very emotional, I have tears rolling down my cheeks.

SoupDragon · 17/04/2021 15:29

The restrictions have probably gone in the Duke's favour given his wishes for a more low key (!) funeral

PiccallilliCircus · 17/04/2021 15:29

The choristers are wonderful.

Pupster21 · 17/04/2021 15:29

Zara only had her baby 3 weeks ago (or 4?). Possibly a reason the Grandaughters didn’t walk.

LIZS · 17/04/2021 15:30

@FlagsFiend

Do we know why the granddaughters didn't walk? I'm fairly sure Princess Anne did at the queen mother's funeral (when she'd be a granddaughter).
Two of them recently gave birth. It would also have made the procession rather long.

The procession was deliberately kept small because of distancing.

There would have been a lot more people walking normally.

AprilFoolaround · 17/04/2021 15:31

I feel like I shouldn't be watching such an intimate event. I cry so much at funerals. The first reading was beautiful. I feel so sad for the Queen.

dementedma · 17/04/2021 15:31

I didnt expect to be as moved by this as I am. Its a beautiful service

SoupDragon · 17/04/2021 15:32

I find it quite poignant that the queen has put her bag on what would have been Phillips seat

FlagsFiend · 17/04/2021 15:33

That makes a lot of sense, I'd forgotten 2 of them had recently had a baby.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/04/2021 15:33

Poor - well not sure which sister it was - close to but her eyes.

LemonViolet · 17/04/2021 15:33

Zara Tindall and Princess Eugenie have both given birth in recent weeks, there may be medical issues why they were not able to and so Beatrice didn’t either to save any focus on that? And Louise is only 17.

I wonder if they will have some private time together as a family later.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/04/2021 15:33

Details of all the music here. Most of it would normally be sung by a full choir of course:
inews.co.uk/news/uk/prince-philip-funeral-music-songs-hymns-pieces-choir-st-georges-chapel-lyrics-960822

The choristers are from the chapel’s normal choir, doesn’t say who the soprano is.

Singing by a small group in church is now allowed.

Princess Eugenie had a baby at the start of February as well
mateysmum · 17/04/2021 15:33

They had me at I vow to thee my country. Charles looks heartbroken. I'm glad the Queen is keeping her head bowed and face covered. I feel to see her would be so I intrusive.

willithappen · 17/04/2021 15:34

They can only have 30 for the funeral and it's been well publicised they had to shave it down

I can't imagine how the queen is feeling right now. Feel so bad for all of them and also feel strange watching. It is a beautiful service though

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/04/2021 15:34

I was quite shocked at how frail the Queen looked walking in. She has always walked firmly, back straight, no hesitation. This is the first time I have seen her and thought that she looked like an elderly lady. And Charles just looks broken, so sad for them.

Rules say no wake but I like to think they will break the rules. My family would if it helps them feel closer to the common people!

I am not a royalist , but I feel desperately sad for the Queen
Imagine losing your husband of over seventy three years or so.

forfucksakenett · 17/04/2021 15:34

@Checkingout811

Whatever anyone thinks of the royals, the amount of courage this is taking today is admirable. They all look absolutely distraught, I thought Sophie looked heartbroken when it shot to her and the children. What an awful thing to have to go through.

I find it really sad, even though I know why, that Harry is alone. Very poignant.

Is it really an awful thing to have to go through? He lived to 99 was very loved and they are able to give him a lovely send off.

Soprano is the stunning Miriam Bannon
SoupDragon · 17/04/2021 15:35

Burying a loved one is always hard, no matter their age.

MrsGulDukat · 17/04/2021 15:35

Seeing the Queen alone has set me off.

Theres no need to focus on her.

DateLoaf · 17/04/2021 15:35

Very sad to see the Queen watching the service alone. And Harry on his own. I feel so sad for any family with a loss, but covid restrictions make the rituals that are meant to be comforting and bring people together to mourn, so unnatural and isolating.
Must be such a painful blurring of personal loss and duty/work requirements for the royal family today.

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/04/2021 15:35

I actually think that this is a much better and respectful way of doing things than the 800+ congregation plus gawpers that there would have been. Perhaps this will be the catalyst to scale things back in future.
