@derxa

So emotional. Those bloody masks though.
With it being televised they may actually prefer wearing those masks to not. Having done three funerals in the past year wearing a mask really wasn't an issue. Infact, in some ways it helped to have my face mainly hidden.

The queen may actually be preferring to be able to wear her brimmed hat, her mask and her head down right now tbh.

@likeamillpond

The singing's giving me goosebumps. Fantastic.
I wonder how they were chosen and if they always had to be ‘ready’. They couldn’t have practiced all this so quickly could they?
StealthPolarBear · 17/04/2021 15:24

Yes, having the lady in waiting there would have bumped someone else.
Poor Queen.

BlueLobelia · 17/04/2021 15:24

What beautiful hymns and beautiful singing. This very pared down simplifed funeral seems so dignified and poignant, and ethereal.

I cried at the carriage horses and gloves and cap.

@Aspiringmatriarch

What a shame William and Harry couldn't walk together. Very pointed.

The music is beautiful.

Eldest grandson in the middle.

Shame the adult granddaughters couldn't walk too

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 15:24

Maybe for the Royals it's a blessing to be able to hide behind them a little though.

I think for this one it might be.

With a mask and a hat the Queen at least has a little privacy

practicallyimpractical38 · 17/04/2021 15:24

moose62 · 17/04/2021 15:24

I wish the journalists would stop making it sound like William and Harry couldn't walk together. We are forgetting that Peter is the oldest of the grandchildren and just as important to.Prince Phillip and therefore should have walked in the centre. Must admit to shedding a year at I vow to thee my country. I have been unlucky enough to go to two funerals this year and the social distancing is awful.

SueSaid · 17/04/2021 15:25

'Whatever you think of the Royal Family this is stunning to watch. Windsor looks glorious, the Land Rover hearse, the cap and gloves on the carriage, the music, it's perfect.'

It is isn't it. So moving.

Justmuddlingalong · 17/04/2021 15:25

Apparently it's traditional for the eldest grandchild to walk in the middle, so that would be Peter Phillips.

LemonViolet · 17/04/2021 15:25

I think the procession was
Charles & Anne
Andrew & Edward
William, Peter Phillips & Harry
Tim Laurence (Anne’s husband) & David Armstrong-Jones (Princess Margaret’s son)

It’s to do with order of seniority of age. I haven’t watched the funeral so I don’t know who is sitting between them, but I came across some rumblings in the press when the plans were released ahead for the funeral that it was due to the rift that Peter Philips will be placed between them. A quick google showed that was because Peter is the eldest grandchild. I wish people would stop making a mountain out of a molehill.
Checkingout811 · 17/04/2021 15:26

Whatever anyone thinks of the royals, the amount of courage this is taking today is admirable. They all look absolutely distraught, I thought Sophie looked heartbroken when it shot to her and the children.
What an awful thing to have to go through.

I find it really sad, even though I know why, that Harry is alone. Very poignant.

BadMudda · 17/04/2021 15:26

It's very moving

☹️Thanks

viques · 17/04/2021 15:26

@Roussette

The choir are magnificent.

They are having to sing elsewhere in the church because no churches allow singing at the moment. Well as far as I know, happy to be corrected on that.

It looks as though they have cleared all the seating from the nave of the church and the choir are singing there. Very dramatic and ethereal. Hope there is more to come, I could listen to them sing all afternoon.
mogloveseggs · 17/04/2021 15:26

Im in the hairdressers-welling up at this thread. Will watch when I get home. Really feel for them.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 17/04/2021 15:27

How lovely to have the Lord's Prayer sung

Chloemol · 17/04/2021 15:27

I wish they would stop showing the Queen, it’s unnecessary

ilovesooty · 17/04/2021 15:27

I bet the Queen will be glad when it's over.

FlagsFiend · 17/04/2021 15:27

Do we know why the granddaughters didn't walk? I'm fairly sure Princess Anne did at the queen mother's funeral (when she'd be a granddaughter).

Totally agree. Journalists just love stirring it up. I expect neither William or Harry can concentrate on the funeral for fear of more misinterpretation and spin. I feel for them.
Pupster21 · 17/04/2021 15:28

Peter Phillips walked with Harry and William at the Queen Mother’s funeral also. He wasn’t in the middle but it was the 3 of them.

anon12345678901 · 17/04/2021 15:28

I wish they'd stop focusing on the queen and family, seeing her head bowed all the time is bringing me to tears and alone too. Sad

Exactly.

They're completely ignoring that the family are walking in age order. Which actually for the royals is quite unusual and says a lot.

Especially when the four of his children walked two and two and going in age order meant Anne wasn't relegated behind her brothers. It's a massive symbol of it being the funeral of a Dad and Grandad first and foremost.
