The royal family

Lady Colin Campbell says it was Princess Anne who made the comment

There was a lot of speculation who made the comment after Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview.

She says it wasn't a racist comment. The family were concerned about Meghan in general and it has been twisted by Meghan and Harry.

I don't think Meghan and Harry are on Lady C's Christmas card list. 😲

@GappyValley

Colin Campbell would say it Princess Di from beyond the grave if she thought it would have given her more headlines.

She doesn't have the first clue, and is only in the press because she is a freakshow who plays into their hands

Can we not use that t rm to describe her?
Oldbutstillgotit · 31/03/2021 17:13

@ Mummy195.

At 14.37 you said PW blacked up

Mummy195 · 31/03/2021 17:15

Yes, he blacked up, he was wearing a black leotard to be a black Zulu. Not sure he did actually blackface though - as in painted his face black, that is not described.

Chickychickydodah · 31/03/2021 17:18

“ lady C “ is a attention seeking nasty piece of work. I don’t believe anything that comes out of her mouth .

Samcro · 31/03/2021 17:18

Chances are that PW did something stupid when young.
Most people do.
I tried googling and could only find him dressed up for his 21st birthday, that was years ago, he is pushing 40 now.
I am sure both PW and PH have both grown up since then.

RickiTarr · 31/03/2021 17:31

@Mummy195 you said;

William made people blackface for his Savage Zulus party and said don't worry we won't be eating crocodile. Then he blacked up for the Natives party. He also told Africans they are overpopulating having too many DC, while he was expecting a third child himself.

That is not the same as wearing a leotard at an “Out of Africa” themed party. (Probably an ill-advised party theme, though it was.)

When was “his Savage Zulus party” and who was it he “made [do] blackface”?

It is quite important to know who has been caught doing what and to be accurate about it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/03/2021 17:34

See I find genetics fascinating and wonder at how different kids can look from the same parents. They don’t even look like siblings sometimes.

Where did this ludicrous idea (It is quite important to know who has been caught doing what and to be accurate about it) come from?

This is MN. We don't need no steenkin' evidence to accuse, convict and condemn if a person is perceived as being well-off / posh / wealthy / etc.

Is everyone on this thread on drugs? Grin

It’s almost as though a contingent of people are trying to blur the main issue. (Remember the one about whether a senior royal is racist or not?)

RickiTarr · 31/03/2021 17:43

Not that I can actually find a single reference to - or photo of - PW wearing a leotard to his 21st or at any other time, I should add.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 31/03/2021 17:45

Thing is this party was over 15 years ago. I think we have become more sensitive to things like this. We are judging this party on the standards of today. A lot has changed in those 15 years and this probably wouldn't be done now.

Me neither but maybe someone will provide a reliable link . Or maybe not ...

I don’t think I’ll wait. I need to cook.
Mummy195 · 31/03/2021 17:59

"Lots of people will be wondering if we're actually going to be eating crocodile, but obviously we won't be doing that," he said with a wide grin.

Arriving at Cotswolds Costumes (make-up and wigs also supplied), the three young men set about choosing their garb. "I believe William asked about a Zulu costume but we didn't have any," the shopkeeper, Maud Franklin, told a tabloid reporter. William evidently was determined to be a "native" and settled instead on a collection of leopard skins.

Prince William appeared in a leopard outfit with black leggings.

Other articles say leotard. His pic was not leaked, I don't think.

I agree, but because there was an actual picture leaked out, people are still beating H about it even today. Would not surprise me if H has a pic of W at the party, but I can't see him doing the same and leaking it to the press.
MrsKingfisher · 31/03/2021 18:03

This was such a poor decision on Lady C part, why can't people mind their own business. Least said soonest mended isn't it?

Grin The same Harry who has just thrown his family under the bus.

I disagree. A friend of the pair has already leaked that post interview talks were ‘not productive’. If things like that keep happening, people keep talking about. If you make a serious accusation, people are going to discuss and dissect. That’s normal.

I can’t remember who said it, but there was a comment like ‘can you imagine Michele Obama sitting on tv bitching about her sister in law’ and that really sums it up for me.

I think it might feel good for them to do this now, but I think it’s really going to hurt them down the line tbh. Well, him more than her tbh. She didn’t spend that much time with them, they’re not her family, she’s not the one who’s lost everything now. I’m not saying this in a bad way either, if I could be shot of my in laws, I’d do it in a heartbeat Grin
But she’s got shit going on with her own family, but that wasn’t talked about at all. The backlash will be on him.

I mean, I don’t think you can ever trust someone again who’s continually leaking conversations, I think the ‘not productive’ talk from the friend might just be the final nail in the coffin.

ginghamstarfish · 31/03/2021 18:37

Hasn't this been discussed a billion times? As MM clearly has a huge chip on her shoulder, isn't it likely that an innocent comment was twisted? Any family in the land, which has a fair haired ginger person marrying a mixed race person, would surely have someone who might speculate on what the child would look like. Hard to imagine even the crustiest member of the RF (perhaps Philip though!) saying they were 'concerned' that a child would be dark skinned.

Serenster · 31/03/2021 18:37

Times definitely were different then when it to came to sensitivities around costumes. It was only 15 years before that that Nazis were ridiculed in 'Allo 'Allo - that is still shown in reruns now). As the 2005 newspaper report says:

At Angels Costume Hire..."The Nazi uniform is a frequently-requested costume," said Emma Angel, the shop manager.

At the Party Superstore on Lavender Hill, London, a Nazi costume can be hired for £49; it is a popular choice.

"People dress up as Nazis all the time for various reasons," said Duncan Mundell, the owner"

Mummy195 · 31/03/2021 18:49

They threw themselves under the bus by being racist.

I suspect, there are loads and loads that H didi not tell us.

Serenster · 31/03/2021 18:50

I also find it hard to credit that the Royal Family would have been so horrified at the prospect of the children of a mixed-race marriage - it wasn't the first in the family in any event. Lady Davina Windsor (first cousin once removed to the Queen) was married to Gary Lewis, a Maori (a Polynesian) for many years, and they both attended Trooping the Colour and stood on the balcony along with William and Harry. Their two mixed-race children were also photographed at events with other members of the Royal Family. Everyone seems to have coped...

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 31/03/2021 18:55

The only one I’ve seen be racist is Harry, with his P* and ‘raghead’ comments.
I’m sorry, but you can’t make accusations like that and not name names.
It would be ‘very damaging for them’ if you named them? So you’ve just left it up to speculation and let the mud stick to the lot of them.
That’s really bad form.
Hash it out in private, or go NC with them and fuck them off, or any option on between, but they shouldn’t allow people to speculate about the whole family, it’s unfair.
It came from one person, yet I’ve heard everyone of them be accused at this point.

Mummy195 · 31/03/2021 18:56

She is not too uncomfortably close to the RF inner circle. Though we know nothing about how they are treated internally.

I would like to see the daughter of W's black friend marry George, then he will see how not racist the family really is.

Mummy195 · 31/03/2021 18:58

The family knows who it is.

The best that person can do is come out and apologise.
