The royal family

I wonder if reconciliation is possible?

With Prince Philip now gone, the queen not as robust as she once was and grieving her loss, Prince Charles looked distraught today, Harry with a new baby on the way, memories of Diana's funeral today....I wonder if now isn't the perfect time for them to just all get together show their love for each other and clear the air (perhaps without Meghan's presence as she seems to inflame things).

I think it'll be telling how long Harry chooses to stay in the UK before he returns to the US (a clear indication of whether he's willing to hang around for a little while to mend fences or rush back home to Meghan and Oprah and Gail) I really wish the best for them all, family is everything but I'm not holding my breath.

Perhaps at the heart of this is an adult child estrangement between Harry and Charles . - unusual family arrangements / estrangements with Diana’s mother/Tragedies probably make it a high risk probability.

If so only Charles can fix it.

There seems to be a lot of unraveling to do - and the risk of more public damage to the monarchy and other family members which complicates things .

@Skiptheheartsandflowers
I did misunderstand, yes. And happy to say so, sorry not to come back sooner on it.
Andrew is way way down on that bar as far as I'm concerned. Especially as a story has broken about another friendship with a banker accused of sexual assault.

What does that mean?
What do you mean, what does that mean?
I think she has knowledge and confidence to do things over in the US.

I'm still not clear. We don't say 'a strong empowered man'. Why is 'strong empowered woman' good?

derxa No we don't say that about a man. Agreed. A whole other discussion as to why that might be.

@StartupRepair

What is both sad and chilling is that h and m have completely reproduced the situation they were in with Thomas Markle. They couldn't reach out to reconcile with him for fear he would go straight to the media. Now this is how they are perceived by Harry's family. Meghan has become her father.
Yes agree with this.
Skiptheheartsandflowers · 27/04/2021 09:07

@Roussette thank you. I had been away from the thread myself so had only now seen it to enlarge.

I think it's ironic that having left royal working life and having said he was 'trapped' in it, Harry now seems set on a pathway of very similar things with his executive jobs for good causes. I thought he left the army because he didn't want to do a desk job. Something physical would surely be better in a wildlife-focused outdoorsy fashion. If he'd gone in for being a volunteer in a vaccination or Covid testing centre, as some friends of mine who've lost their jobs have done, I think that would earn him more goodwill from people.

It is interesting that my attempt to consider why MM exerts so much fascination has just become more people posting their continued fascination with MM. As she has done very little to warrant such obsession in the grand scheme of things, I wonder if it is the 'other' element - other country, other nationality, other race - that leads to so much projection.

A thread showing a photo of her pregnant & carrying her child had to be deleted it became so nasty. That is a perfect example of what fascinates me - such an innocuous image of a day to day activity could fill a thread with such anger. The image was so anodyne and the response so extensive, it surely illuminates something within the posters themselves far more than being about anything MM has actually done.

IrmaFayLear · 27/04/2021 09:18

Those Harry jobs are, I agree, a bit embarrassing if very lucrative.

When I worked in the US the company appointed a very famous person as President of Somethingorother (almost everyone has President in their title in US firms..). It was very exciting. Did that person ever once set foot in the office? Did they hell. And this was pre internet so certainly no wfh.

Oh dear, then I assume I will be deleted, I didn't know opinions on character types isn't allowed, It is not personal to this pair, half of instagram would get the same opinion from me.

PicsInRed · 27/04/2021 09:25

@HeadNorth

Taking the 'blank canvas' idea forward - why has MM been selected as the recipient of this? Out of all the other Royals (and celebs), she has been used as the recipient of posters' projections of their inner views, feelings, discontents and cultural values.
Yes, why indeed. It's a real head scratcher isnt it. 🤔
Roussette · 27/04/2021 09:27

Yes I find it fascinating and strange too. I've been on MN since dinosaurs roamed the earth and in all that time, I have never seen such obsession about any one else. Ever.
I think Meghan came along at a time when people wanted extensive discourse about someone and she fitted the bill perfectly. Then lockdowns meant more time on their hands. She was different to anyone else the RF have encountered and it all started very soon on. Before the wedding.

I know without doubt there are some who liked her, were happy they were marrying etc, but then they went off her, because of very many reasons, and obviously the OW is the cherry on top the icing on top the cake.
But also I do think there are people who never liked her, never would, and that opened up the floodgates to criticise everything about her.

Viviennemary · 27/04/2021 09:30

DM reporting tha
t Andrew is starting up his own business with some ex banker with a dubious past to put it mildly. Which I think is a disgrace.

Taketheredpill · 27/04/2021 09:33

Clearly the royal family is a dysfunctional family writ large.

I believe Harry re how his wife was treated. Harry will have revealed a few home truths and he will immediately become the scapegoat for doing so.
Some one up thread compared the treatment of Andrew and Harry and others said it wasn’t relevant. Oh but it is. It is extremely relevant .
We all know what Andrew has been accused of and his long history.
Was Andrew cold shouldered at the funeral ?

Samcro · 27/04/2021 09:46

PostLockdownLife I have reported you awful post.

Harry accused 'someone' of saying 'something' racist thereby casting aspersions on the whole Royal family. He didn't have the guts to make a direct accusation. Andrew may be vile but he never bad mouths his family. It is unfair from our point of view that Andrew retains all his privileges despite behaving in such a despicable manner. However the Royal Family can be likened to the Mafia: Keep your mouth shut and never rat on your friends. Imagine being Prince Charles and being accused of possible racism by your own son in an interview seen by millions of people.
Taketheredpill · 27/04/2021 10:01

‘Andrew never bad mouths his family’

That’s ok then

Taketheredpill · 27/04/2021 10:02

Comparing the royals the Mafia?
As a republican , I’ll take it . thank you!

I'm speaking from their point of view not mine. I dislike Andrew intensely.

I hope not.
I very much agree too that it certainly isn't personal for me either.
The Oprah interview was very interesting in terms of character types/behaviours when looked at through a different set of eyes.

Taketheredpill · 27/04/2021 10:11

It’s really not about your dislike or otherwise of Andrew.

This is publicly funded institution. It’s protecting Andrew .

derxa · 27/04/2021 10:14

Fair enough but their reaction is from the point of view of a family not an institution.
