The royal family

What were Harry and Meghan hoping to achieve?

This is an honest question not a chance to bash anyone. I'm curious about why Harry and Meghan would do this and what the consequences could be. They must have realised the massive fall-out this would cause. This could be the end of Harry's relationship with his family. But for what? Sympathy? Increased profiles? Honesty?

This is the 3rd time for telling their truth though isn it ? First, The Africa interview which bombed as it was a woe is me against a backdrop of Well rape victims. The second finding freedom that she denied having anything to do with. That bombed too and because of the court case she had to reword it and say actually she did have something to do with it. And now this. The reason people take issue with her is because she doesnt own it. If sheis trying to be Perfect Princess. while bitch slapping kate . So people are like err... which is it?

In Mumsnet terms, they Left The Bastards.

Good on them for telling the truth and defending themselves.

I hope they have a wonderful life in warm weather, earning their own millions and doing and saying whatever they like.

I hope the whole concept of a British royal family dies with Elizabeth.

BobsDouble · 10/03/2021 06:35

Attention.
Upset certain members of the royal family
Income in the short to medium term from various US sources
More attention

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 10/03/2021 06:37

I didn’t think Harry looked very well, or very comfortable in that interview.

I worry about him... much less about Megan. She’s one tough cookie.

Still can’t get my head around them wanting to move to CA to enjoy their ‘privacy’ and then doing an interview with Oprah.

But yes, it’s for the money. Just not too sure how long their allure will last, and Harry’s going to need to eat a whole heap of humble pie if he wants to return to the RF.

newstart1234 · 10/03/2021 06:49

But the problem is they didn’t ‘leave the bastards’ . They’re website is (was?) ‘royal Sussex’ and they said that they want to be ‘half in half out’ - they want to make money off their privilege (Eg watch the James cordon ‘interview’) but be able to slag off the very same institution.

I fully support them leaving the bastards, they just haven’t.

Wannabangbang · 10/03/2021 06:53

Hoping for money from the firm she absolutely hates. You can't expect top security if you are no longer a royal. Money for security I'm guessing

PowerhouseMamma · 10/03/2021 06:59

Whatever they set out to achieve it has had more effect than they realise.

They have totally discredited the British monarchy. You might think that is alright, but I don't and I am pro-republic. I actually think this will have a knock on effect on our economic recovery. Our monarchy gets used quite a lot to sure up contracts and create relationships with other countries. Now she and the Kings in waiting have lost credibility. They have been accused of being racists. Thsi stuff sticks. Our whole country is now seen as an island of racists. Even the US president came out and supported her. Do you think that is going to be awkward when we eventually welcome him to the UK and he hob knob's with the Queen?

For me I see M&H, who I refuse from now to call Prince or Duke/Duchess as they don't deserve it, acted like spoilt brats. I know people like this in real life. They take the facts and twist them for their own ends. Harry is a damaged, unsupported manchild who has fallen in love with an equally damaged person who has form for throwing people under buses when she doesn't get her own way or they have a minor falling out, as family do. Her dad, paternal family, her mum (why did she live with her dad age 11-college?), Jessica Mulroney, her ex husband and now the whole royal family.

What did they want? I think M wanted revenge. I think H is weak and like a lot of men. I don't like my in-laws and it would be very easy for me to turn on the water works and get my DH to see less of them and move further away, but then I don't get off on divide and conquer. She has done this. I think they wanted the RF to backtrack and say OK, here is your Prince title, here is your massive castle and 4 SUV's of FBI paid for by the British Tax Payers. Go do what you like and we will still pay. I think M&H are both very naive.

The person I feel most sorry for here is Charles. He's a knob but he loves his DC. He has paid for a lot for them and they have humiliated him. He doesn't deserve this. It's like when I say to my DC that they are lucky to have what they do when they moan to me and they then say "I didn't ask for any of that".

I hope that as Brits our press just don't cover them anymore and cut off their narcissistic supply.

StartupRepair · 10/03/2021 07:01

They want the final word. Don't think they have thought through the rest of their lives with no family except for Meghan's Mum, no cousins for Archie and new baby.
Harry's speaking circuit speech is all about the importance of mental health. I think it will fall a bit flat in future as he said he didn't know how to make an appointment for his wife.
I think Meghan has extended one off incidents across the whole 20 months she was in the Royal family. There was probably one occasion when they asked her not to go out and be photographed having lunch as there was something else on in the family that day. She describes this as being locked in for 4 months.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/03/2021 07:10

Powerhouse
I agree, I also thought about our standing.

Brexshit and Covid has affected this country’s standing. Meghan wanting the final word is the final nail in our coffin.

Happymum12345 · 10/03/2021 07:21

I wondered this too. We will never know the whole truth as to what happened.

NativityDreaming · 10/03/2021 07:23

Why shouldn’t they speak their piece? What would they gain by staying silent?

It is obvious the RF wanted them to toe the line but I don’t see the benefits for them in doing that. Silence would equal agreeing with how they were treated, agreeing with how they were portrayed.

There is so much trash written about them why shouldn’t they clear things up?

APJ1 · 10/03/2021 07:25

I think they will try and be the Royal Family of the United States.

Nah, that's the Kardashians!

skodadoda · 10/03/2021 07:28

@justinhawkinsnavalfluff

Harry finally wanted his voice and Meghan wanted vengeance for all her perceived ills.
‘Perceived’ being the key word.
Beefcurtains79 · 10/03/2021 07:28

I agree about it affecting our economic recovery. Plus America will be quite happy to label us as the biggest racists in the western world, they had to wear that badge because of Trump and want rid of it.

isitfridayyet1 · 10/03/2021 07:29

They want people to realise that the press bullying and harassment is unacceptable and unbearable. At the end of the day they are human being and don't deserve the onslaught of the British public and press.

It's disgraceful how awful they are treated compared to Prince Andrew who was associating with a convicted sex offender!

Sprining · 10/03/2021 07:31

I am glad they spoke up. It takes courage to do that. Everyone needs to speak up about mental health, bullying and racism.

There is no neutral stance on these matters. By being silent you are part of the problem. And she has probably helped lots of women who may have similar thoughts during pregnancy to say it’s ok and seek help

skodadoda · 10/03/2021 07:32

@Plexie

To build a marketable brand that they can commercialise to create income.

The interview reminded me of those scam emails that contain grammatical errors and typos that are supposed to weed out on-the-ball people and ensnare the gullible. There were so many inconsistencies and contradictions that are obvious to UK viewers or anyone with a decent level of knowledge about the Royal Family, but are being swallowed by the more general American/worldwide audience. That's the audience they are aiming at, to portray an appearance of victimhood to elicit sympathy which they can trade on.

Completely agree with you. I’ve been slammed on another thread about H&M for ‘daring’ to criticise what they said. I’m relieved to find that I’m not BU.
Clutterbugsmum · 10/03/2021 07:33

Because as all these thread show is that people are so polarized in their perception of Harry and Meghan that it doesn't matter in what they do or don't they are vilified as selfish money grabbing.

I personally feel Meghan is the Camilla of this time. The public liked it when Harry was single and turned against him when it became clear that he was serious about Meghan. And like how it was Camilla came out into the 'public eye' she was hounded, lies were spread about like confetti.

I'm not saying they haven't made mistakes in their behaviour, but so have William and Kate and nothing has been said about that.

isitfridayyet1 · 10/03/2021 07:37

@PowerhouseMamma I think that's a step too far saying that this will effect the uk economy!. Wow the lengths people go to to blame Meaghan and Harry for things have no barriers! I wonder if you've held Boris Johnson and his cronies to such high scrutiny. Their performance over the pandemic has been shocking. He has openly lied to the public, MPs, given contracts to friends for important tenders, made decisions which have directly led to people dying!
It's crazy how people's minds have been warped to hate and blame someone like meaghan when much worse has been done and still is being done by people who actually hold the power in the nation!

Flyingdr · 10/03/2021 07:37

They wanted to force the RF's hand so they get more money and better titles, more rights to exploit the royal brand by throwing around value allegations of racism within the institution and by painting them as meanies.

What they'll get is to never be seen in with the RF on public duty again and for Charles to change the law so that Harry's kids can never be titled princes and princesses.

They have shot themselves in the foot but ultimately this will be the better outcome for the RF. It will hurt them for a while but they WILL slim down the monarchy and cut out these backstabbing wannabes.

Flyingdr · 10/03/2021 07:38

vague allegations

lollipoprainbow · 10/03/2021 07:38

The daily mail still relentlessly slating them in their articles today, have they learnt nothing ???

LemonTT · 10/03/2021 07:41

I expect they did it for the same reason that you OP started this thread or the tabloids hounded her.

Some people can’t let an issue go. Even if it is toxic or done to death.

Are you right to keep this discourse going? Maybe, maybe not.

Seems a lot of you want your voice to be heard.

malificent7 · 10/03/2021 07:41

Good grief...now Megan is responsible for the imminent collapse of our economy on top of everything else! Grin you'd blame her for armageddon given the chance.
