Back to the tour of South Africa for a minute - TBH I don't mind about the cost of the tour. The issue was that it was overshadowed by Meghan's poor me interview as part of the documentary about it.

I understand that royal tours are financed by the Foreign Office as soft diplomacy so tax payers money was used as a platform for M&H to have a whinge. They were there to work FFS. It's like the equivalent of me being asked to speak at a conference about the organisation I work for and then getting up on the stage and slagging off my employer. It's really unprofessional!

"Sewer " wish we had an edit button!

Chatnotnet · 28/09/2020 20:38

Well said @NoFoxToGive what indeed did you say that was so bad? You didn't.

Quietlyloud · 28/09/2020 20:48

If you’re just going to make rules up as you go, why bother to link to the guidelines? It hardly clarifies the matter.

Yeah, they do this a lot. Especially over in the feminist section, was awful before they brought out extra guidelines for that section and even then you can try your best but they will find a reason to delete you and then not tell you that reason lol

derxa · 28/09/2020 21:00

Harry and Meghan are a pair of bores. If I were them I would enjoy my life to the full instead of lecturing the rest of us to death. Whenever they speak they make me feel depressed. They should count their blessings.
Health, wealth and a lovely child. Who could want anything more?

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 21:08

I've definitely seen outright racism on mumsnet, but can't recall it on the Meghan threads. Such comments would presumably be deleted, so no evidence.
There has definitely been 'dog whistle racism' on these threads though (which mumsnet have posted about), although the posters may not have been aware of this, or meant it entirely innocently
Examples along the line of she should wear her hair natural, it's messy/scruffy, she should move to Africa, her charity work doesn't count unless she moves to Africa, she should face off back home, comments about her nose, she's never had a black boyfriend (which is false), etc.
Some people see this as coded language, but again it may have been innocent

Doria - no one here knows Doria's full job history, qualifications, volunteering, experience, etc - so how would you know whether or not she would be suitable for a certain job?

SunbathingDragon · 28/09/2020 21:09

@NoFoxToGive

Which of the following guidelines did my last post break? I would like to know. Seriously.

No personal attacks
No posts that break the law, including hate speech of any kind
No trolling, misleading or deliberately inflammatory behaviour
No trollhunting
No spamming

I didn’t do any of these things.

If you’re just going to make rules up as you go, why bother to link to the guidelines? It hardly clarifies the matter.

You don’t need to do any of those things. Posts get zapped all the time and then some people will claim it’s because they were racist and say the deleted threads back that up.
SwordfishShashlik · 28/09/2020 21:12

It is Harry who has expressed his wish to live and work in Africa, which is why Meghan, as his wife, should accompany him whether she be black white red yellow pink orange or purple or green.

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 21:21

Even uncle gary couldn't be bought. The worst thing Uncle gary ever did was take cocaine in Ibiza and get fat and be papped in an unflattering white vest. But he never spoke to the media!
Gary has done several paid interviews, with private information revealed about the Middletons (but not negative). He's been filmed offering to get a reporter prostitutes, photographed urinating in public and was also photographed punching his wife in the face.

Kate's best press began when Meghan joined the family. They'll soon start on her again. That's what they do.

Oldbutstillgotit · 28/09/2020 21:24

I must have missed those interviews @ Royalinsider

He said that:
Pippa is a great girl who could easily earn £200k a year if she wasn't in the private eye and that the media is too harsh on her
He would buy the Kate, Pippa and James lots of presents
He gifted Carol money many times over the year
He bought Kate her first designer handbag
Kate and her siblings loved having water fights
That the Middletons didn't really watch much TV, even at Christmas
The Middletons would have a long walk on Christmas
Carol tried to encourage him to become a pilot or various other well paid jobs (he eventually found his own groove and sold his company for many millions)
Kate works hard/takes a while and effort to do things well but that Pippa is a natural
Kate went to Marlborough on the Middleton family trust fund but Pippa got a sport scholarship

And various things like that

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 21:33

Absolutely meaningless twaddle.

But they didn’t turn their backs on him or vilify him. Gary may not be the nicest guy out there and I have read some unsavoury stuff about him but the Middletons have obviously decided for good or bad he is their family no matter what. I find that refreshing and admirable if I’m being honest.
Noidea2114 · 28/09/2020 21:53

NoFoxToGive you write so eloquently I love it.
Please tell me that you are Kate, Pippa, Anne, Camilla or even the Queen.
Thank you.
I hope you are not banned.

I agree, but their family business wouldn't have been as successful without his financial help (just like James' company wouldn't have survived without financial help from Pippa's husband James Matthews and others).

Excellent point Blabla. Unlike HaM who clearly don’t believe that charity begins at home.

I think that by the time Kate was marrying William, the business was doing well without any further support from Gary. Many people would have still dropped a family member, regardless of any help or support they had previously been given by them. The Middletons have always come across as a close knit family and I don’t think there should be an assumption that Gary wasn’t ditched when he became an embarrassment purely on the basis that he had been useful to them.
