Anyone think they are going to call the baby Diana? I think they possibly could... The Americans would love it.... Palace not so much... Win win...

Well they dont have to ask trf now, and Didi would be a nod to Diana and Doria.
Dodi is long forgotten surely!

jessstan2 · 16/03/2021 11:10

It would be lovely for her to be called Diana. I don't see why 'the Palace' would mind, Princess Charlotte had Diana amongst her names and it is a great name anyway.

Really?

Or Di Ria

ajandjjmum · 16/03/2021 12:51

@RootyT00t

There is zero chance the royal family will allow anything that sounds like Dodi.
I wouldn't think they would ask the Royal Family.
RootyT00t · 16/03/2021 12:52

You don't think Harry would in any way nor go for a name that sounds like Dodi?

Are people being ridiculously obtuse?

BabyItsAWildWorld · 16/03/2021 13:13

A first name of Diana would be an awful burden for the child. Imagine the significance placed on her every where she went.
And not just the significance of carrying the name of the most famous women who died tragically, but the added significance of doing so whilst being the 'exiled' true princess, cruelly banished over the seas due to her fathers family racism.
It would not set up a healthy narrative for a young girl to carry about herself.

I sincerely hope they give her own name to be herself, and use the family names as middle names to respect and honour family members.

I'm not usre they will though, they seem driven by resentment at the moment and seem to be in a play off with W&K to 'own' Diana, and this would feel like a boss move. But be terrible for the child.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 16/03/2021 13:17

My guess would be Lily.
It's cute like Archie.
Not royal like Archie.
A bit mainstream 10 years ago like Archie.
And a nod to the Queen Lilibet.

Lily Diana Megador Grin

Number3BigCupOfTea · 16/03/2021 13:19

I don't know, I'm 50 and I remember Diana so well and I remember being on the edge of my seat, every morning reading the paper on the way to work to see what she was up to now! But anybody under forty is going to have hazier memories of her and as for any child born in 2021, most of their parents will be under forty so I don't think it would be that bad for a child now.

Also, there are other Dianas out there. I'm in Ireland and I know two. Both my mum's age but it's not as rare as say....... Madonna Grin

Number3BigCupOfTea · 16/03/2021 13:20

Megador! that's lovely.

RememberWhenWe · 16/03/2021 13:39

@Wondermule

The cynic in me also wonders if she delayed the announcement so she could announce it just after Eugenie had given birth...
Or perhaps because she'd miscarried the previous baby? Which is a sight more likely.
MrsMackesy · 16/03/2021 16:02

@cicelyella

Or Di Ria
Why would you make this unkind 'joke' about an innocent unborn baby?

Unless...

MrsMackesy · 16/03/2021 16:08

@VanillaIce

Liberty Dioria Wink
And a similar unkind 'joke' at the expense of an innocent unborn baby here. One can only assume...
TomatoesAreFruit · 16/03/2021 17:45

Agree with the earlier poster that having a first name of Diana would be a great burden. But OK for a middle name.

Dora is a very pretty name and a nod to Doria.

Cokie3 · 17/03/2021 14:28

@RootyT00t Actually, yes, it IS misogynistic. Especially when said man is the one with the power.

Sh05 · 17/03/2021 14:51

When Charlotte was born and William and Catherine chose Diana as the last of her multiple names I always thought that William and Harry had discussed the use of their mother's name and that maybe William has purposefully kept it last so Harry could use it as a first or second name for his daughter( whenever that would be).
Remember the three of them were very close, Catherine and Harry had a sibling like relationship and as William got first dibs on everything as the eldest I think he would have left that name for Harry to use.

Sh05 · 17/03/2021 14:52

Otherwise I think Emeline shortened to Emmie.
Emeline Diana Rose.

Wondermule · 17/03/2021 19:06

@RememberWhenWe of course and that’s understandable but it just seems 🙄 she announced the very same week as Eugenie. Why not wait another two and not confirm the hater’s suspicions? It’s not like she was finding it tricky to keep quiet, nobody had a clue.

Yes yes it’s her pregnancy and she can announce when she likes but every time someone suggests a motive, she seems to confirm it.

PferdeMerde · 17/03/2021 19:14

I think they’ll go with Diana or maybe Francesca (Frances was Diana’s middle name)

JustLyra · 17/03/2021 19:22

I think it’s more likely William knew that calling his daughter “Princess Diana” would be inviting even more press attention and scrutiny on her than she’ll already face.

That would have been an amazing burden of a name.

eckerslike · 17/03/2021 19:42

I think we get a lot of US posters on here at certain times.... certainly they're MM obsessives...

eckerslike · 17/03/2021 19:43

and maybe PRs etc for the exalted couple.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 22/04/2021 10:36

As Diana was called Frances after the mother who didn't bother with her during her childhood I would not see her name as suitable choice if you are naming a baby in her honour.

Rupertbeartrousers · 22/04/2021 13:22

I think a diminutive form of a traditional name to match Archie.

Maybe Betty, Beth or Libby with Diana in there, maybe first middle name?

Also something aspirational like hope, joy, harmony in there - maybe this meaning in another language, Hebrew or Latin or something.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/04/2021 17:17

I think Alice will be the baby's first or middle name. It is the name of Prince Philip's mother.

A bit Kardashian to have kids with the same first initial but Archie and Alice is my guess. So Alice Diana Windsor (Is their last name Windsor?)
