There is a piece of music that I really want to know the name of. It was the last piece of music played by the military band before they set off ok the profession on the green. Its very famous and I think is played at remerbace events etc...

SoupDragon · 17/04/2021 16:17

All of the senior royals have funerals planned well in advance.

I red somewhere that the Duke's coffin had been made for him over 30 years ago and the queen has a matching one.

ApplyWithin · 17/04/2021 16:18

Are you thinking of Nimrod by Elgar?

FlattestWhite · 17/04/2021 16:18

Oh from the commentary now, it sounds like the cars were empty and the family decided to walk up the hill instead, regardless of what had been planned? Interesting that they could divert if they wanted to.

Sounds like they are going to be together now at some sort of wake too, though they had to say that of course it would be subject to Covid restrictions.

JustLyra · 17/04/2021 16:18

Did they just say on the BBC that the walking back wasn't planned?

If so that's lovely. It's a nice day so lets all just walk back.

peak2021 · 17/04/2021 16:18

My thoughts are with the Queen. The Duke not wishing for a eulogy said a lot to me about the lack of fuss he wanted.

YanTanTethera123 · 17/04/2021 16:19

Incredibly moving, poignant and so powerful a service.
It reduced me to tears, the Queen looked so bereft and tiny.
My parents have both died recently, 3 months and one day apart, and I really feel for the family.
I do wonder whether Harry will have some pangs regarding having given up the chance to support the Queen, his father and William? I wonder if he’ll be on a plane home tonight.

Nimrod?

Incredibly moving and properly fitting.

Sorry for your loss Thanks

I think a few million people breathed a huge sigh of relief at William and Harry walking together afterwards.

I think so too.
freckles20 · 17/04/2021 16:21

Harry can't win. If he hog foots it home the press will jump on him. If he doesn't they will criticise him for leaving his wife for too long.

EdithWeston · 17/04/2021 16:21

I wondered about this - whether you could split the 30 into two groups of 15 in separate rooms

Yes, I think they have plenty of space to have well distanced drinks in smaller groups in private. Which could be arranged either by protocol or affection. And it's a nice day, so it could all be outdoors as well

The Queen lives in 'HMS Bubble' which means key staff also isolated to protect her, wgpich is why a lady-in-waiting could be in the car with her

Strictly speaking you should not have live music or singing at a service, so that's probably why they had it out in different (and enormous) hall

That's what Huw implied wasn't it ?

Charles rejected the cars for a walk back instead.

Are you thinking of Nimrod by Elgar?
YES!! Thank you. I've been wanting to know what it's called for a while now. It's just beautiful
Roussette · 17/04/2021 16:24

One final thought, I so much preferred the male royals in morning dress rather than their full military flashiness. Firstly the uniforms are terribly pretentious if they aren’t actual serving officers and in some cases have never served in the forces and secondly it made the service much more personal and intimate. There was enough pomp outside the chapel, enough recognition of the D of E military connections, that was the focus as it should have been

So agree with this.

Bluebird2021 · 17/04/2021 16:24

the Queen paused a few mins to speak with Phillips German relatives? didnt see them at all

Good call by her majesty, I know she was pushed into it by a couple of family members having a hissy ,but she made the right decision.

I agree
Roussette · 17/04/2021 16:25

@YanTanTethera123
I really feel for you. Flowers
My parents died within ten days of each other and it's such a strange feeling to go from two to none.

Hope you're coping as well as can be.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/04/2021 16:26

It was truly fitting and beautiful, wasn't it

Paddy1234 · 17/04/2021 16:26

I think it was more evocative today. Morning suits against the backdrop of the pomp of the chapel.
A simply beautiful service

Lampzade · 17/04/2021 16:27

@Justmuddlingalong

I'm waiting for the media to twist things. ie Harry, William and Kate have a wonderful relationship when Meghan isn't there to cause problems.
That is exactly what the media will do. Very sad
SallyOMalley · 17/04/2021 16:27

Elgar's Nimrod is beautiful. My grandfather (in the RAF all his working life) chose it for his funeral. He died over 10 years ago and I still cry every time I hear it.

I’m imagining the conversation between the drivers of the abandoned cars. Grin
