The royal family

Harry has a lot to answer for.

I think Harry has a lot to answer for in this whole debacle. He's a 35 year old man brought up as a Royal who should know how the whole thing works and how to ensure his wife is fully educated in the rules and regs. of being a Royal. She was his wife, why on earth was she going to HR at the Palace for help with mental health problems? Harry has loads of experience and the knowledge of where to get help, what on earth was he doing? Harry knows full well that there is a rule about not being given a royal title when it comes to Archie. Why didn't he explain this to Megan? It has absolutely nothing to do with Archie's skin colour. Why is Harry moaning about having their security removed given his father paid £4m for their security after the tax payer stopped paying after they moved to California?
It is not the Royal family's decision whither or not someone has The Metropolitan Police fly over to do security duties.
Prince William sorted the press out when they were making disparaging comments about Kate, why didn't he put his foot down as his brother did?

We've never had 4 generations in direct line to the throne before

Queen Victoria, Edward VII,George V and Edward VIII were all alive at the same time (and George VI too but same generation obv). Queen Victoria had so many descendants it's not surprising that George V found the need to rein it all in.

Princes and Princesses on every street corner!

Lockdownbear · 18/03/2021 11:56

Yes I think there is another reason behind the desire for a title. £££ Earl / Viscount just doesn't sound as romantic as Prince.

It's all stuff making them both look silly.

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 18/03/2021 11:57

Yes I think Harry let Meghan down, but that in turn I think probably comes from Diana's insistence both W & H were treated the same growing up. I can't remember which book or interview it was from, but Diana said she treated both equally as she never wanted H to grow up feeling like the 'spare' to the much preferred 'heir' older brother.

Constitutionally- especially now PW has three children- PH is really not all that important. Did anybody remind H of this when MM was being sold dreams of being a Princess with her own place at the castle, and royal titles for their issue?

I really don't think H ever explained the system of deference to MM, as in his head she was equal to KM as 'the wife of one of Diana's Sons', and not the reality of their now much lower position.

First time commenting on a Royal Family thread. My take on it all is I am still stuck on H didn’t meet (and has never met) his FIL before the wedding. Nope, still can’t get past that. Is it just me? Why on earth didn’t someone at the palace, his Godparents, an aide, Prince Charles, someone anyone say something? I realise I am three years or so behind on events at this point but there you go, just can’t get past that.

I personally hate fuss and formality but you meet your other half’s parents don’t you? And this is the British Royal Family, what were they thinking?

Lockdownbear · 18/03/2021 12:16

I think they jointly went too fast. A year from meeting to engagement is fast in normal circumstances.

Throw in moving continents and an expectation of joining the family business and giving up your own career.

Diana had the excuse of being young and naive. What's Meghans excuse?
She wanted it as much if not more than he did.

I don't understand it either Pepper.
Pepper54 · 18/03/2021 12:21

Thanks derxa, it’s not just me! Someone should have insisted given how high profile the Royal Family is. So odd.

Lockdownbear · 18/03/2021 12:26

Lots of it doesn't add up.
At the time I thought great, lovely for them.

Now I think we've all been played and Harry will be cast aside in due course.

Oldbutstillgotit · 18/03/2021 12:29

@ Pepper54

Add me to the list who doesn’t understand either and have said so many times .

User27aw · 18/03/2021 12:31

I think MM was embarrassed by her dad. She wanted to keep him away from Harry in case he put Harry off.

SallyLockheart · 18/03/2021 12:35

William suggested slow down and has been vilified by Harry for saying so.
Can you imagine Harry taking well the suggestion that he should meet his prospective FIL before marrying? Everyone was so pleased he was happy and engaged - and didn't want to burst his bubble.
Perhaps they have always known how prickly and immature he is?

My feelings exactly. I doubt she ever planned to give Royal life a good go.

yawn Let him live his life and worry about your own.

Pepper54 · 18/03/2021 12:54

Re MM being embarrassed by her Dad. We all have one dodgy family member though, that’s life isn’t it Grin. Once you hit your twenties or certainly by your thirties I think we all realise that life is messy and for every war hero or professor in the family tree there are half a dozen minor criminals or in my case quite a lot of illiterate pig farmers.

I think MM’s Dad is not all bad, he has lots of good points but he was handled very badly by H/the palace and now we just see the weak parts.

I had better get off MN now, the bathroom needs a proper scrub.

Well yes but he took up 2 hours of my life last week that I'll never get back.
Lockdownbear · 18/03/2021 13:05

Any one else think the potential colour conversation could have been part of the same conversation of William telling him to slow down?

I think the potential mixed race baby conversation would have been before the wedding, I mean it's a bit late once the rings on her finger and bun in the oven!

Itsalonghaul · 18/03/2021 13:33

I don't think for a minute that William would be so stupid and ignorant as to raise such a thing with his brother at any stage. I simply don't believe it at all.

And this is the problem with the interview, that now they have allowed the speculation to grow and grow, and the RF have a very fixed policy about not publicly announcing anything one way or another. It is grossly unfair that none of them are able to defend themselves. Nor are they able to confirm what was said and how they remember it. So they are having to try and learn to live with being labelled something so appallingly offensive. It is far from ideal. We may never know the truth.

The papers have dropped trying to find the culprit. I find that interesting in itself, I always thought there would be a witch hunt to find out, but that does not seem to have happened.

It is desperately sad no matter what was said that Meghan is left with a feeling that it may have been racist. I think needs addressing. Assuming that what Harry told her was the truth? We have to remember that Harry has had some pretty serious MH problems, and the comments happened four years ago. So I don't know what to think, apart from the need for each side of the family to get on with their lives and leave things where they are. Clearly there is no love lost at all between them, and they have very different visions of the future.

We were but then he decided to do an interview on Oprah. That has now been broadcast all over the world. However you are right we should respect his privacy Grin

Diana had the excuse of being young and naive. What's Meghans excuse? She wanted it as much if not more than he did.

This is what has puzzled me.

MM talking about feminism and being a feminist, yet willingly joined the most long-lived patriarchal institution in human civilisation. Did Harry sell her the line that she could waltz in, as a divorced American WOC and revolutionise the RF? They still bow and curtsey to their own family when they walk in a room, for Christ's sake! The RF isn't a place for individuality and flourish. He should have made that clear to MM, what she was getting into.
He should have told her that her beliefs and values would have zero impact on their ancient institution, and her role will be to nod, smile, curtsey to Kate and be quiet.
If she really wanted to do all that, he should have left the family to be with her, or let her go.

I mean, come on.

eckerslike · 18/03/2021 14:01

On the other side of the coin, DDOC are out and about again today.....only serving to highlight the difference between duty and the self serving grifters in Cali.

Roussette · 18/03/2021 14:11

What?

H&M are not tied to the RF now so they can do what they want. Grifters? How rude.

Good to see K&W are doing something.

eckerslike · 18/03/2021 14:16

How would you describe their behaviour then? Honourable, kind, compassionate?!

Give me a break.

Itsalonghaul · 18/03/2021 14:17

H&M are not tied to the RF now so they can do what they want

Within reason, as long as they are not hurting others for profit.

I agree.

I think that H said that it "was at the beginning", but that also he knew that M was "the one" after their second date. So I think he told W that he wanted to marry M very soon after meeting her. The conversation then would be about being sure, especially as the press would go crazy as M is American and a WOC. The comment was probably something to do with the newspaper articles really being insane if they had a really dark skinned baby, and could H deal with that? Not great, but it does fit with someone expressing concern.

Roussette · 18/03/2021 14:20

Grifters they are not. You wanted them to earn their own money, that's what they are doing. A grifter is someone who swindles. That's pathetic to call them that.

Won't be replying again. The venom about them on here is beyond a joke.
