Carrying on the discussion about Harry’s podcast.

None of the Royal Family seem to be uncomfortable with taking hand outs from 'friends' or even strangers, and M&H are following the trend.

I would bet that H&M are continuing to be supported by benefactors, I would not be surprised if their security is being offered to them by someone or other.

Their house in Canada was offered to them free, their first few months in LA were free, they have other peoples private jets at their disposal, they have benefactors offering them paying 'jobs', probably interest free 'loans', (remember Andrew and the $30million chalet in Verbier), so while PC and the RF may not be supporting them, I would be really surprised if they are not being financially supported by some of their new friends.

I have no doubt they will live the billionaire lifestyle without too much effort on their part.

I don’t think they’re particularly dull. William has a good sense of humour. I saw a video of them being guests on a Radio 1 show (it must have been from a few years ago) and he was very sharp and funny.

I admire Kate’s Early Years stuff. She seems to shine when she’s around children and the work has the potential to do a lot of good. She has done some quite interesting - carefully chosen, maybe, but not dull - projects.

@ChiefInspectorParker, could you find that clip of William being ‘off the cuff ‘funny’? I’d be interested because he’s always appeared incredibly dull to me , even when using what appeared to be a prepared script.

I admit I haven’t listened to the podcast but what he says rings true.
The royals are clearly a dysfunctional family, perhaps because they have allotted roles ( dysfunctional families usually force people into roles and reject them if they rebel).

I don’t support the monarchy but Harry was an asset to them which they will rue the loss of. He connects with people. He seems to be genuine .
He also seems tortured and is working through that . Most people can identify with that too.

They are just so embarrassing. The whole thing makes me cringe.

We don’t want a president courting popularity and votes for another run at it. The royals are meant to be apolitical and bit dull. I don't use that word myself towards the RF, but in response to it being used as an attempt to belittle them. Doing the job is what matters, not personality - same as best surgeon might also be dull - not a problem.

IMO dull is epitomised by Meghan’s California woke culture and their fear of saying the wrong thing according to their selected peers. They can be as hateful to everyone else as they don’t matter because they don’t use ‘permitted correct thought and speech’.

when I speak to consistency, I mean in the context of not having every word Harry says ripped to shreds by the press. IF he was consistent in his message, then there would be less to criticise (although there will always be some).

As for a monarchy, I don't think it is consistent with the principles of equality. I do think it's a better option than a UK elected president in the current circumstances.

He came across very well In The Peter Crouch podcast as well where he told a funny story about buying a binoculars for Kate and also ordered beer and takeaway for them all .

It is called being able to think broadly as opposed to one track thinking.

How do you square - risking your country being a laughing stock because money enables people like Trump to appeal to mass politicos of division to become president and entertain world leaders?

We like head of state as apolitical and smooths transition relations with other countries political leaders.

Macron is petulant child too and I prefer head of state representing our country around the world to be apolitical and not a Macron or Trump.

I’m not sure what the point is that you are trying to make but the argument in favour of removing the royals from their current position of unearned power and riches is much more wide ranging than this.

The context was encouraging football players and supporters , so primarily young men to open up about mental health do actually it was appropriate

but he says shut your mouth to someone called Roy something. he is doing it in the country of this person. he goes there and tells them to shut up. as if he is an expert on everything. he is so hypocrite.

True. And M&H now are too. Any opinion anyone has of M&H now is of their own making. I never read the tabloids, so knew nothing about them when they were in the RF. Now I can't escape them, so like many people, I have an opinion about them. It doesn't consume my every waking hour though.

Kate is a bit dull, but that's a good thing in a working royal, as H&M, Fergie and Andrew have evidenced!

On irrelevance of the royals - sure, they aren't paramedics, but the Duke of Edinburgh and Princes Trust schemes are just the high profile charities. I was impressed by Camilla's work promoting the domestic violence charity SafeLives during the pandemic, for example.

I am not a royalist but I try to give them credit where credit is due rather than dismissing the entire family outright. H&M will potentially do some good things if they stop airing their grievances (in my opinion).

As an aside, while I have never been Sarah F's biggest fan I thought her Youtube channel during the pandemic was well intentioned and highly amusing

I think you misunderstand how different political systems work. In terms of constitutional power, the equivalent of Trump is Boris Johnson.

The equivalent of a ceremonial head of state would be Michael Higgins in Ireland or Gudni Johannesson in Iceland. Bet you’ve never heard of them? If dull is what you what from a ceremonial HoS, you will get that in spades with these chaps. Except that they are highly qualified in their non-political careers (the Icelandic President is a historian) and meet the principles of equality for all

Ah, at least we as the tax payers are not paying for it...and i assume there were some other candidates in the running as well 😊

There was an article some time ago about William taking over the presidency of the British Sub Aqua club from Charles.

Charles saying how proud he was to hand it over to William after taking it over himself from Prince Philip.

William may have made a comment about hoping to be able to hand it over to George-not sure.

But it's easy to see how this sort of thing could feel very sidelining to Harry, especially if for example he's never been handed anything from his Gf or father.

It does highlight their different roles-but then most of us have a different job/career/role in life than our siblings, although not necessarily also so bound up in family so that it can seem personal?

I've definitely heard of Michael Higgins. Though, it has to be said, only because I've seen footage of his absolutely gorgeous dogs.

But it's easy to see how this sort of thing could feel very sidelining to Harry, especially if for example he's never been handed anything from his Gf or father.
