Lol @thefatladyscreams Grin

I was thinking about the wee story today. If I was, say, Zara Tindall or Gabriella Windsor (as was) and someone was writing a book about me, a) would I tell my friends that I’d pissed in the woods b) would I be incandescant if they told the author all this?

Answers: No. Yes.

SunbathingDragon · 29/09/2020 21:25

@Viviennemary

I'm sure I read ages ago that Meghan tried for an out of court settlement and they refused. Surely she can just withdraw all her accusations and the case would be over. Anyone know the legal implications. She would probably have to pay both sides costs. And it would be a huge climb down.
I saw earlier today that the current legal fees for both side is just over £3 million. A huge sum.

I’d opt for mortified over incandescent but, yep, answer is no, yes.
SwordfishShashlik · 29/09/2020 21:30

Incandescent with rage, as per Prince Charles over Ardentgate, not all glistening like Edward Cullen.

TeflonTits · 29/09/2020 21:31

If any of my friends told a writer, of a book about me that I had no input in, that I had pissed behind a tree, I would, quite frankly, be disowning them, and probably hiding their corpse under the patio. Or possibly flushing their remains down one of my 17 toilets.

But in seriousness, No, I would not be telling my friends, and yes, I absolutely would be spitting nails and incandescent, and fumming, and irate, and all those good mumsnet things.

SwordfishShashlik · 29/09/2020 21:32

£3million Shock. That’s a lot of money that could have gone to charity.

SwordfishShashlik · 29/09/2020 21:35

If my DH told my MIL that I’d pissed in the woods then I wouldn’t have a husband any more.

I knew what kind of incandescent you meant. I didn’t need the image of Edward Cullen in my head. Grin

It’s a huge amount for charity but I wonder how much more ANL have and will make from clicks/ads as a result. Even losing is a winner for the media.

Maireas · 29/09/2020 21:37

Speculation - was she hoping for an out of court settlement and they've called her bluff?

lakeswimmer · 29/09/2020 21:40

Why would you even bother to tell anyone you'd pissed behind a tree? Isn't that just what everyone does when they're in the countryside with no loo nearby? It doesn't make the pisser unusual or interesting Grin

EastonSarah · 29/09/2020 21:45

I'd pee behind a tree if I had to better than wetting yourself Sad

Absolutely but would you want the world knowing?
SwordfishShashlik · 29/09/2020 21:48

Sorry about the Twilight image sunbathingdragon Grin

I thought of MM whilst I too was caught short in the woods today. I’ll admit it to you but my nearest and dearest, my friends and my unofficial biographer will never know Blush

EastonSarah · 29/09/2020 21:53

Careful @SwordfishShashlik you know that the DM and others love using mumsnet posts 😂

Oldbutstillgotit · 29/09/2020 21:58

As far as I am aware , MM could drop the case however it is highly likely she would be liable for all expenses ( £3 Million ?)

OP posts:
TheChristmasPrincess · 29/09/2020 22:05

I cannot even think of the social repercussions of her dropping the case. She would lose all credibility and the press would eat her alive for it. I can't imagine the majority of the public would treat her favourably either. I think it would depend on whether she was bothered by what people think about her and judging by the fact that she took up this lawsuit in the first place, she clearly does.

Think she has backed herself up into a corner here unfortunately.

SwordfishShashlik · 29/09/2020 22:06

EastonSarah that would be WEEALLY* awful Grin

Would the £3m be cheaper than losing the case and having to pay damages to AN?

WinnieTheW0rm · 29/09/2020 22:08

It's more than 'highly likely' - it's beyond doubt that she wouid have to pay. She brought the case , and therefore caused the other party the time, effort and direct expense of defending itself.

If she, the complainant, withdraws, then she has to, cover the costs. And of course it will also be assumed that she felt she could no longer prove her case and somdid nit want to be tried -- so in effect a kind of victory to the defence.

She may well win on the rather dull, technicalites of copyright law; but I can't see how she can secure a good outcome, given the amount of extraneous other stuff about tabloids that has got horribly muddled in (and some of which has already been struck out)

Thanks for info on possible timings for her case to be tried

I can see how the 'bush' story could have come up in conversation with a friend... but I don't see a 'friend' deciding that was the story to share with a biographer.
There's also another issue with M claiming the biography was unauthorised. Is it worse if M briefed her unofficial media spokesperson ie Scobie - on highly personal details? Or is it worse if she shared indiscriminately with 'friends' (about William's stairs; when the Queen has her bath; the location of the tiara vault, etc, etc) who swiftly leaked to journalists? Her 'friends' are media savvy. I don't think they can pretend they accidentally leaked all that private information. And if you had friends who had leaked about a letter to People, would you still trust them with lots of personal information about the habits of your new 'family'?

PheasantPlucker1 · 29/09/2020 22:26

"Wee behind a tree" is quite normal in our family, we do a lot of long hikes.

Does that mean I'll never be invited into the tiara vault? Sad

SwordfishShashlik · 29/09/2020 22:35

Never in a million years pheasant. You would be electrocuted when the wee hit the sensors and the place would blow up. Can you imagine Kate, Liz and Cams wearing melted tiaras? The shame!

That payment from Netflix won't last for long, if they have to keep dishing out money on legal costs.

LaMarschallin · 30/09/2020 07:32

I just don't see why Harry would be "delightfully surprised" by Meghan "happily" weeing in the bush if she needed to.
He must have been aware by then that women pee/poo too - he was in the army: surely his life couldn't have been that sheltered?

I don't know whether we're supposed to think that women in his social circle are so toffee-nosd they have servants carrying comodes everywhere they go, just in case, so Meghan was so low-maintenance in comparison.
Or perhaps that Meghan seems such a goddess among ordinary woman that he was amazed she even has bodily functions.

Either way, it's an odd thing to have delighted/pleased him.

Makes poor Harry sound like the pee troll or something.
