I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.

@redspecial maybe his mother would have been ashamed at his spineless brother who left him and his wife to be savaged by the media without one ounce of support?

DogsAreShit · 09/03/2021 16:44

I think, once a person hears of a racist remark directed at their unborn child, they have the absolute right to deal as they wish with that information.

The problem is not how the person subject to racism behaves, but racism itself. That is the problem. Racism directed at an unborn child. A child whose mother knows and lives the implications of skin tone, passing, darkness etc, knows in excruciating detail the social, financial and physical safety implications that will hang over her baby every time a white person raises the subject.

And who has told us all that talk of her baby's skin tone was voiced as a concern by our ruling family.

I mean, I'm not sure what a best first response is to this information but sitting around saying "ooh she's handled that badly" is definitely not it.

Unsure33 · 09/03/2021 16:45

The thing is technically they have accused the Royal family of racist comments. This is against the law .

So if I was the Royal family I would be saying : of course we wish to investigate the accusations of racism. So if the full details of the time , context and exact words are provided , we will of course begin a thorough investigation and the conclusions will be published if Harry and Meghan require them to be.

DogsAreShit · 09/03/2021 16:48

This is against the law.

Which law is that then?

MariaAngustias · 09/03/2021 16:50

They should all go on Jeremy Kyle and have lie detector tests.

redspecial · 09/03/2021 16:55

@Porcupineintherough oh good grief Harry is a middle aged man is everything everyone else's job to sort out for him? Harry forced his wife out of the house at a time she claims to have been suicidal. Is that William's fault too?

If Harry didn't want to be a working royal he needn't have been. William had a job before going all in to learn the ropes before its his turn. None of the Queen's other grandchildren are full time working royals they have jobs. Harry could have got off his arse and forged ahead with his life doing whatever long before he even got married.

Porcupineintherough · 09/03/2021 16:55

@Unsure33 which law is that then?

Porcupineintherough · 09/03/2021 16:59

Good grief nothing. Not one member of that miserable family spoke up to defend them as they (and particularly Meghan) were lambasted by the press. The only good thing about this is their behaviour has been left open for the world to judge - and believe me they are judging.

Janegrey333 · 09/03/2021 17:06

I absolutely think Diana, his mother, would not be in favour of his behaviour.

Stratfordplace · 09/03/2021 17:07

They only started to get bad press when they started preaching wokeness to everyone whilst taking private jets and living a lavish lifestyle themselves. The Brits had hypocrites.

Exactly. He is like a spoilt brat whining about this or that and blaming everyone else for everything possible. Sometimes it is easy to forget he is only 36.
🙄🙄🙄

I’m not so sure - after her own tv interview ‘exclusive’. She didn’t have much truck with the royal family. I think she would have loved to have been able to walk away on her own terms and go and live abroad with a new partner/possible kids.
redspecial · 09/03/2021 17:13

but they don't speak up. its not their way. its not the way of a lot of people and families. support privately yes and this probably happened to an extent but running to the media to kick off in support is excessive. The RF are many things but they're not a bunch of quick tempered blowhards.

As for Charles no longer taking Harry's calls, he is 72 years old. From reports of staff being bombarded with contact he was probably under siege in a similar and got sick to the back teeth after hundreds of demands for more pocket money.

This couple would still be living in Canada if the Canadian taxpayers had happily let these two ponce off them. Its a mega strop.

MintyCedric · 09/03/2021 17:14

Exactly. He is like a spoilt brat whining about this or that and blaming everyone else for everything possible.

On the upside, this kind of behaviour means people will probably stop questioning whether Charles is actually his father!

Have they ever stepped in when the press have been tearing one of them apart? In my memory - Diana, Sarah, Camilla, Beatrice and Eugenie (all female I note), even Margaret and there was some gossip about the queen mum wasn’t there?
Lampzade · 09/03/2021 17:14

@Janegrey333

I don’t agree at all I think that she would be immensely proud of Harry . However, I think that she would be heartbroken about the breakdown of the relationship between her sons, I do hope that they can reconcile
redspecial · 09/03/2021 17:15

@Liquorishtoffee but a giant rift between her precious boys, nah she wouldn't have let that happen let alone be slugged out in the press.

Lampzade · 09/03/2021 17:17

@Stratfordplace

Prince Charles took a private jet to a conference where he was talking about ..,,,,,CLIMATE CHANGE. Where was the uproar then
Liquorishtoffee · 09/03/2021 17:18

I agree - the impression I got (because I don’t know any of them) was that she absolutely loved her 2 boys and wanted to to be like best buddies and support for each other (which I suppose makes sense if you are royal - it must be hard to know who are genuine friends).

Stratfordplace · 09/03/2021 17:20

Lampzade exactly

twelly · 09/03/2021 17:22

This has got totally out of hand - we should stand back and look at the allegations made (which are unsubstantiated and took place in a private setting.) The royal family is being portrayed in such a negative light as if they are responsible for the end of humanity. The world is still going through a global pandemic , the RF has been supportive if all groups , the MH interview, their comments and subsequent media coverage which is what they wanted undermines all the good work towards improving race relations. I believe the RF should not respond publicly - and I would hazard a guess that not one of them would want any private conversation with M or H knowing that it could do easily end in the public domain . M and H have done nothing to improve any relations with anyone ,in that interview everyone was at fault other than themselves. The old adage " if you continually have problems with everyone you come across more than likely you are the problem,"

Saoirse7 · 09/03/2021 17:22

@DontReallyCareBut

I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.
Protocols when it suits them.

Andrew giving his interview last year to give ‘his side’ surely broke protocol?

carcarbinks · 09/03/2021 17:27

Why is it that we can have a prime minister who had made racist and homophobic comments in public but a hint of racism in the royals and everyone is horrified. No wonder he didn’t want to say anything about the interview!

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/03/2021 17:28

I believe she also wanted them to always be treated the same which maybe wasn't so wise when theirs future paths looked so different.

There's been a couple of royal reporters stating that the palace often pushed back, corrected reports etc, even things which later turned out to have been true. The family didn't speak personally but as pp says - they never do. Maybe they should have realised this was different due to the race element and stepped in.

Dave20 · 09/03/2021 17:30

Hold on!... didn’t Harry dress up as a nazi a few years ago? And didn’t he use the term paki when talking about an army friend too?
