'They are using their titles and royal status for influencing, publicity and money making.'

Yes and just like they only paid frogmore back once they'd cashed in at Netflix, they will ditch their Royal titles once they've squeezed every last opportunity out of them. Then they'll pretend it was a moral decision 🙄.

Oldbutstillgotit · 25/09/2020 12:32

@ lifestooshort123 it is being highlighted because they hi jacked the tour to complain about the RF and their own unhappiness.
Up till then , yes it was a fantastic tour.
Royal tours take months of organising and most are really successful ( W and K in Pakistan) however M and H’e African tour is best remembered for the self pity , made worse because they did so against a background of abject poverty .

Royalinsider · 25/09/2020 12:43

Surely we can agree that Harry probably didn’t even know what a General Election was.
What is this based on?

froggygoneacourting · 25/09/2020 12:44

Gosh, people are still banging on about Harry and Meghan telling people to vote? With all the scandal and uproar about today's headlines about the Queen, Andrew, and Will & Kate?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/09/2020 12:44

@SunbathingDragon the precise rules around Harry "keeping" his titles as a US citizen are beyond my knowledge. It's true the Constitution prevents noble titles ever being granted there and of course they're not formally recognised, but I'm not sure they could force him to give them up if they were only used as part of his "UK persona" if that makes sense?

TBH though it probably makes little difference in practice, since most of their appeal seems to lie in being part of a weird but fascinating institution which is always good for a headline or connection ... especially when they've already proved less than discreet over disclosures (see Justice Darby's comments)

Royalinsider · 25/09/2020 12:45

@Maireas

That Southern Africa trip cost £245k. The one where they spoke about their personal unhappiness.
They visited four countries on a multi day tour and Charles' shorter trip to a funeral in one country cost over £210K
lifestooshort123 · 25/09/2020 12:46

@Oldbutstillgotit
Yes, I agree, it was an unforgiveable way to behave. However, I didn't want the good that they seemed to achieve on the trip to be totally overshadowed by their final petulance - can't stand either of them tbh but I've got more of an open mind than those who won't have a word said against them. It's called seeing someone else's point of view 😊😊😊

Yes. Well expressed. I cannot imagine complaining about my life after just visiting people whose lives are incredibly difficult. It is shocking. I just don't get it.
Viviennemary · 25/09/2020 12:53

The thread is about H&M that's why people are banging on about it. If you want to bang on about Andrew there's thread on him too. I'll have a look. Haven't see latest headlines today.

Roussette · 25/09/2020 12:54

H&M have paid 'a considerable amount' into the Sovereign Grant as rent upfront for Frogmore.
That's good.
Can't do links but it's widely reported

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/09/2020 12:58

I don't suppose many of us did, but it doesn't take much intelligence to realise that, in royal reporting terms, the worthy bits were always going to be totally eclipsed by the whine-fest

And yet still they chose to do it ...

Viviennemary · 25/09/2020 13:00

They pay rent. Big deal. Most people pay rent on property they don't own.

Probably!
froggygoneacourting · 25/09/2020 13:01

Reading through the thread having been away most of yesterday afternoon/evening and just noticed the deletion message - thanks MNHQ for confirming that the Meghan-basher who was harassing me yesterday was lying about being a new poster, and was actually a PBP.

Cheers for MNHQ!

Roussette · 25/09/2020 13:03

Most people pay in advance do they? More than a month? I read it was years in advance, bit pointless putting anything good about them on this thread obviously

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/09/2020 13:13

The thing about Andrew seems to centre on him spending £16k of taxpayers' money to travel to Ireland to watch golf - though admittedly it's said to be before he "stepped down"

Loathsome as he is I'm not sure that's anything new though; after all he has history for tacking a fast in-and-out "royal visit" onto various golf trips, in order to bill us for the cost

Royalinsider · 25/09/2020 13:18

@Oldbutstillgotit

William’s Netflix proposal ? What was that ?
My uncle is part of the team that hears pitches at Netflix and his friend does the same at Amazon Prime TV.

They have previously said that William had pitched a mental health series and nature documentaries to both. They didn't take them on, so the BBC took his mental health idea and did a one off special (and then did another after it).

ITV showed a William nature related one recently, although it was filmed two years ago (I didn't see it, but in the trailer he was wearing the same shirt for all the activities - all filmed in one day?).

The Netflix project was being considered, but one thing was that William and his team never listened to the notes given.

It was prematurely announced:
www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7017035/amp/EDEN-CONFIDENTIAL-Prince-Williams-Netflix-takes-Prince-Harrys-Apple-TV-documentary.html

...But they didn't take it on.

LittleBearPad · 25/09/2020 13:36

TV programmes frequently have people wearing the same outfit throughout for continuity reasons so you can’t assume it was done in a day

Roussette · 25/09/2020 13:36

www.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-royals-idUSKCN26F3OH

Ahhhh can do a link now. They have fulfilled their obligation as far as Frogmore, commercial rate rent for a number of years

Ninjava · 25/09/2020 13:52

Thanks for the heads up about William’s nature documentary - I don’t normally watch ITV but will make an effort to find and watch that as it sounds interesting. (In contrast to the projects I’ve seen listed as part of H&M’s Netflix deal, which sound really quite tedious as far as I’m concerned!)

Oldbutstillgotit · 25/09/2020 13:59

@ Roussette thanks for the link .
I hope they are able to return soon and spend time there .

Blahblahblahallthetime · 25/09/2020 14:15

Hmm. Interesting reading

www.tatler.com/article/meghan-markle-november-2020-cover

Royalinsider · 25/09/2020 15:24

That's not really surprising @Blahblahblahallthetime - a Daily Mail or similar poll would yield the same or worse results.

It's a bit pathetic that Taltler have put Meghan on the cover for sales once again when they've got an exclusive interview with Melania Trump.

Noidea2114 · 25/09/2020 15:31

Blahblahblahallthetime the link from tatler says that mm wants to be president of the USA.
What I can't understand is how a 2 bit actress who has hardly any (compared to other candidates)money
thinks that she will have the means to stand for president. I can't see PC giving her money for this
claptrap idea.

Roussette · 25/09/2020 15:36

Total rumour I would think.
If I hear the words out of her mouth, I will willingly take that back. But it sounds like something to write about her, I just veryuch doubt it, but it won't stop ppl treating it as fact
