Listening to a clip of him speaking at the ‘Vax’ event , he sounded like Gordon Ramsay. He seemed to be loving all the clapping and whooping,

@MoChridhe I don’t intentionally watch them, but it’s pretty hard to avoid them.

Roussette · 03/05/2021 14:57

Well done Harry for adding your name and appearance to the very many other celebrities and famous people.

I think this needs to be organised by the grown ups not some silly concert

Do you even have the remotest idea what this was about?

How pathetic as 'some silly concert'.
Honestly... I despair.
It is raising billions of dollars to provide doses for poorer countries. I understand they have already raised $60M from this concert and are aiming for billions.
COVAX is a global initiative. 191 countries taking part and the WHO identify the countries that need help with the vaccines.
But hey ... crack on with the 'some silly concert' crap.

Anne1958 · 03/05/2021 15:02

He'll soon be being introduced as "Harry, Formerly Known as Prince"

I wish Harry absolutely no ill will whatsoever but your comment along with a few others in the same vein have given me a good laugh.

he is at a place where what he does is being appreciated!

What does he do?

I imagine the aim of this at least in part is to encourage wealthy individuals over there to contribute.

Good point. As he's one of those wealthy individuals, I look forward to Harry's statement of how much he will be donating. Dolly Parton gave $1 million to fund the development of the Moderna vaccine. Is that a reasonable benchmark?

PhilCornwall1 · 03/05/2021 15:27

@Boomshakkalakka

He is lost and the funeral will have reinforced what he has given up for a petulant moaner of a wife. Sad for the lovely young man he once was - not this materialistic wannabe Yank.
I asked the question here when the funeral was on "when he came back, did he think, bugger me this is what I've given up".

Possibly not, but you do wonder.

OverByYer · 03/05/2021 15:39

Yes @sitandwait be interesting to see if he puts his hand in his own pocket

OP posts:
RoseRedRoseBlue · 03/05/2021 15:45

@sitandwait you nailed it. Talk is cheap isn’t it?

ApplyWithin · 03/05/2021 15:47

Dolly Parton is awesome. She also runs a literacy charity that gives away millions of books every year to underprivileged children in America. She really puts her money where her mouth is.

I guess Harry doesn’t have any money since his daddy cut him off...at the tender age of 37.

You don't know what he has donated to whatever cause unless he states it. Same like any other celebrity. This is just ludicrous because he hasn't mentioned that he has donated that means he hasn't. I despair of some on MN. Do you know what any of them on the stand have personally donated or you are only obsessing over H&M?
UrbanRambler · 03/05/2021 16:05

Thank goodness Harry (or HFKAP) has stepped up to get this issue sorted! We need a vaccine to be made available at cost around the world, and for wealthy countries to pay for/donate any excess vaccines they have. Oh, but wait - isn't that exactly what AstraZenica and wealthy countries are already doing?!? Hmm

PostLockdownLife · 03/05/2021 16:08

No mention of the vaccine funded by the UK taxpayers at cost that can be stored in a standard fridge.

Lindy2 · 03/05/2021 16:11

So Harry is now a vaccine expert as well as a mental health specialist. He's keeping busy whilst living life away from publicity......

Roussette · 03/05/2021 16:19

Agreed @Itreallyistimetochangethings

Whatever anyone says he got an electric reception when he walked out and a standing ovation after a great impassioned speech. And he looked as happy as anything.
No wonder he left the UK when he gets criticised for every single thing he does. Good on him.

Urban For your info, it wasn't just Harry Hmm The Bidens, Kamala Harris and many others were part of it. Ben Affleck, Sean Penn, David Letterman, JLo, Crissy Teigen, Jimmy Kimmel and loads of music acts.

There's nothing like knocking an initiative that is on the way to raising billions.

Roussette · 03/05/2021 16:21

So Harry is now a vaccine expert as well as a mental health specialist

Sorry? Where did he say that?
I listened to his speech. It was nothing remotely like that.
And what is wrong with him lending his support to something like this?
It worked. They loved him.

Itreallyistimetochangethings · 03/05/2021 16:56

Totally agree *@Rousette *
Some people find fault in anything with H&M . Thousands are dying in India right this minute. there is a shortage of vaccines!!! he and others are raising awareness. I'm not saying praise him but I can't understand why you would even sink this low to find a way to knock him for this. For all those slagging him off or who are wondering what he has donated etc etc. What have you done to raise awareness of the vaccine or support others to get through the last years. Because i don't see how you can be in a position to mock him if you have supported others in your own way - and if you haven't and have only had yourself and your family to think of then again I can't see how you can
Kick him for doing what he is doing!

cyclingmad · 03/05/2021 17:21

Those commenting to say he probably hadn't even donated? What have you donated then? Pray do tell us please....or shall I just assume its absolutely nothing like you assume of him.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 03/05/2021 17:22

Replying to above post maybe it is because the posters have done a lot themselves to combat the virus
They might think it’s a bit tiresome hot on the heels of the Oprah interview where there is no argument Harry expressed horror at being financially cut off
There are people who have volunteered hours - donated money to the British Asian Trust -returned from retirement to deliver vaccinations are just examples
I have no idea what Harry has done other than bask at the concert for 15 minutes - I’m sure someone will fill me in soon though 😊

OverByYer · 03/05/2021 17:26

I haven’t donated because I’ve spent all of the pandemic going to work and continuing in my public facing role.Unlike Harry I have an actual J.O.B

OP posts:
Itreallyistimetochangethings · 03/05/2021 17:30

@Lockupyourbiscuits
Sure.......If he can raise money for the cause -I'm all for it as he is adding his support not taking from it. I doubt many of those who came out of retirement to help Covid are the ones hating on MN.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 03/05/2021 17:34

@OverByYer

I haven’t donated because I’ve spent all of the pandemic going to work and continuing in my public facing role.Unlike Harry I have an actual J.O.B
Sure - but many of the RF don't have an actual job - why pick on H&M that's what I don't understand. (I forgot they said they wanted a quite life - I'm not sure if that's exactly what they said but in any case they can live as they please) The concert is not taking anything from you or the UK tax payer so while still all the venting! I can't believe you woke up this morning saw this on the news and started a hate thread about it! Disgusting!
Lockupyourbiscuits · 03/05/2021 17:36

I don’t think we can presume to know the views of posters who have come out of retirement

cyclingmad · 03/05/2021 17:45

@OverByYer

So what say you about the rest of the RF then?

At least Harry has helped to raise money, what have the others done except hide away really, maybe do a couple of zoom calls.

And highlighting the need to give vaccines to poorer countries is required because the UK has done more than other countries.

Oh by the way he does have a job now, you might not like it, no doubt but its still a job.

rosetylersbiggun · 03/05/2021 17:46

It's hilarious watching the jealous rage that Harry and Meghan are thriving, happy and popular, from those who predicted they'd fall into poverty and obscurity and Harry would be forced to crawl back with his tail between his legs.

Harry and Meghan have made personal donations to all sorts of charities, mostly very privately and with little press coverage. Meghan gave £10k to a tiny charity in my DB's mum's town and it was kept secret for months. Recently a women's shelter in Texas was damaged in the huge storm and Harry and Meghan paid for their new roof. These are pretty random small charities, so it's likely there are many more donations that aren't public.

I guess Harry doesn’t have any money since his daddy cut him off...at the tender age of 37.
And William's how old and still taking money from daddy? Grin

UrbanRambler · 03/05/2021 18:02

@Itreallyistimetochangethings That is SO unfair of you, to refer to that couple as "H&M"! Shock H&M is a well respected retail firm, which does not deserve to have its brand name damaged by this negative association!

I guess Harry is just trying to carve out a role for himself, which is fine. People see him through different eyes and have different views and that's also fine.
