I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.

It must have been very tempting to respond in kind but they've decided to try to take the temperature down a notch.

DoubleTweenQueen · 09/03/2021 18:10

I would say the statement is warm, and measured, but also questioning. Exceedingly diplomatic. Wouldn't have expect anything less, although they have all been put in a very difficult position.

twelly · 09/03/2021 18:11

Without being there none of us know what said. Do I think the RF are racist - no

dopenguinsdance · 09/03/2021 18:12

Thomas Markle has made the point in today's interviews that he's been ostracized by his daughter and accused by her of behaving badly "but at least I never dressed up as a Nazi or played naked pool' Smile.
Glad to see that HM isn't indulging in any tit for tat. At least someone's remaining dignified as opposed to disneyfied.

DeRigueurMortis · 09/03/2021 18:15

I think it's a good response from the palace.

Acknowledging the issues whilst not getting into a public slanging match.

DoubleTweenQueen · 09/03/2021 18:18

@Kimye4eva it says 'while some recollections may vary', which can refer to the whole timeframe/set of experiences alluded to.

Lampzade · 09/03/2021 18:18

@dopenguinsdance

And they have their answer "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
Recollections may vary and it will be addressed privately= In other words someone did say something about Archie’s race but we will ignore this publicly and claim to sort this out privately

He hasn't been "ostracized", he rejected himself, sulked, blamed her for not chasing him, then raged that she loves someone who isn't him.

Crap parents and spouses like him are a dime a dozen across in the relationships board.

He's utterly self absorbed and no doubt a complete pain in the arse.

dopenguinsdance · 09/03/2021 18:20

But perhaps they're not, Ostryga? After all, the 'interview' was less interview and more leading question/statement and confirmation by omission. The interviewees were very careful not to make any direct allegations. There were a lot of innuendoes, heavy hints, and head tilting going on, though, and nothing they said was interrogated or challenged.

I agree. I bet there was lots of temptation to be as curt and direct as Meghan and Harry were but rather sensibly they chose to be very measured.
DoubleTweenQueen · 09/03/2021 18:20

I suppose you can read into it whatever suits you

redspecial · 09/03/2021 18:21

great response.

they're not playing. quite right too.

PheasantPlucker1 · 09/03/2021 18:21

I read it as Harry and Meghans accounts varying, not as an admission.

As no one will say what was said or by whom, I dont see how any investigation can really happen. Only Harry and the person who said it know what was said, or how it was meant.

VanillaIce · 09/03/2021 18:22

The more I read it, the more I love the official response. It’s very dignified.

Dave20 · 09/03/2021 18:22

I think it’s best the Royal family say nothing. Especially after Andrews disastrous interview last time.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 09/03/2021 18:22

I agree. Well played the Queen!

VanillaIce · 09/03/2021 18:23

I’d love to rummage through the waste paper basket to read the early drafts....

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/03/2021 18:24

A very measured "we have no intention of getting in to a public tit for tat" statement

There's nothing else they could really do - H&M have shown they have a massively grudge, are willing to use the biggest media available, and will lie. How else do you deal with that but to try to de-escalate and hope they bugger off?

Same4Walls · 09/03/2021 18:24

Oh I bet they would make very interesting reading.

Bingo.

"I said that bad thing but I really meant [insert more palatable nonsense I of course never meant]".

I think it was William as Charles was in a jaunty good mood today and William and Kate...really weren't.

They're panicking as William is meant to be the "good one". If it was William, now the succession doesn't have a wife abuser then a nice young man, it has a wife abuser and then a stonking big racist. Oops.

Janegrey333 · 09/03/2021 18:27

What are you trying to say? It’s as clear as mud here.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 09/03/2021 18:29

I think the response took so long coming because the early drafts were sparkier but the Queen with her usual sangfroid ensured the final version sounded mature and measured.

DoubleTweenQueen · 09/03/2021 18:29

It must be comforting, throwing slander around under the anonymity of SM

Katie2017 · 09/03/2021 18:29

That says to me on second read through "Harry and Meghans claims seem to vary but we take these allegations very seriously none the less"

Oldbutstillgotit · 09/03/2021 18:30

Very measured statement from HM .
PC’s are denying he cut them off financially.
