The royal family

I wonder if reconciliation is possible?

With Prince Philip now gone, the queen not as robust as she once was and grieving her loss, Prince Charles looked distraught today, Harry with a new baby on the way, memories of Diana's funeral today....I wonder if now isn't the perfect time for them to just all get together show their love for each other and clear the air (perhaps without Meghan's presence as she seems to inflame things).

I think it'll be telling how long Harry chooses to stay in the UK before he returns to the US (a clear indication of whether he's willing to hang around for a little while to mend fences or rush back home to Meghan and Oprah and Gail) I really wish the best for them all, family is everything but I'm not holding my breath.

PostLockdownLife I have reported you awful post

I see you have.

I am now reminded of that scene in Bruce almighty where he feels euphoric - as I am sure you currently do, when he mouths "I got the power".

IrmaFayLear · 27/04/2021 10:24

The Meghan thing is not unprecedented. Wallis Simpson. That whole episode must have spawned a million conversations - it’s just that there was no social media to see them. And the press was very circumspect before it all blew up. I’ve barely read a complimentary piece or seen a sympathetic portrayal of Wallis Simpson. The narrative is always of a weak, spoilt man and a woman who thought she was getting first prize and then was awarded “runner up as far away as possible” status. And there remained a bitter and vengeful pair. Hmmmmm.

Taketheredpill · 27/04/2021 10:24

@derxa
“Fair enough but their reaction is from the point of view of a family not an institution.“

A dysfunctional family which is also the institution.
An institution with power and influence.

Time for them to go. Get rid of the lot

I’m sorry but this really made me giggle 😂

Harry accused 'someone' of saying 'something' racist thereby casting aspersions on the whole Royal family. He didn't have the guts to make a direct accusation

How could he? Honestly. If he had named one member of the RF as making racist comments, he would've been annihilated. I know you are going to say that labels the whole family. No it doesn't.

Here is the Andrew thread. It's very quiet, despite today's news of his association with a friend accused of sexual harrassment, a friend who was at Eugenie's wedding. And even after the accusations, A carried on setting up a Company with him, designed to hide his finances.
Nothing to see here folks... Hmm

Explain what you mean by 'annihilated'? I assume you mean something more than 'criticised' because that's happened anyway.

I am glad you can join me in laughing.

I am now off to consider what lectures I will be given as a dreadful human - as I am also a pet owner - and look upon my pet as a dreadful creature with carbon footprint 👣 like myself, we are both parasites upon the earth apparently - some believe the earth was made for us and down that we don't belong here, of course the new Gods must be worshipped and pontificate at me whilst they live in opulence themselves, I would discuss further, alas - I gather my opinions would be deleted.

I am off to do two Hail Harry's in shame.

Roussette · 27/04/2021 10:52

It would've been more than criticised... I imagine threads on here would be pulled continually for vile posting until MN had to, again, put a stop to any threads about H&M because of the nature of them.
Elsewhere, who knows. The british press would've had a field day of course.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 27/04/2021 10:57

But the press did have a field day. I'm still not seeing how making an accusation but not naming the person is better than naming them. Surely they should be named if racist?

Roussette · 27/04/2021 10:59

No. I think an independent enquiry is needed for all the RF staffing practices though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/04/2021 11:02

It was a different world then of course, but the conversations could only have happened much later because the plebs didn't know - the press weren't so much circumspect as hogtied

I realise of course that "deals" with the media still happen, but the chances of that remaining unknown in the internet age are about nil ... yet another reason the RF probably hate it, except when it suits

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 27/04/2021 11:09

Sorry, not getting what the 'no' is to?

I agree about the independent enquiry.

PostLockdownLife · 27/04/2021 11:21

I have just read an active thread on here, with opinions regarding a politician.

I understand that the Sussexs have political ambitions for the future, will people be able to comment then?

Roussette · 27/04/2021 11:48

Skip You asked a question and I answered it?

Roussette · 27/04/2021 11:49

I thought that had been discounted?

People are commenting...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/04/2021 11:53

I agree about the independent enquiry

So do I, but good luck expecting one

There's an old saying about he who pays the piper calling the tune, and I'd say there's no more chance of "independence" in an enquiry about the RF than there would be in the same about the government

PostLockdownLife · 27/04/2021 11:56

11:49Roussette

Alas I am not able to do the correct, exclusive language skills as some can, as I have a variety of learning and physical disabilities.

Time will tell if there are political ambitions, we were told many things in the Oprah interview that we could fact check for ourselves.

Roussette · 27/04/2021 11:59

PostL

But they didn't say that in the OW interview.

Lockdownbear · 27/04/2021 12:15

I guess at the time of the abdication they'd have been lots of conversations on the horror of it.
But did the King/Duke & Wallis ever do newspaper articles radio talk shows slagging the family?

No from what I can work out they did and Andrew kept quiet let the dust settle.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 27/04/2021 12:23

@Roussette ok, so that 'no' I take as being to 'shouldn't someone be named if racist?' Surprised you feel that way. I think the person concerned should be named and the exact conversation identified so that the public know the full truth. Said person can then give their own account if they wish, apologise if they wish, whatever.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 27/04/2021 12:34

I don't see any political role being a thing. One, it would surely require dropping the royal title and both seem keen to keep using them. Two, the scrutiny and criticism would make anything previous look like child's play, and there would be no recourse then to being a 'private citizen' who can expect to be left alone.

HeadNorth · 27/04/2021 12:37

That 'I understand' is carrying a lot of weight in that sentence.

I understand you like to speculate without basis. I understand you have decided MM is the enemy. I understand you can turn milk sour.... I understand you turned your neighbour into a frog Grin

I don’t understand your point here lockdown.

Do you mean that keeping quiet is the morally right thing to do ?
And Andrew didn’t keep his head down. He did a BBC interview in Buckingham Palace! Since that disaster he has been advised to keep his head down .

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/04/2021 13:05

I think the person concerned should be named and the exact conversation identified so that the public know the full truth

With the caveat that we'll never know the full truth about the RF, I agree
In fact, when Oprah asked for the name, the mealy mouthed "that would be damaging" annoyed me more than most of it - as if they didn't know that what they were saying was damaging anyway. Or maybe they really didn't know, in which case they're even more lacking in judgement than I thought

As I've said before these self-serving interviews never end well, whether it's them, Charles with Dimbleby, Andrew with Maitlis, Diana with Bashir or even Edward with the media after the disastrous It's a Royal Knockout. They lack the intelligence to see they'd have done better to keep schtum, and to let their work - or what little there is of it - speak for them instead

As a republican I've no respect for the Queen's actual position (though I admire the way she's stuck at what she perceives to be her duty) but one of the things I do favour is her choice to never give interviews at all

Roussette · 27/04/2021 13:06

Skip but we know that isn't going to happen! The RF don't apologise! And you saying 'then the public know the whole truth'... well... it really really isn't going to happen then. They are shielded by the PR machine and the public gets to know what the RF want us to.

But did the King/Duke & Wallis ever do newspaper articles radio talk shows slagging the family?

It was such a different time, there is no comparison. No royals gave interviews, wrote articles, talked to the public. None of them.

Andrew keeping his head down, that's a laugh. It was a carcrash of an interview he gave. And he's still doing his own thing now given the latest news.
