The royal family

Lady Colin Campbell says it was Princess Anne who made the comment

There was a lot of speculation who made the comment after Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview.

She says it wasn't a racist comment. The family were concerned about Meghan in general and it has been twisted by Meghan and Harry.

I don't think Meghan and Harry are on Lady C's Christmas card list. 😲

They divorced because of 'cultural differences' ?

There's a photo in the link above showing Gary Lewis and Lady Davina next to the Queen at a reception at Buckingham Palace, that looks fairly inner circle to me.

As for speculating on the daughter of W's black friend marrying George, in the newspaper article you linked to above Mummy 185 it was Harry that was reported as saying of his (Zimbabwean) girlfriend Chelsy: "Don't worry, she's not black or anything". Remind me again who you think has the problem here? Hmm

@Mummy195

Yes, he blacked up, he was wearing a black leotard to be a black Zulu. Not sure he did actually blackface though - as in painted his face black, that is not described.

Nope. The party that William wore a leotard for was another fancy dress party, where he was dressed up as a leopard.

You're literally just making stuff up now.

She's British and very wealthy, he's from a New Zealand with a background as a sheep shearer. Last time I checked, pretty different cultures. Grin

[quote Mummy195]"Lots of people will be wondering if we're actually going to be eating crocodile, but obviously we won't be doing that," he said with a wide grin.

Arriving at Cotswolds Costumes (make-up and wigs also supplied), the three young men set about choosing their garb. "I believe William asked about a Zulu costume but we didn't have any," the shopkeeper, Maud Franklin, told a tabloid reporter. William evidently was determined to be a "native" and settled instead on a collection of leopard skins.

Prince William appeared in a leopard outfit with black leggings.

Other articles say leotard. His pic was not leaked, I don't think.

The leopard outfit with black leggings was a party in January 2005. Not his 21st birthday. You've actually re-ordered the text you've cited from that article in order to make it look as though the 'leopard outfit' was William's birthday. It wasn't.

BuggerBognor, it depends how it is said. Context is all. I doubt Harry and Meghan would have been concerned if the comment was just wondering who any babies would look like.

Harry is far from thick, I would have thought that was obvious. He was a successful army officer for many years and would not have been so had he been 'thick'.

He’s far from the sharpest tool in the box. I’ve met a lot of army officers, some of them have been spectacularly stupid.

I can quite believe it was Anne, couched in breeding stock terms given her equine obsession and reputation for calling a spade a bloody shovel. Personally I think Andrew should take one for the team, he hasn’t got much to lose.

My money’s on Camilla. Can’t see P Anne saying anything racist tbh. I’ve met her a few times, she’s consistently horrible but not in that sort of way. An awful lot of effort has gone into rehabilitating Camilla and they won’t want that to be blown away by accusations of racism.

Yes, I wonder if Anne is taking one for the team. She is well regarded and loyal to the RF so maybe she decided to ok a 'leak' that she said it.

I can't imagine Anne lecturing Harry about who to marry. Would that not have come from Charles?

Bloody hell. Which link was that? (I was just C+Fing them for 195’s bizarre claims).

No wonder MM has to doggedly insist she didn’t do her due diligence.

I’m really arriving at a point of thinking there are quite a few liars in this story.

LCCs said PA was not in any way concerned by Meghan's colour , only her character because she sussed very quickly that Meghan was an 'operator' and knew she was going to be trouble. She was concerned for Harry marrying her and for any children he had with her.

I can't imagine anyone asking how dark their baby's skin would be as it's a dumb, unanswerable question until any baby is born.

Why would the colour of Harry and Meghan's child be an issue or a concern for anyone in the RF?

It was the link about politicians criticising Harry for the Nazi outfit and suggesting he shouldn't take up his Sandhurst place - it was right at the end of the report, and really made me do a double take. I googled, and it was reported elsewhere too.

So it wasn't Anne who made the colour-of-child comments then. She made different comments, which aren't the comments which were of great concern to Harry.

Some conflating going on here by Colin.

Surely all the previous about Harry's conduct indicates is that any comments would have to be pretty bloody horrendous to upset him?

Oldbutstillgotit · 31/03/2021 20:46

I would take the comments more seriously if H and M could agree when they were ( allegedly) said.

Could be exactly that, or could be that he has the zeal of a convert, could be a complete misunderstanding.

I can’t see this going away until it’s properly clarified which, though.

No matter how obnoxious you find her, her name is Georgie. If you are going to start having anti-intersex pops at her you make yourself look hypocritical.

Harry said the discussions were held (iirc) in the run up to the wedding and Meghan said Harry told her when she was pregnant - she was pregnant right after the wedding. Meghan wasn't present for the comments.

So the unidentified family member discussed this with Harry and a short while later he discussed it with Meghan.

See if you read the actual transcript, it’s pretty obvious who was conflating.

I think the one thing that M and H’s departure has shown up is the fact that Harry is not too sharp. Removed from the construct of the RF he is completely exposed. And he’s come out with some complete nonsense in most of his statements and interviews so far.

Also agree with the Michelle Obama comparison... it’s pretty tacky to bitch about your ILs on Oprah... that’s not how the US viewers see it but they’ve definitely alienated much of the British public.

I might be wrong but I understood that M claimed the discussion was “ in tandem” ( her words) with the discussions about Archie’s title and protection whereas H suggested it happened before they were married .
They were married in May and Archie was born a year later so M wasn’t pregnant right after the wedding.

She said there were conversations. Plural.

Harry seems to have this particular sticking on his mind, maybe because it was the first and stuck.
