Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

@wonderstuff

It looks very much like a center Parcs advert! I'm fascinated by how so many people love this sort of thing when so many people in this country are so poor. No point them trying to be anything other than super privileged, just don't get how people can be okay with that on the one hand and not outraged at government austerity measures.

But my politics are obviously not the same as most people's in the UK.

I’m with you. I find them / the monarchy having any kind of ‘aren’t we wonderful’ presence absolutely obscene in these current times.

I am not thankful for them and am horrified that I’m supposed to celebrate a marriage that perpetuates and encourages a divisive class system.

@00100001

To be fair,I think it's their way of controlling access to images of their family. It's probably the same reason that Catherine takes all their birthday/first day photos. Saves the kids being intruded on.

The professionals come in for things like weddings and what not.

Except they credit the film maker below. Hmm
doomonic · 29/04/2021 20:57

@wonderstuff I kind of agree, I feel the whole pretending to be normal, wearing a mix of high street etc is weird because they are not normal & live an incredibly privileged lifestyle. They spend ££££ on holidays in Mustique, millions on renovations etc which is fine because they are rich but the odd Easyjet flight doesn't make me think they are anything like me.

00100001 · 29/04/2021 21:00

@RainedOn

I think I didn't make myself clear.

I know that the video is a professional one.

It's part of the "roll out the royal family for the media" thing. Like, for example,they agreed to one photo shoot on holiday,in exchange for privacy etc.

Anonmousse · 29/04/2021 21:00

It looked a bit cheesy for me but the day at the beach looked typical dull windy (and probably a bit chilly) seaside weather which made it slightly more natural!Grin

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 29/04/2021 21:01

I think it's lovely. What's not to like? Some people are so weird.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 29/04/2021 21:02

Cringe. And actually quite offensive, really. Here we all are, mostly having a shit time having being in lockdown and coping with the pandemic, and there they are fannying around their contrived fire pit and larking it up poshly at a beach near one of their massive homes. I'd be so ashamed if I were them- surely they must realise how ridiculous they are?

But hey, they've been married for 10 years and have lovely children so yay for that, I suppose.

MarshaBradyo · 29/04/2021 21:04

It didn’t do much for me, just an advert for them, but I thought nice production for those who will love it

This. I think it's tone-deaf. We've all had to shrink our worlds so much and here they are larking around on a lovely empty beach near one of their giant houses. All beautiful and healthy and smiley. They didn't have to do this. It's so smug and saccharine.
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 29/04/2021 21:07

I think if your response to this video is anything other than "Oh, happy children isn't that nice?" or total indifference you are probably a little overinvested.

It's their 10th anniversary. They had to do something.

figuresomethingout · 29/04/2021 21:07

arking it up poshly at a beach

I thought lots of people went to the beach?

How do you lark it up unposhly at a beach?

Would you prefer they pretended not to be posh or do you think it's something they should be but hide away, like a deformity in Victorian England. Is there an acceptable way to lark it up if you are, in fact posh?

figuresomethingout · 29/04/2021 21:08

here they are larking around on a lovely empty beach

We did this today though...

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 29/04/2021 21:11

Don't your children lark around at the beach?

Mine do.

Taketheredpill · 29/04/2021 21:13
@RickiTarr - Pretty natural in my world playing in the garden and going for walks. Even the beach would be if we lived close enough. Perhaps I'm too middle class! Hmm
I’m replying to a reply here but you have missed the point Crimson

Ricky can speak for herself but I assume she means it’s not natural in the sense that they are trying to fool you into believing that royals live just like you do.
All in it together and all that !

Looks like in your case it has worked

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 29/04/2021 21:14

Well, they were at the beach for a start - loads of people have been unable to leave their local areas for the past year; let alone do so in such beautiful (and undeniably fabulous) millinery.
And I'm not sure an unposh (normal) visit to the beach during a pandemic would usually involve a professionally edited, soft-focus video. Nothing against them personally but I just think its all a bit tone deaf in view of the current climate, really.

lulugee · 29/04/2021 21:14

🤮 I'm not feeling it, cringe worthy and fake if you ask me

Their PR are trying far too hard since Oprah it's getting silly now

RickiTarr · 29/04/2021 21:16

@doomonic

I’m also agog that they’ve moved into videography marketing at all.

I think lockdown was hard in the sense that they didn't really have the opportunity to do the usual jobs & get the PR & when they did do stuff it felt a bit pointless. H&M have dominated the press so rightly or wrongly they have had to switch the narrative back to full on positive.
If you read the DM at the moment they are in overdrive with the positive stories.

Yes I can see why they’ve done it. I think it might be a rod they’ve made for their own back, though.
PicsInRed · 29/04/2021 21:16

@DobbyTheHouseElk

I don’t think William has cheated. He looks too prudish.
That type are the worst of all for it IMO.
Crimsonripple · 29/04/2021 21:17

@Taketheredpill I haven't missed the point at all. Just because they're Royal they don't go and do normal stuff? They obviously aren't going to be playing adventure golf on Great Yarmouth beach front but I think they genuinely do enjoy fun outdoors.

I live the royals, found it so staged!

PicsInRed · 29/04/2021 21:20

Love how the accompanying messages sent across media were all Harry-inclusive, along the lines of "look how much nicer my family is than the family of that horrible brother of mine Harry! I'm the better brother! I win! I win!".

Spite-happy isn't the same as happy. Not sure how Kate puts up with him.

doomonic · 29/04/2021 21:21

Ricky can speak for herself but I assume she means it’s not natural in the sense that they are trying to fool you into believing that royals live just like you do.

Yes that is what I took from that & that's what I find weird because don't most people know they are not the same. I mean yeah they do no 2s, & play at the beach like us but lifestyle wise it's not remotely similar.

RoseAndRose · 29/04/2021 21:23

Well, they were at the beach for a start - loads of people have been unable to leave their local areas for the past year

But when your local area is spitting distance of a beach? The Sandringham Estate is only a few miles from the sea

MoChridhe · 29/04/2021 21:23

@DobbyTheHouseElk

I don’t think William has cheated. He looks too prudish.
Tiger Woods was a well respected family man the whole time he was shagging porn stars. Beware of the "perfect " ones.
MoreWater · 29/04/2021 21:24

They're allowed to travel now. Last week we played cricket with our kids on the beach. Our kids play in our garden. We have a very old, rusty fire pit. Yes it's a bit staged but honestly what a lovely safe way for them to share a little snapshot of their life.
