I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.

@redspecial

IME there was more speculation on the baby's hair colour (ginge) than skin colour.

what have you done Captain Wales, you silly twat.

^ this.

We speculated as to whether our DCs would be tall like their dad, or short like me. Have their dads blonde hair or my dark hair. Would they inherit the funny thing that me, my DM and my DGM can do with our thumbs, or not.

People speculate about what their kids and other people's kids will like like. It's not racism.

Thanks @AgeLikeWine - sounds like she was not telling the truth when she said they got married in secret three days before the wedding then.

Are you people being deliberately obtuse? Meghan said "a member of the Royal Family voiced concerns over the colour of baby Archie's skin."

That's clearly not the same as innocent, curious speculation between parents-to-be.

I like a bit of solid evidence when explosive accusations are made. This is just going to turn into a witch-hunt.

The long term loser in all this is going to be Harry but he doesn't know that yet.

Indeed.

It will be very interesting to see how many more of her claims & allegations unravel over the next few days... 🍿

OK so 2 things: whatever many millions Diana left Harry may well have doubled since her death as no doubt its been invested in a high interest account. There people have good bankers. Wasn't too impressed with the whole "poor me, having to live off my enormous personal wealth" tbh.

Secondly : she didn't know she had to curtsey to the Queen until said Queen was coming down the driveway????

Christ Meg, Google is your friend!

I mean, WTF???? Shock

I don't have any sympathy for them and think they should now give up their titles and have absolutely nothing to do with a family and institution they despise so much.

Exactly this. I am clearly missing something, why are they so keen to hang on to royal titles, royal money and royal privileges when they clearly despise the royal family so much?

@OverweightPidgeon

I think they should go the whole hog and fight it out on Facebook.

Can you imagine the family WhatsApp! Shock

If that was it, I don't see they have much to complain about. I'm sure the warm welcome into the family, unprecedented invitations, fairytale high profile wedding, wearing Queen Mary's tiara, let alone marrying the man you loved and being blessed with a beautiful healthy baby boy would have made up for the 'dreadful' slights brought into the open in the 'interview' - at least it would for most people, no? And feeling suicidal? Really? Our tabloids are shit, but I don't remember anything but excitement and joy at the time. Any criticisms from the press could be avoided and/or ignored?

I really don't get it. But I don't think the RF should bother responding to accusations - not publicly anyway - notwithstanding, the HR review into bullying of employees (generally).

I thought it was interesting that it was Harry who had the ‘concerns’ about the skin colour voiced to him but Meghan who talked about it in the interview before Harry came on from the look of it (have only seen clips).

The most striking things for me was that, ‘she still expected their security costs to met’ and that ‘she wrote to Royal Family about it’. Words from her own mouth.

Yes, MM and PH are deluded. Why would the state pick up the bill for their security?

It's clearly aimed at building their brand in the US, why else would she claim that Archie is being denied the title of Prince because he is mixed race. Unless she is also claiming that King George V saw this coming 🤣.

I'm not even a monarchist but the self entitled, spoilt attitude and lack of empathy in these two is becoming apparent.

They should shut up now, it is all so childish. I say that despite the fact that the RF are no angels either.

They decided they wanted to cut their ties with RF, fine nobody stopped them.

They should have put their heads down, bought a house that was secluded but not with x million number of rooms, and got on with their lives as they wished to do.

Since neither of them have regular working income, there is a possibility that the Diana money just might run out. Get a job then you two!

I know there are two sides to every story, but THEY made the decision to leave, so they should get on with it, with dignity and grace, and silence!

Are you people being deliberately obtuse? Meghan said "a member of the Royal Family voiced concerns over the colour of baby Archie's skin." she hasn't said who. she is very litigious herself, yet has gone for the nuclear option on her husbands family without saying anything that might be actionable by an individual.

If they were so unhappy and maltreated, why did they want to stay half in only picking the glossy events they wanted, retain all the titles and patronages, set up as 'Sussex Royal' or want the highest title possible for their kid, Its all bullshit. a strop because what they want, they didn't necessarily get.

@BlackBrowedAlbatross

I haven't seen the interview but can someone correct me about the security thing - I thought they had security while they were living at Frogmore, but the problem arose when they stopped working as royals, so the taxpayer could no longer be expected to pay for it? And then that was exacerbated by them moving countries? And then they had a deal with Charles where he agreed to fund it short term until they were financially independent? What is it that they are complaining about?

That's what I understood at the time too. Other than their self entitled attitude, I can't fathom why they would expect the British tax payer to foot their security bill, once they were no longer working royals.

Seems the witch-hunt is well underway!

Which is exactly what they knew would happen by being so vague. It's beyond unfair that every Royal is now under suspicion and they have no ability to defend themselves and prove their innocence.

@MrPickles73

There will be heaps of millionaires and billionaires in london and the states who pay for their own security

Yes, exactly. Are the US taxpayers picking up the bill for George Clooney, Brad Pitt etc security bill?

ruruvision · 08/03/2021 14:38

It's really unfair to intimate racism on the RF's part without a) giving details so that the audience can make up their own mind, and b) saying who it is so that they can defend themselves.

FWIW I'm a POC woman married to a white man, and each time I was pregnant, we - and our family - discussed in completely non-racist terms whether our children would be dark or fair skinned/haired, who they would look more like, etc.

Is it possible the RF individual meant something similar? Could Meghan's anxiety at the time have made her extra sensitive?

I don't blame Charles for stopping taking calls

I don’t think any of us really know what happened there. But one this is for sure, this interview was not the way for Harry to heal the rift with his Father.

As someone whose had her fair share of family drama, I can’t stand it when people air dirty laundry in public. The person going around discussing family problems usually takes control of the narrative and the other side gets painted as the bad guy. It does irreparable damage.
