So you mean there are people who think “I’m going to support Biden. Wait a minute, HM said go out and vote. I don’t like their wokeness. I’ll vote trump instead. That will show them”. I mean, really???
Possibly yes. Biden seems to have reasonable appeal for white working class voters, older white voters etc. which is one reason why I'm hopeful he'll get in. But some of those voters could easily swing for Trump if they feel patronized. It's always going to be a drip-drip-drip effect, but everyone's going to have their "final straw" that turns them. It could be a video like this for some people.

I remember the BREXIT vote. There were quite a few Leave people who mentioned stuff like "annoying elitist celebrities telling us what to do". Eddie Izzard getting involved, that kind of thing. It didn't help.

Jaxsbum · 25/09/2020 09:47

@HeddaGarbled

If he had voted, he’d have voted Tory, just like the rest of his family would. I wonder how honest he is to Meghan about his real political views.
how do you know this? have you seen this written some where?
Roussette · 25/09/2020 09:50

I honestly don't think we can second guess what Harry might've voted if he were to have voted. I would have said definitely not Tory more like Green party, or LDs

IrmaFayLear · 25/09/2020 09:54

I just hate celebrities preaching at me.

I always think that the people who did drama at school/pursued acting dreams were, ahem, not the most academic people. There are of course a few exceptions (Shakespearean types who went to Oxford) but by and large actors are not great intellects but acquire delusions of grandeur, including telling lower mortals what to do.

derxa · 25/09/2020 10:00

I just hate celebrities preaching at me. Me too. It particularly annoyed me when 'celebrities' weighed in on the Scottish independence and I don't even support independence. Same with Brexit.

Oldbutstillgotit · 25/09/2020 10:04

@ derxa I was the same in 2014 when Sean Connery ( who I admire ) started telling us to vote for Independence from his home in the Bahamas!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/09/2020 10:05

**Does anyone know whether he would be able to have dual nationality or would he have to renounce his UK?

Yes, millions already live in the US with dual citizenship and there's no reason Harry couldn't do the same. There'd be no requirement for him to give up his UK status, though the tax situation could get complicated

Interestingly, while giving up UK citizenship may or may not be an issue, foregoing the US version certainly can be. Americans tend to view citizenship as a winning card in the game of life and regard those who renounce it as ungrateful - traitorous even - so once gone it's not so easy to get it back

HeddaGarbled · 25/09/2020 10:16

I’m basing my assumption (and yes, of course it is an assumption) on comments he’s made about Brexit and the military, his upbringing and his friendship group and girlfriends before he met Meghan.

IrmaFayLear · 25/09/2020 10:17

And don’t forget that fancy dress uniform Shock

Roussette · 25/09/2020 10:27

No, we won't forget it because it keeps getting brought up on here on a very regular basis. So don't worry about it being forgotten, that won't happen!

HeddaGarbled · 25/09/2020 10:42

The military thing is interesting. It was very important to him. But I can imagine Meghan being a pacifist. Is he edging away from Invictus?

On the other hand, revere of the military seems to be more universal across the political spectrum in the US than the U.K. (and Trump’s recent comments are certainly being highlighted by his opponents), so perhaps involvement with military organisations isn’t so ‘non-woke’ in the US as in the U.K.

I’m not sure he would have agreed with their stance on hunting...

Bit like people bringing up Prince Andrew then.

I can’t and won’t take life advice on someone who plays dress up and pretend for a living. Entertain me and then take your vast sums of money and go away. George Clooney is a prime example.
IrmaFayLear · 25/09/2020 10:51

green Party or LibDems!!! Chortle!!

Harry would have most likely voted the same way as his compatriots. He can change himself now, but he was what he was.

Roussette · 25/09/2020 10:52

Who knows...
Prince William was the one who took George grouse shooting. Whereas Harry has not been on the annual grouse hunt for 4 years now. Unlike William.

Bit like people bringing up Prince Andrew then

And like others bringing up all the other royals on a regular basis.

Roussette · 25/09/2020 10:53

Irma

We'll agree to differ on that then.

Jaxsbum · 25/09/2020 10:53

wow this thread is getting like Jackanory(shows her age) people just making stuff up.
No one know who Harry would vote for. No one know if M is a pacifist.

IrmaFayLear · 25/09/2020 10:57

Surely we can agree that Harry probably didn’t even know what a General Election was. If you can excuse his wearing the Nazi uniform As youthful naivety and being easily led, you can’t really argue that he was a deeply thoughtful and clued-up young man making well-considered political decisions.

Trut · 25/09/2020 11:08

“you can’t really argue that he was a deeply thoughtful and clued-up young man making well-considered political decisions”

I think that would be fair to say for most of them, PC, W and H. So why pay attention to any of them?

SunbathingDragon · 25/09/2020 11:13

Hello old 👋🏻 glad to see you back again today.

It’s lovely news for Eugenie and Jack.

Sorry puzzled I got distracted and didn’t type what I meant to ask - can he keep his U.K. citizenship (so joint nationality) and keep his titles as America typically don’t recognise them. Edward became a duke after he abdicated but from what I understand, he primarily lived in France so I don’t think we have a precedent to look back on.

I don’t really have such an issue with Harry keeping the Duke of Sussex title. It’s the HRH and remaining sixth in line to a throne when he has effectively resigned from the company. Edward is a good example of this as he abdicated, became a duke and was no longer HRH or had any further claim to the throne.

lifestooshort123 · 25/09/2020 11:24

It is unfair of the press to headline the cost of their trip to South Africa - it looked as though they did a good job and were well received. As far as how would Harry have voted in the UK - isn't speculation frowned upon on MN? As to taking American citizenship, my understanding is that he could retain his titles but being a US citizen would be seen as a more important honour - dare I say it would be top trumps.

I think it's possible a person why thinks I won t bother voting might well now vote for Trump. They were entirely in the wrong making any public comment about the election. They are using their titles and royal status for influencing, publicity and money making.

Roussette · 25/09/2020 11:33

You've twisted everything I said to fit your narrative. Goodness, you'd fight with your shadow. grin Must be exhausting

Oh stop being so silly. I have twisted nothing. I just turned your words back on you which you didn't like.

Not exhausted. Quite chilled thanks Grin
