I wasn't asking to be funny- I was just asking because a friend of mine asked what I was doing today and I said I was having a drink outside a bar and she said she was at home wearing black and pearls for the funeral? I thought this was strange and it never occurred to me that ordinary people might do this- so was just asking to see if this was common?

Are you in the NE? I ask because on our regional news there was a woman who has only worn black since the Duke died. I wondered of that was your friend

I suspect Heathrow just switched to one of the runways that sends planes out in a different direction.

It really isn't that easy..wind direction determines runway in use - there's no getting around the physics of flight. Heathrow's pair of runways run east- west, that's it, and for Windsor the noise problem can be from landing aircraft ..if the wind is an easterly the town will get overflights, because aircraft overflies pretty much the top of the castle as it heads into the airport to land towards the east..

The lone piper was lovely. My dad loved the bag pipes. All of it made me so upset today.
I know I'm getting old.

I thought the same. Her pearls were beautiful, ditto her hat and veil.

Very sad to see the Queen sat alone, although it did make me smile to see that she had popped her handbag in the empty seat next to her. I have informed DP that if he goes first, I will absolutely replace him with a nice handbag.

I started watching it before having to go out, and sat blubbing while listening to the military band at the start. Such breathtaking music, especially I vow to thee my country.

A fitting send off for a perfect gentleman. I hope The Queen is resting tonight, and being well taken care of.

What was written on the card on the beautiful flowers?

The pearls (necklace and earrings) belong to the Queen and were previously worn by Princess Diana, according to various media sources.

I think the card on the flowers was in an envelope, with a personal message from the Queen inside. As it should be.

She looked absolutely stunning I thought.

I watched on the BBC (from abroad) and thought it was magnificent, if that's not too strange a word. Utter perfection.
It also reminded me of my childhood, and my grandparents and the royal events when Princess Alexandra, the Kents and the Gloucesters were very much at the forefront of everything.
Also thinking how my Mum (who died last year) would have said "nobody does weddings and funerals like the British royals"
to all.

She will be Queen Consort, just as the Queen’s mother was and Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra , what will be interesting is if Camilla will take the title of Queen.

I thought it was perfect for him . Exactly as he chose it to be and devoid of anyone that wasn't his family except for Countess Mountbatten. It was so lovely and so touching. The piper was a goose bumps and big tears moment. My heart went out to the Queen.

I dont think Camilla will be Queen. If my memory serves me correctly, part of the deal when they got married is that she would not be titled Queen.

They still weren't particularly liked when they married, public opinion was still very low on Camilla and people were very upset thinking she would be Queen.
I think her title will be Princess Consort or something.
They will also avoid Princess of Wales, aswell, even though she is.

SOL many of my American relatives were clearly watching and then emailed us, the U.K. lot, saying how amazed they were.
Magnificent - a good word. There were a lot of Dutch tweets which contained the word ‘prachtig’ - lots. I finally thought why are they saying ‘practical’ - it means magnificent. Who would guess !
