Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

OP posts:
BlackCatShadow · 05/05/2021 03:29

Is anyone else weirdly bothered by the capital T on the? Surely, it should be “Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex”?

LadyEloise · 05/05/2021 09:02

My word ! How things have changed in the past 5 years for her when you read M's message to her father.

As I read the Happy Father's Day message and the words "......... and for giving me that signature Markle nose...."
I thought, as did mermaidsariel, but you changed it !!
Like the engagement ring - though I wouldn't hold that against her.
I loved choosing my own engagement ring with my now dh. God knows what he would have chosen. Smile
As RickiTarr does, I think that is a very personal message to put in the public domain and seems very performative.

ajandjjmum · 05/05/2021 09:05

Her father not meeting Harry and Archie is even more incredible when you think that they have been living just 70 miles apart for the past 12 months.

StartupRepair · 05/05/2021 10:07

The message to her dad is much more about Meghan than Thomas. Lot of virtue signalling and brand building.

MoChridhe · 05/05/2021 10:49

@Ballstothis1

I read these threads sometimes, never felt the urge strong enough either way to participate, but clicked the link to book.

Won’t post the words, but all I will say is I don’t think it will be a bestseller, I will stick to Guess How Much I Love You.

Ooops. Book sold out Smile
Anne1958 · 05/05/2021 10:54

I’ve always thought it was a very poor show that Harry didn’t meet his father in law to be prior to the engagement.

Also, if Meghan holds the Royals in so much disdain why is she still using her title.

RickiTarr · 05/05/2021 10:55

See this is what concerns me. Maybe I’ve got her all wrong and she really is made of tungsten, as Prince Charles nicknamed her, but what if she (like most of us to some degree or other) genuinely wants to feel accomplished?

She’ll never get honest feedback or appreciated for her own talents again. Anything she puts out will sell, and she won’t know if it’s because it’s really good or because of the name.

As I said, maybe she doesn’t care. Maybe she just wants money and fame, but OTOH maybe she’s too intelligent not to realise that royals never tell an unfunny joke.

MoChridhe · 05/05/2021 11:04

Do you think the Queen's gin will do well because it is good quality or because it is the queen's?

RickiTarr · 05/05/2021 11:47

I have no idea about anything gin related so I don’t know if that’s a joke, or if Queen gin exists or...

I think Duchy Originals and Sandringham Christmas trees benefit from snob value, as do the Windsor and Sandringham shops.

Fergie and Prince Charles have also written children’s books. I doubt sales were driven by reviews then, either. It is what it is.

When JK Rowling changed her name to move into adult literature, I wonder how many people knew about that?

MoChridhe · 05/05/2021 11:52

Here. Buckingham Palace gin

But she actually is accomplished. The book would probably not be to my tastes (without reading it I can't be definitive but as a PP said there's a rather saccharine tone to her writing) and without doubt wouldn't have been published if she was Mrs Joe Bloggs. But she strikes me as a pretty versatile person who can turn her hand to a lot of things, which coupled with her contacts and work ethic... well, I certainly wouldn't assume everything she produces will be dross.

And as she grew up in LA, and spent a decade or two grafting, I imagine she's not naive about the sycophants or her own abilities. Very different to the rest of the royals in that respect.

LadyEloise · 05/05/2021 12:30

Anne1958
Harry not meeting his fil.
Holding the royals in such disdain yet keeping the title.
My sentiments exactly.
Also - To do that interview when her fil, appeared to be so welcoming and walked her down the aisle, despite misgivings probably. Shock

Roussette · 05/05/2021 12:33

Buckingham Palace gin, that's hilarious!

I'm a gin connoisseur (not really, I just love gin) and I bet that is no better than any of the gins I glug. And what a price!

And we have Charles's Highgrove shops. I've been to one. Very expensive and regal. He was selling his vegetables and plants there from Highgrove house too. I bought some beetroot! "Not just any beetroot but Highgrove beetroot" Grin

derxa · 05/05/2021 12:56

I think the very pro posters see Meghan and Harry as the real life heroine and hero of a Mills and Boon novel. A story they can buy into because they've beaten the evil Establishment through their powers of Tru Luv. And it's even better because they support Joe Biden. I keep seeing phrases like 'madly in love' and 'the young couple'

Roussette · 05/05/2021 13:01

Really?
On MN? Not seen that at all on here. I am sure there are 'very pro posters' on Twitter or elsewhere.

I don't see M&H as heroes of a Mills & Boon at all.
I do, however, see that Meghan in particular was bullied by the UK press continually and they did the best thing ever leaving.
Good on them.

GrinGrin You should have realised by now that Meghan will forever be the barometer by which anything any royal does is measured. That is her power. Wink

You could say something about the video?
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 05/05/2021 14:47

Well I watched it the other day and I bloody loved it and got weepy all over again because I’m a gert big sap.

So there.

And the Queen looked positively radiant. Smile

friendlyflicka · 05/05/2021 18:39

I am more and more republican the older I get but there are other things I get more worked about - the current government for instance. I don't dislike the royals, I dislike the media on the royals: especially the Daily Mail.

Frownette · 05/05/2021 18:58

Oooh MissRousette, get you! I hope that the regal beet was served on your very finest china.

Roussette · 05/05/2021 19:12

But of course!

Yes exactly
Wbeezer · 06/05/2021 06:16

My dad was given a royal turnip (swede) from the veg garden at Balmoral once by a friend's relative who worked there. He gave it to my mum on his return from his hill-walking trip, im not sure she was sufficiently impressed!

Roussette · 06/05/2021 08:02

A royal swede!
