Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

The other people I forget about are the Kent's and Gloucesters who also carry out work. But they must be aging too.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 16:31

The titles are one thing.
But when they start bickering between themselves about HRH I tune out. Still don't know or care what that's all about.

IrmaFayLear · 26/03/2021 16:33

Did anyone see Princess Anne visiting a bin factory? Harry and Meghan must be high-fiving that they have escaped this kind of duty...

Lockdownbear · 26/03/2021 16:35

@Maireas like many things they said just not consistent with themselves.

I'll be cynical Harry wants him to have no title, Meg wants the Prince title (£££).

Have a look at Royal Style on the style and beauty thread - it's covered there! It's not all glamour!
RickiTarr · 26/03/2021 16:36

@Maireas

I'm very confused by the whole titles issue. At birth, Archie could have been styled Lord Archie, the Earl of Dumbarton, or Lord Dumbarton (on Harry's death, the next Duke of Sussex) I thought Harry and Meghan had rejected this for plain Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. Fair enough. Then in the interview there was the "Prince" issue. If they wanted that, why reject Lord then and have no title? Plus, will they also reject Prince in due course, and the Duke of Sussex? Am genuinely confused.
I am so curious about this.

I find the whole business of titles bizarre, quite honestly, but since the rules exist, and Meg has made a specific complaint (about something I think she has misunderstood TBH) but the actual rules haven’t been used to give the kid a title.

I think if we knew what had really gone on there, it might illuminate quite a lot about other decisions and misunderstandings.

Again, I suspect Harry has been a truly useless go between when he could have bridged the gap between his family and MM, and clarified and soothed relationships all round.

You have to love Anne Smile all the glamour of a bin factory.

I can’t help liking Anne.
Roussette · 26/03/2021 16:39

Where are Edward & Sophie working away?

I looked, couldn't see anything. In looking I saw their ummm house, if you can call it that. The two of them, 2 children.... 4 in total.
56 acres
120 rooms. Shock Shock

RickiTarr · 26/03/2021 16:39

X post Grin

Maireas · 26/03/2021 16:40

@RickiTarr - very good point.
Harry should certainly have bridged the gap between Meghan and his family. Also maybe clued her up a bit so that there wouldn't be all the heartbreak and upset.

You know I think that's a ridiculously snobbish comment. Anne was enjoying a joke with the workers. She was there to thank them for their service. The thing that Harry and Meghan claim is universal.

I reckon they’re running an enormous BnB in that monstrosity. Which is why Sophie is always ready to whip up a batch of scones or generally be photographed cooking and prepping food these days. She’s tied to the kitchen anyway. Grin
Roussette · 26/03/2021 16:43

I'd Air BnB there. I could easily hide, I'd be no bother Grin

RickiTarr · 26/03/2021 16:45

I’d be worried about getting lost.

catinbootsx · 26/03/2021 16:50

120 rooms? Fuck that. How pointless.

Lockdownbear · 26/03/2021 16:52

Probably doing similar stuff to Anne, visiting bin factories Grin. The odd patronage and the DoE Award scheme that he took over from his Dad plus whatever else he does.
It does amaze me too when they count how many engagement the RF do in a year. Ok lots of them must be a 15min slot, turn up say a few words and move on but it's still the travel and the other stuff.

Roussette · 26/03/2021 16:53

It's very hard to get my head round it. The aerial view of it is just gobsmacking.
And yes. Very pointless.
No wonder the RF are struggling with their image when 4 of them live in a 120 room residence.

The whole lot of them could live there!

As I did, and it reminded me again why Meghan would never have made a success of royal life.

Like I said before we don’t see the royals as celebrities, we see them more like politicians - we want them to do their duty with the minimum of fuss/cost and appear to respect the public. We want to see them touring hospitals, opening community centres, visiting factories etc.

We don’t want to see them flying about on private jets, hobnobbing with A list celebrities and spending the taxpayer’s money like water. We don’t want to see them editing Vogue, tweeting baby foot photos and touting for work at film premieres.

I think it was built for one of Queen Victoria’s children. She had 8 or 9, I think. I wonder if they all got similarly huge mansions? I imagine if had a hundred or more staff originally. I would love to know how many they have now. Maybe a lot of the rooms are shut up?
Maireas · 26/03/2021 17:00

@MinnieMous3 - this, exactly.

IrmaFayLear · 26/03/2021 17:04

Absolutely, MinnieMous3.

The thought crossed my mind when I was watching the Oprah interview, that an actor should actually be very good at the job, and there was a lot of excitement about having a BAME royal (all the better to represent the country), but that the average Californian Hollywood type was the antithesis of what a makes a good royal (all that LA emphasis on self development, self promotion and self expression).

At the very least MM needed a really frank, pre-engagement briefing about how it was a team job, the palaces are all draughty and a lot of the tasks and visits involved are dull or repetitive. The reason she wasn’t properly briefed is that Harry didn’t want her scared off.

Maybe he didn’t analyse it all very well, and was just acting from a place of hurt that his previous GFs hadn’t wanted to join the family. They apparently cited the media exposure as being too much. So maybe he went out of his way to find a real extrovert, and just didn’t think it through in other aspects.

I’m increasingly thinking he is the one to blame for much of this, though, be it because of fear, loneliness, lack of realism, inability to analyse and communicate effectively, or whatever else. He did know the system, though, and she didn’t. So I think it’s on him.

Roussette · 26/03/2021 17:13

Yes Ricki those with inherited huge piles have to shut most of it because of heating bills, and then open the rest and the gardens to the public to try and recoup some money to pay for all the repairs etc.

A lot of it must be shut up for Edward and Sophie I would imagine. No idea. I think all the RF should live there, like a commune but posh Grin

Lockdownbear · 26/03/2021 17:15

Minnie mouse good summary.

A few years ago Anne was planting a tree, can't remember why, but she rolled up in her Range Rover, did her bit and drove off, no fuss, sign of security either although I suspect they might have already been at the venue.

I can't imagine Meghan doing that.
