Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:
sadperson16 · 06/06/2021 18:45

its a bit odd? the name I mean.

Don't wish them any harm.

SFHJ · 06/06/2021 18:45

Considering what they are currently doing to the royal family, especially when Prince Phillip was so ill and since he has died. I think it is an insult to the Queen.
I saw Diana a mile off and fair enough, but I like how they have not considered Meghan black heritage into consideration and stuck with names from the ‘racist royal family’

smilesy · 06/06/2021 18:45

I hope they asked the Queen too, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t, given the way they reacted to not being able to use the word “Royal” and saying that “service” is universal. I have no idea and I hope that they did but I’m just saying it’s not inconceivable that they didn’t.

What are they currently "doing to the royal family"?
dorangme · 06/06/2021 18:46

Do posters honestly honestly believe they would not have run this past the Queen? I mean... really...

Obviously what actually happened is the Queen said no, so Harry tied her up whilst Meghan looked on. The Queen hungry & tired eventually relented & let them "have" the name.

That will be the new narrative, the Queen was forced to agree to the name. Therefore we can still criticise them.

OppsUpsSide · 06/06/2021 18:46

don't make a nickname from something that was already a nickname.

Grin good point. I think it’s a sweet nickname but a stupid given name.

mathanxiety · 06/06/2021 18:46

@Wanttocry

So the pre-eminent member of the institution of which HMQ is the head didn't know who a woman who raised herself up from literally nothing to global fame was, a billionaire, African American influencer of opinion and taste...

This gives a lot of credibility to H & M's allegations about the world they have left.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 18:48

but I like how they have not considered Meghan black heritage into consideration

Meghan's dc are living proof of her black heritage why would they need a name to prove it? Also how do you possibly know what they took into consideration?

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 06/06/2021 18:48

I feel sad for Megan's mother. There is nothing in the name for her. I thought they were close.

Mummy194 · 06/06/2021 18:48
@Mummy194 ... and one cannot help but wonder what is going on in the lives of these hateful people to make them do hateful. It is sad really. I don’t get it. It is peculiar and makes the Brits look like folks from the Deep South.

Congrats to them. I wish them well especially after her miscarriage. Must be bittersweet too.
If someone trolls a newborn, you know they are far gone !

SirVixofVixHall · 06/06/2021 18:48

@Youngatheart00

I think it’s another sign of a very confused and desperate couple. The middle name of Diana is an obvious choice and I actually think it’s a lovely way for Harry to honour his mother. But to use the Queen’s childhood nickname when they have spent the last year or so slagging off the institution she is head of is just.....bizarre.
I agree with this. Using a personal pet name specific to a living family member , with very private and personal memories for her is unkind under the circs.
fashionablefennel · 06/06/2021 18:49

randomkey123

you are conveniently forgetting disingenuous, disrespect, attacks/ destroying the royal family....

bingo all the way indeed

Roussette · 06/06/2021 18:49

dorangme

Quite obviously, yes!

It is eminently clear to me why H&M left reading some of the posts on here.

Birminghambloke · 06/06/2021 18:49

Love it. Lovely links to grandparents and mum. Lili and Archie both end in ‘igh’ sound which I like!

Yet they've named their child with reference to that exact world and group of oppressors. How odd!

SenecaFallsRedux · 06/06/2021 18:51

It is peculiar and makes the Brits look like folks from the Deep South.

What folks would that be, exactly?

Roussette · 06/06/2021 18:51

What if they asked the Queen and she was really touched and delighted?

There are two sides to a coin. Not necessarily unkind. Could be very welcome.

But obviously those who dislike them intensely will think the worst. (speaking in general here, not to you)

HmmmmmmInteresting · 06/06/2021 18:52

Wow, I think I've heard it all now. And they try to pretend the criticism is nothing to do with race. Hmm

Marguerite2000 · 06/06/2021 18:52

I would have preferred Lilli Diana myself, but it's their choice of course. I had no idea Lilibet is a recognised name in the US so I googled it. The meaning is 'God's promise'.

I am sure the DM and Piers are already on their keyboards - with tomorrow's story that they did not consult the queen on the name Grin

Coke, that's not what gaslighting means.

What has that got to do with anything? My mum is my hero, but I can't stand her name so didn't use her name.

What a beautiful meaning !

I have no idea if the Archbishop of Canterbury knows who Oprah is. The interviewer asked Sophie about the rumour that he spoke to her and didn’t know who she was and she gave a fairly banal answer along the lines of, not everyone will know who Oprah is.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 06/06/2021 18:53

Lilibet is a cute nickname for a small child, but bloody grim for an adult. Imagine being 45: 'And your name is...?'

Just name her Elizabeth Diana, and call her Lilibet, if that's what you want to do.
