I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.

@Dave20

Hold on!... didn’t Harry dress up as a nazi a few years ago? And didn’t he use the term paki when talking about an army friend too?
Aye. But he's woke now Grin so that goes under the really big carpet
Thewinterofdiscontent · 09/03/2021 17:32

Lampzade There was lots of criticism by environmental groups and was in all the papers.
Charles issued a statement that he offset the carbon and that it was sometimes impossible to meet all the time, distance and security requirements of his role without using private flights. And it wasn’t his choice - transport us arranged for him.

Not quite the same as a week in the sun or meeting your mates in New York,

Janegrey333 · 09/03/2021 17:38

Yes, the donning of the Nazi “fancy dress” uniform should have been brought up by Winfrey when Harry was getting shrill about racism. What was that if not racism?

Janegrey333 · 09/03/2021 17:41

Oh and yes, he’s on camera joshing his army mate and calling him P*. Charming. More racism right there AND more hypocrisy.

Porcupineintherough · 09/03/2021 17:45

So what's your arguement? Because Harry was anti semitic, Meghan and Archie are fair game for a bit lot of racism?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 09/03/2021 17:48

Why put fancy dress in quotes. It was a fancy dress party.
Maybe in bad taste but it’s not like fancy dress is about anything but wearing an outrageous costume. He clearly not racist.

I’d like William to put out a message. Maybe he could have a tear in the eye for the brother who has chosen to hurt his family, the nephew he never sees and the cousin his children won’t know....really lay it on.
I may watch too much TV.

This is where I am disappointed in Harry. He could have used the interview as a platform to be open about his past mistakes, how his previous behaviour was unacceptable, how ashamed he is, how young and foolish he was, how much he has learnt and grown, etc.

Harry actually said he was "a bit" shocked, when this conversation was had. Not horrified or appalled or extremely upset. Why not?

I too am wondering whether this episode just grew legs and got out of hand. Pure speculation of course, like everything else on these threads, but it might perhaps have been someone chatting with Harry about future children and pointing out that the press might have a field day if they saw darker skin and that Harry would need to be prepared for the subsequent reporting, as he would find it hurtful.

twelly · 09/03/2021 17:52

A capital offence ? Really?

redspecial · 09/03/2021 17:58

He could have used the interview as a platform to be open about his past mistakes, how his previous behaviour was unacceptable, how ashamed he is, how young and foolish he was, how much he has learnt and grown, etc. indeed he could, as well as using the platform to talk about the mental health of others and the racism suffered by others. Instead its a pile of tosh about having to put his hand into his own pocket instead of poncing off his old man and the taxpayer.

He apparently was desperate to keep their commonwealth, military and other patronages, yet at that point had already blown his load to Oprah about being 'trapped' by it all or some drivel.

Compassion? Service? fuck off, not buying it.

Janegrey333 · 09/03/2021 17:58

A capital offence? Wow. Hmm

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 09/03/2021 17:59

Palace have just issued a statement.

Exactly. They thought they could pick and choose. Laughable.
Liquorishtoffee · 09/03/2021 17:59

Oohhhh where?

dopenguinsdance · 09/03/2021 18:00

And they have their answer
"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."

fallfallfall · 09/03/2021 18:02

i hope the royal family say NOTHING.
the interview is full of holes and bs. security, titles, etc.
i for one believed very little of it and think much less of them for it.
if they want a private life than lead one privately and stop stirring up drama.

Liquorishtoffee · 09/03/2021 18:03

Ah so not ‘so do you want to come and say that to my face? Granny is very upset...’

twelly · 09/03/2021 18:04

The statement shows that the recollection of what was said is not accurate

ajandjjmum · 09/03/2021 18:08

Handled very neatly.

Janegrey333 · 09/03/2021 18:08

The Palace should not have been put in this position. The behaviour of the Sussexes is reprehensible.

Kimye4eva · 09/03/2021 18:08

@twelly

It shows there is a differing of opinion on the conversation, but also is an admission that the conversation took place.
ivykaty44 · 09/03/2021 18:09

there are always more than 2 sides to history, no different here, different people effected in different ways

Ostryga · 09/03/2021 18:09

@twelly

Well of course they’re not going to say “we’re raging racists and hate brown people” are they Hmm
