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 18:40

She will.

The official statement from H&M says 'Lili'

buffyp · 06/06/2021 18:41

Considering Harry saw fit to trash her parenting right after she lost her husband then it is perfectly conceivable that they may not have consulted her. You certainly have no more idea than anyone else whether they did or did not so have your 😂 right back. I hope they did but it’s certainly not a given.
Roussette · 06/06/2021 18:42

They certainly don't need to keep reminding people they are members of the RF. Firstly, because Harry is the Queen's Grandson. And secondly... I think everyone knows. .😂

AlfonsoTheMango · 06/06/2021 18:43

Not a fan of Lilibet.

How have they totally disrespected her? They moved to a different country? Neither one of them said a bad word about the queen.

I don't understand this obsession of making out they've shit all over her when in reality they just moved.

@buffyp Really? Did you read my post? I was commenting on the clear and obvious xenophobia from UK posters on here, on a UK site (as I am repeatedly reminded when I've said in the past that this is an 'international site' and am told 95% of posters are from the UK). Take a look at your own ignorance and xenophobia. Stop gaslighting.
Roussette · 06/06/2021 18:44

buffyp

Whatever you think. I doubt the Queen read this on Twitter and thought gosh.... my name! Fancy that!

And just for you another 😂Enj oy!

MaMelon · 06/06/2021 18:44

Why on earth would the Queen be offended by the name

No-one knows if she’s offended! It’s a very personal nickname given to her by her parents and it’s what Philip called her. Given the upset they’ve caused the family when Philip was very ill and then dying it seems quite bold of them, especially when they wanted a quite life away from the shackles of royal duty as told to Oprah and the world - when the Queen has really given her life to that duty. Who knows though.

randomkey123 · 06/06/2021 18:44

This is like playing MN bingo.

I'm doing well - already had "young couple", "haters" and "racists".

Carry on guys, I'm nearly at full house.
