What were Harry and Meghan hoping to achieve?

This is an honest question not a chance to bash anyone. I'm curious about why Harry and Meghan would do this and what the consequences could be. They must have realised the massive fall-out this would cause. This could be the end of Harry's relationship with his family. But for what? Sympathy? Increased profiles? Honesty?

@Wannabangbang you used some outdated racist language in your post (now deleted), I take your word for it that you're not racist. Totally agree it should be possible to criticise M for her actions without being accused of racism.

TheBugHouse · 10/03/2021 18:46

She was very convincing. I felt sorry for her. Afterwards I thought... actually Prince Charles funded their security for quite a while. Prince Charles was lovely with her mum at the wedding too. Meg went off on a hen do, she had her passport then . I’m sure the palace admin just held it for the convenience of booking her flights for trips etc. I really don’t think she was a prisoner. I also think it’s far fetched that the ‘firm’ didn’t like her being popular on the overseas trip. Makes no sense!!!
If she struggled with depression I’m sure her health visitor should have spotted pnd? The heads together work meant harry must have more contacts for mental health help that I could shake a stick at. I’ve had terrible mental health but still has the common sense to look online for help, so much signposting. ...The gp will always refer etc. Odd.

@wenning

I've just read reports that the Duchess of Cambridge has received over a million death threats in 48 hours following the broadcast of the interview.
People on twitter are blaming Meghan for this. Pathetic.
somethingonthecarpet · 10/03/2021 18:47

The driving licence thing is simple (I know this because dh is an 'immigrant') - you can drive on your foreign licence for one year after arriving in the UK. After one year, you are no longer allowed, and must take a UK test.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 10/03/2021 18:47

Wonder who's job it was to count them

Wannabangbang · 10/03/2021 18:48

That's the thing anyone not in agreement with her actions is being called racist. I also think Harry is a wet blanket, he wasn't really in the interview for very long at all and didn't have much to say. If all this is true i don't understand why he wasn't at her side throughout. It seemed so awkward.

IrmaFayLear · 10/03/2021 18:50

@HmmmmmmInteresting - your posts are coming across as rather nasty - you don’t have to be Sussex or Die - it is possible to see the good and bad in both “sides”.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/03/2021 18:52

I worked in MH for over 10 years, some of the worst people for dismissing/minimising MH problems were people who worked in the sector. Always the first to recommend seeking help to others, not quite so keen on getting help for themselves or family members. It was as though they were ashamed.Sad

scottsdc15 · 10/03/2021 18:52

@DioneTheDiabolist

They are petty. Their problems are petty.

Mental health problems are not petty. Suicide ideation is not petty.

Fair point.

Mental health issues are not petty, but their issues with their family are.

And I don't think her suicide ideation is believable. I think she lied about seeking help, lied about the implications of her 'keys and passport' being taken away, so I don't believe the suicide claims either. She does not come across as a truthful person.

somethingonthecarpet · 10/03/2021 18:53

I also think Oprah should have asked her, when she said she 'wanted to go somewhere' when her mental health was failing - where exactly did she want to go? The therapist they all use in London? Or does she mean a therapist/retreat outside the UK perhaps? Because since Harry and William had therapy, and Diana, I cannot imagine that a request for the same would not/could not be granted. Doesn't make sense. Her use of the word 'somewhere' is odd. Why not say she wanted to 'see someone'?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/03/2021 18:53

I think Charles feels he has given them a lot of money

Speaking of which, does anyone know if the claim about Charles cutting off their money is provable?

I'm aware - who isn't? - that the Duchy's finances are said to be pretty impenetrable, but I'm just wondering if this is something we'll ever actually know

NoMackerelInSwindon · 10/03/2021 18:53

She does not come across as a truthful person.

She is an Actor.

I haven't seen you calling out the nasty Meghan-bashing posts. So sorry for hurting your feelings

@DioneTheDiabolist

The point of the Catherine/Meghan crying story was to highlight the media problem fed by the palace. It was a great example of the nasty way MM was treated.
The palace chose to not address stories about petty situations. If they did that, they would be on the phone all day. Choosing not to address petty stories is not "nasty" treatment. MM is incredibly thin skinned, for a princess and for an adult.

Your claim that the media problem was fed by the palace is unverifiable.

IrmaFayLear · 10/03/2021 18:58

@HmmmmmmInteresting - I did not find Kate receiving death threats amusing, as you clearly did. That’s actually a bit sick and I am offended that someone could be so, well, weird.

PowerhouseMamma · 10/03/2021 19:00

Well done Harry, you must be so proud.

As if she received a million death threats. People will believe anything they read.

Gadzookery · 10/03/2021 19:02

so what's the acceptable level of death threats then?!

PowerhouseMamma · 10/03/2021 19:02

The heads together work meant harry must have more contacts for mental health help that I could shake a stick at.

Or, they could have flown Doria over who was, up until 2018, a social worker specialising in mental health to help her out.

IrmaFayLear · 10/03/2021 19:03

@HmmmmmmInteresting

I have reported you to MN. I hardly ever report a post, but you have overstepped the mark and have made unacceptably unpleasant posts.

Stratfordplace · 10/03/2021 19:03

Harry didn’t brief battalions for battle. The first sign of being under attack he was helicoptered out if there. There’s a documentary that shows this.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/03/2021 19:04

Your claim that the media problem was fed by the palace is unverifiable.
No, it isn't. More than one royal correspondent referenced this, saying that the "leak" about MM making CC cry came from "an impeccable source" within the household.

VanillaIce · 10/03/2021 19:04

The point of the Catherine/Meghan crying story was to highlight the media problem fed by the palace. It was a great example of the nasty way MM was treated

Nah, she told that story to settle a score with Kate. Unless that was her only example of mistreatment by the press? Surely not. So why use that particular example? She knew it was tv gold.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/03/2021 19:04

Given the chicanery that goes on behind the scenes I'm not sure about the "transparent" bit, but you're right that accounts are published

If the money people have any sense, and if there's any variance from H&M's story, it could be a useful way to make this clear. As said I wouldn't necessarily take the accounts on trust either, but at least it would be a reasonably "neutral" way to answer back without actually being seen to do so
